How To Fix LG V40 ThinQ Not Sending MMS

Problem: My phone wont send MMS messages stating when I try to send it states I’m not connected to a mobile network and connect to a wifi network and try again. The issue is I am connected to a wifi network and am using other apps. Occasionally I can close the MMS app and turn wifi on and off then it’ll send. I’m not sure what I need to change in my setting. I’ve cleared my cache and reset my network settings. I still have yet to take it to the store since I don’t use MMS that often.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this device it’s best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version.

The troubleshooting steps listed below are recommended for this particular problem.

Connect your phone to a mobile network

Most networks require the phone to use a mobile network to send and receive an MMS. It is therefore important to check that you have an active mobile data subscription. You should also make sure that the mobile data switch of the phone is on and that it is getting a strong LTE signal.

Clear the cache and data of the messaging app

Sometimes the data stored in the messaging app can get corrupted and can cause messaging problems. To make sure that this isn’t what’s causing the problem you will have to clear the cache and data of the messaging app.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab > Apps & notifications.
  • Tap App info.
  • Tap the filter to select the following: All, Enabled, Disabled
  • Tap the desired app, then Storage.
  • Tap Clear cache or Clear Data then YES

Check the phone APN settings

Make sure that your phone is using the correct APN settings as thee settings are required to make your phone connect to the mobile data network.

The APN settings of your device allows it to connect to the mobile data network and allows for the sending and receiving of MMS. Make sure that you have the correct settings installed in the phone.

To access the APN settings

  • From the Home screen, Settings.
  • Tap the ‘Networks’ tab.
  • Tap More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.

Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode

Sometimes an app you downloaded can cause this problem. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  • In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  • When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  • After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.

If you are able to send and receive an MMS in this mode then the problem could be  caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition

Your phone will store temporary data in a dedicated partition in its storage space which helps the device run apps smoothly. If this data gets corrupted then issues can occur on the device. To make sure that this is not what’s causing the problem you will have to clear the cache partition of the phone.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Storage > Internal storage.
  • Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
  • Tap Free up space.
  • Tap Temporary files & raw files.

One last troubleshooting step you can perform if the phone is still unable to send an MMS is a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data so it’s best to backup the phone data before proceeding.

  • Back up data on the internal memory before performing a factory reset.
  • From the Home screen, Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Restart & reset.
  • Tap Factory data reset.

  • When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  • When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Press the Power button to reset the device

Once the reset is complete you should setup the APN settings again.
