How To Fix Huawei P20 Pro Screen Flickering Issue

Problem: Hey Good day my P20 Pro screen flickers very badly when I increase the brightness of the screen, when I lower the brightness it appears to work fine.. I’ve turn on the phone in safe mode as well as wipe the cage partition and factory reset.. can you please help me out concerning my situation with my phone. To top it all off, it’s only been one (1)month and seven days since I bought the device and advice would be greatly appreciated.. thank you. When I turned on the phone in safe mode the flickering continued, when I wiped the cache partition the flickering still continued and even when I factory reset the device the flickering continued. I must say I downloaded some apps after, so I’m going to factory reset the device once more and observe it for a while before I download any apps ..

Solution: There are several factors that can cause the screen of the phone to flicker however it can be boiled down to two culprits. It could either be caused by a faulty hardware component

which in this case is most likely the display assembly or it could be caused by a software glitch.

What we will be doing right now is to eliminate any software related factors that can be causing the problem.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

The first thing you will want to do is to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem. To do this you will have to start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn off the phone
  • Turn on the phone
  • As soon as you see the Huawei logo on the screen start clicking on the volume DOWN button repeatedly
  • When the phone turns on you will see the Safe Mode on the bottom left

If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

There are also instances when corrupt cached data can cause the screen to flicker. To eliminate this possibility you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone.

  • First turn off the phone
  • Turn the phone on again while holding down the following key combination: Power Button Volume up Button
  • Hold down the buttons until the Huawei logo disappears from the display and the screen turns black.
  • You can now release the buttons.
  • This will now display the boot menu after a moment.
  • Go to the entry “Wipe Cache Partition” with the volume keys then select it using the power key
  • Reboot the phone

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition and eliminates any possible software glitches that could be causing the problem. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this step.

  • Go to the Start screen.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll down then tap System.
  • Tap Reset
  • Tap Factory data reset.
  • Tap RESET PHONE.
  • Tap RESET PHONE.
  • All data and settings saved on the Huawei P20 Pro will be deleted. The Huawei P20 Pro will automatically reset and reboot.
  • The Huawei P20 Pro has been reset.

If this does not fix the problem then this might already be caused by a faulty display assembly. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
