How To Fix Samsung Galaxy A6 Black Screen After Drop

Problem: Hi, I found your site after searching for ‘Samsung black screen after drop’ and read your article. I am still receiving calls and messages (sound/vibrate and notification light function).  Also at first when I connected to my PC I was able to access the phone folder, so I copied all the files to another location. Since then, I’ve tried doing a hard reset, but I can’t tell if the phone is on or off. I’ve tried doing a factory reset using the hardware keys (power, volume up and home), but the screen stays blank. I installed smart switch and tried to connect but although my phone makes a sound or vibrates when I plug it in, smart switch continues to wait for the phone to connect.  Also the phone is no longer visible in my PC devices. Meanwhile, the volume keys are adjusting the volume. Can I try anything else I can try? Or do I have to take it in to see if it can get repaired? Thanks for your help.

Solution: When you drop your phone and the display becomes black after yet the device still gets notifications then chances are the display assembly has been damaged. When this happens a trip to the service center is required. You can however perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below which might fix the problem.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons for 12 seconds.
  • Use the Volume down button to scroll to the Power Down option.
  • Press the Home key to select.

Check if the issue gets fixed.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

There are cases when an app you downloaded can cause the screen to become black. To check if this is the case then you should start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the phone off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When Samsung appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.

  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode on the device.
  • Uninstall apps that are causing a problem.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

There’s a possibility that the problem can be caused by a corrupt system cached data. To eliminate this possibility then you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. Take note that if you perform this then your phone data will be deleted in the process.

  • Make sure that the phone is off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty display assembly. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
