How to Fix Galaxy S26 Ultra Gallery Face Recognition Not Working

Several Galaxy S26 Ultra users report that the Gallery app’s face recognition feature is not grouping photos correctly. The following fixes address common Gallery issues.

Fix #1: Clear Gallery App Cache

Corrupted cache data can prevent face recognition and other Gallery features from working properly on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Gallery.
  2. Tap Storage.
  3. Tap Clear Cache.

Fix #2: Re-Enable Face Grouping

  1. Open the Gallery app.
  2. Go to the People tab.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu and go to Settings.
  4. Turn off Face Grouping, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on.

Fix #3: Force Restart

  1. Press and hold Volume Down + Power for about 10 seconds.

Fix #4: Check for Software Updates

  1. Go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.

Fix #5: Clear Gallery Data

This resets the Gallery app completely. Your photos are not deleted — only the app’s settings and cached thumbnails are cleared.

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Gallery > Storage.
  2. Tap Clear Data.
  3. Reopen Gallery and allow it to re-scan your photos.
