How to fix a Samsung Galaxy A40 with screen flickering issue

What to do with Galaxy A40 that has screen flickering issue

In this post, I will guide you in troubleshooting your Samsung Galaxy A40 that has a flickering screen. We will consider all possibilities and rule them out one after another until we can determine what the problem is and hopefully be able to fix it. Here’s what you need to do: 

First solution: Force restart your phone

It is possible that this problem is caused by a minor glitch in the system or even some minor issues with the apps. Thus, the first thing that you have to do is the forced restart, otherwise known as the simulated battery removal. This will refresh the phone’s memory and reload everything. If this is just a minor issue with the firmware, then this should be enough to fix it. Here’s how it’s done:

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet. 
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well. 
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A40 logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has finished the reboot, try to see if the screen flickering is gone. If it remained then try the next procedure.

Second solution: Run your phone in safe mode

Doing this will disable all third party applications. It is important to do this because there are applications that can cause screen flickering. You need to rule this possibility out before you move on to other solutions. So follow these steps to restart your phone in safe mode: 

1. Press and hold the Power key until options show. 
2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode. 
3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen. 

While your phone is in this mode, try to see if the screen flickering is gone because if it is, then this is what you have to do next: 

1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode. 
2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the screen started to flicker.
3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
5. Scroll to and then tap Apps. 
6. Find and tap suspected app. 
7. Tap Storage. 
8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall. 
10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone. 

However, if your phone still has the screen flickering issue even in safe mode, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Reset all the settings on your phone

Just to be thorough in our troubleshooting, before we rule out the possibility that the issue is with the firmware, what you have to do first is to reset all the settings in your phone. There’s always a chance that this problem is caused by some settings. But don’t worry, this procedure is safe for your files and data, and pretty effective when it comes to minor system issues. Here’s how it’s done: 

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
3. Scroll to and tap General management. 
4. Touch Reset. 
5. Tap Reset settings. 
6. Tap the Reset settings button. 
7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern. 
8. Finally, tap Reset.

When the reset is complete and your phone has successfully rebooted, try to see if the screen flickering is gone. If it stayed, then move one to the next solution. 

Fourth solution: Delete the old system cache to fix screen flickering

It is also possible that the problem was caused by some corrupt system cache files. These small files help make your phone run smoothly but when they get corrupted, various issues may occur. To rule this out, you have to wipe the cache partition. Here’s how you do that: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
3. When the Galaxy A40 logo shows, release the keys.
4. Your Galaxy A40 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

When the phone has finished deleting the old cache and the screen flickering occurs, then the next solution should be done.

Fifth solution: Master reset your Galaxy A40

At this point, a reset is necessary if the screen flickering remained. However, prior to that, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data because they will all be deleted. After the backup, remove your Google account so that you won’t be locked out. When everything is ready, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
3. When the Galaxy A40 logo shows, release the keys.
4. Your Galaxy A40 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
