How to Fix a Slow Galaxy S2

This is a message sent to us recently via The Droid Guy Mailbag:

“Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100. I just updated it to 4.1.2. I always keep cleaning its cache for better performance but it keeps draining the battery very fast and heats up during charging. Sometimes, it gets very slow despite cleaning cache regularly. Please help me out.”

Remedies to a Slow Galaxy S2

According to the support page of Sprint, here are some ways to enhance the performance of your device and improve its battery life:

1. Safely detach its SD card.

2. Do a Soft Reset. That means, you should turn your phone off safely. Remove its battery. Then, after 30 seconds, reinsert the battery and start it up normally.

3. Stop the apps running in the background.

I would like to add the following solutions as well:

4. Perform a Factory Reset after backing up your data. This will fix the corrupted system files in your phone that are causing the lag and battery drain.

5. Wipe the cache partition if Factory Reset doesn’t cut it. This will delete all temporary app files that may be causing trouble.

If the solutions won’t work, perhaps the problem is the apps that you have been installing in your device. Nowadays, most apps have been optimized to run in latest Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, HTC One, Nexus 7 and others. Games now offer high-end graphics and they eat up too much memory. Some example of RAM-hungry games are Dead Trigger 2, Asphalt 8: Airborne and others.

If you are constantly playing them in your device, then, it’s no surprise that you are really slowing it down and draining up its battery fast. So, if you want to have a faster phone and a longer battery life, only install the apps that you really need and keep yourself away from playing games that eat up too much memory in your processor.
