Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone it’s best to make sure that the phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then download and install it first.

To connect to a hidden Wi-Fi network you will need to manually add this network to your phone.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  • Go to Settings – Connections – Wi-Fi.
  • Make sure the Wi-Fi switch (upper-right) is turned on.
  • Tap Add network
  • From the Network name field, enter the appropriate name.
  • From the Security field, tap the Dropdown menu icon then tap the appropriate security option: None, WEP, WPA/WPA2/FT PSK, 802.1x EAP
  • From the Password field, enter the appropriate password.
  • Ensure additional settings (e.g., EAP method, CA certificate, etc.) are configured appropriately (if applicable) then tap SAVE

If the phone can does not connect automatically to this hidden network the next time then proceed with the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

Reboot the router

Just like any other electronic device a restart will refresh the software of the router and will usually fix minor issues.

Update the router firmware version

It’s best to make sure that your router is using the latest firmware version as this will usually have fewer bugs than the older firmware. You will have to refer to the router manual on how to update this device.

Make sure the router settings are correct

There are cases when the problem is caused by a setting in the router. Refer to the router manual on how to properly set the device. Things to check are the power output, firewall, and other security settings.

Factory reset the router

If you have administrative access to the router then try performing a factory reset on the device. Refer the router manual on how to perform this step.

Once you have eliminated the router as a possible cause to the problem it’s time to troubleshoot the phone.

Reset the network settings

By performing this step you are wiping  the network configuration including saved Wi-Fi networks of the phone.

  • From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  • Tap Settings – General Management – Reset – Reset network settings.
  • Tap Reset settings.
  • If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
  • Tap Reset settings. Once complete a confirmation window will appear.

Once this is done check if the issue still occurs.

Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode

A good way to check if an app you downloaded is causing this problem is by starting the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone is started in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run making it easier to determine if an app you downloaded is the culprit.

  • With the phone turned on press the turned on start pressing the Power button.
  • If the menu pops up tap Power off and tap the option to open Safe mode.
  • Wait for a few moments.
  • The device is now booted in Safe Mode

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then you should find out what app is causing the problem then uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition

The phone stores temporary system data in a special partition it the storage which helps speed up certain apps. This temporary data however can become corrupted and can cause certain issues to occur on the device. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

  • Turn off your device.
  • Now Press and hold the Bixby, Volume Up and Power buttons for few secs.
  • After you see the Android Logo is displayed, release the Power and Bixby button, but keep holding the Volume Up button until the Recovery Mode screen shows up
  • Now you can see the Android System Recovery Menu option.
  • Use volume keys to highlight wipe cache partition and use the power button to select it
  • Confirm by selecting yes option

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data as it will be erased in the process.

  • Go to  settings of your phone.
  • Now Scroll down and select General management option
  • Tap on Reset option
  • Choose  Factory data reset
  • Select the option ‘Erase everything’ and then wait till your device gets rebooted with the factory settings.

Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs.
