How To Fix LG Prime 2 Won’t Connect To Wi-Fi Issue

It’s always a good idea to make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version before doing any of the troubleshooting steps listed below. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first. You can use the LG PC Suite software to get the update using your computer. This will at least minimize the possibility of the problem being caused by an outdated software version.

Turn on the phone Wi-Fi switch

Your phone has a Wi-Fi switch found in its settings which needs to be turned on before it can connect to a Wi-Fi network. Try to check if this switch has been turned on.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘Networks’ tab.
  • Tap the Wi-Fi switch to the ON setting.

Check if this is a router problem

There are cases when the problem can be caused by an issue with the router and not with your phone. Can other devices connect to the Wi-Fi network? Have you tried checking the router settings if it has blocked your phone from connecting? The quickest way to check if this is a router related problem is to connect your phone to a different Wi-Fi network. In case your phone works on a different Wi-Fi network then this is most likely a router problem.

Perform a soft reset

This action will refresh the phone software which will usually remove any corrupted cached data that could be causing the problem. To perform this procedure just press and hold the Power button and Volume Down until the device powers off, approximately 8 seconds, then release. Once this is done try connecting to the Wi-Fi network.

Reset the phone network settings

This step is usually done whenever the phone is having a problem connecting to a data network.  The following changes will occur on your phone.

  • Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
  • Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
  • Background data sync settings will be turned on.
  • Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
  • Network selection mode will be set to automatic.

To reset the network settings of your device:

  • From the Home screen, Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Restart & reset > Network settings reset > RESET SETTINGS > Reset Settings.
  • A ‘Network settings have been reset’ message briefly flashes to indicate the reset is complete.

Try connecting to the Wi-Fi network.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

There are cases when an app you downloaded will cause issues on the phone when it is installed. To check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  • In the options menu that displays, tap Power off and restart.
  • The device will restart and the Safe mode overlay will no longer show on the screen.

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

There are cases when the cached data stored in the dedicated partition of the phone can become corrupted. When this happens this will usually cause certain issues to occur on the phone. To eliminate the possibility that this is what’s causing the problem you will have to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Storage > Internal storage.
  • Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
  • Tap Free up space.
  • Tap Temporary files & raw files.
  • Select the following options: Cached data, Clip tray temporary files, Raw files from camera.
  • Tap Delete > DELETE

Perform a factory reset

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then your last option is to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset as this will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  • When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  • When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Press the Power button to reset the device.

Once the reset is complete setup your phone again then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
