How to Clear Cache on LG TV

If your LG TV is running slow, apps are freezing, or content is not loading properly, clearing the cache can often fix these problems. The methods below cover how to clear app cache, browser cache, and system-level cache on LG webOS TVs.

Method 1: Clear Cache for Individual Apps

App cache builds up over time and can cause individual apps to lag, crash, or display outdated content. Clearing it forces the app to reload fresh data.

  1. Press the Home button on your LG remote.
  2. Open Settings by selecting the gear icon.
  3. Go to Apps.
  4. Find the app you want to clear cache for and select it.
  5. Choose Clear Cache if the option is available.
  6. Confirm the action and wait for it to finish.
  7. Reopen the app to check if it runs better.

Not all apps on webOS show a clear cache option. If you do not see it, try the next method instead.

Method 2: Uninstall and Reinstall the App

If an app does not have a built-in clear cache option, removing and reinstalling it is the most reliable way to clear all of its cached data on an LG webOS TV.

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Scroll to the app you want to remove in the app launcher bar.
  3. Press and hold the OK button or press the Up arrow on the app icon until a menu appears.
  4. Select Uninstall or Remove.
  5. Confirm the removal.
  6. Open the LG Content Store from the home screen.
  7. Search for the same app and reinstall it.
  8. Launch the app again and sign in if needed.

Method 3: Clear the LG Web Browser Cache

The built-in web browser on LG webOS TVs stores browsing data, cookies, and cached pages that can slow it down or cause loading errors over time.

  1. Open the Web Browser app from the home screen.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu or Settings icon in the top right corner of the browser.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Scroll down and find Clear Browsing Data or Clear Cache.
  5. Select the option to clear cache, cookies, and browsing history.
  6. Confirm the action.
  7. Close and reopen the browser to check if performance improves.

Method 4: Clear System Cache by Power Cycling the TV

LG webOS TVs do not have a dedicated system cache clearing option in the settings menu. The most effective way to flush the system cache is a full power cycle, which forces the TV to clear temporary data stored in memory.

  1. Turn off the TV using the remote.
  2. Unplug the TV from the power outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. While the TV is unplugged, press and hold the power button on the TV itself for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
  5. Plug the TV back in.
  6. Turn it on and check if apps and system performance have improved.

Method 5: Clear All App Data Using the Storage Manager

Some LG webOS TV models include a storage or memory manager that lets you see how much space apps are using and clear stored data in bulk.

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to General or Support depending on your webOS version.
  4. Look for Storage or Device Self Care or Memory Optimizer.
  5. Select it to view app storage usage.
  6. Clear data for apps that are using the most space.
  7. Restart the TV after clearing the data.

Method 6: Update webOS Software

Outdated system software can cause cache-related problems, slow performance, and app compatibility issues. Updating webOS can resolve these and also clear some temporary system files in the process.

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to All Settings.
  4. Select Support or General.
  5. Choose Software Update or About This TV.
  6. Select Check for Updates.
  7. If an update is available, download and install it.
  8. The TV will restart automatically after the update finishes.

Method 7: Reset the TV to Factory Settings

If clearing cache through other methods did not help and the TV is still slow or apps keep crashing, a factory reset will wipe all cached data, app data, and custom settings. This is the most thorough option but it will erase all your preferences and installed apps.

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to All Settings.
  4. Select General or Support.
  5. Choose Reset to Initial Settings or Factory Reset.
  6. Enter your TV PIN if prompted. The default PIN is usually 0000.
  7. Confirm the reset.
  8. The TV will restart and go through the initial setup process.
  9. Reinstall your apps and sign back into your accounts after the reset is complete.
