How to Check Computer Specs On Windows 10

Knowing how to check the specifications on your computer is very useful especially if you want to upgrade and or want to know the system requirements for a particular program that you want to install. At times, its safe to know how much RAM your computer has, and what kind of motherboard, Graphics processing unit and CPU you are using and how much memory your computer has. In here, we will show you the different ways on how to check your computer specs on your Windows 10 computer.

There are a number of ways you can use to check your computer specs on your Windows 10 PC, the details and the type of hardware specs that is present. Basically, using Settings applications is the simplest method and the most widely used method. However, if you need additional information, you can also use the System, the Command prompt, DxDiag, or Device Manager.

Method 1: Check computer specs using Settings

This is the easiest way to get all the needed information of your computer that basically provides you will the overview of your system.

  1. Press <strong>Windows Key or Start Button</strong> located at your lower left.

Method 2: Check computer specs using System information

For a more detailed insights of the internet components on your computer as well as other components such as Multimedia, Input, Network, Ports, or Storage and others, you can use System Information.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Press Windows key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialog box. Alternatively, you can also type “System Information” at the search bar located at the lower left.
  2. At RUN dialog box, type “msinfo32” and press Enter or click OK to open System Info.
  3. As you can see on the left side bar, the Summary Category of the Entire system on your computer will be displayed. The Subcategory includes Hardware Resources, Components and Software Environment.
  4. If you want to know more of the other components, you can simply click on each of the subcategories under System summary category.

How to save Computer specs on System information result:

If you want a copy of computer specs that appears on the System information you need for future reference, you can save the specs. Follow the steps below:

  1. At computer specs results in System information, select the category that you want to save. Note: if you choose System Summary category, only the details on the System summary will only be stored and not the entire categories.
  2. Click File tab located at the upper left.
  3. Click Export from the drop down menu.
  4. Navigate to the directory where you want to save the file as text file and type the file name of the file then click Save.

Method 3: Check specs using Command Prompt

Command Prompt is a very useful tool in most Windows 10 PC. It is used to execute commands. The commands are used to perform administrative functions, troubleshoot issues on your computer and there are also commands that can be used to provide a more precise specifications on your Windows 10 PC

Follow the steps below:

  1. At the search bar located at the bottom left, type “Command Prompt”
  2. Right click “Command Prompt” search results and click Run as Administrator from the drop down menu.
  3. At Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter: “systeminfo.exe”. Command prompt will now load the information.
  4. Necessary information will then be displayed such as the name, version number, build number Manufacturer of your OS, Processor other details.

Method 4: Check specifications using Dxdiag Run command

The DirectX diagnostic tool does not only provide information specs of your computer, but also shows information on the sound and display properties. This can all be found on the same window as the system specifications. This method is useful if you need to know the version of your DirectX for display related issues since video settings will also be displayed.

Follow the steps below:

  1. At the search bar located at the bottom left, type “Dxdiag”
  2. Double on DxDiag search results to open DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
  3. Inside DirectX Diagnostic Tool window, there are different tabs at the top screen. Click on each of the tab to get the needed information you need to know. The OS, System Manufacturer and System Model, Physical Memory, Processor, Memory, DirectX version are among the specifications that will be displayed.
  4. To Save All information on the screen, click on the option Save All information at the bottom right corner.
  5. Locate the location where you want to save the file.
  6. Create a file name and then click Save

Method 5: Check specifications using Device Manager

The Device manager on your Windows 10 PC is used to view and control the hardware that are installed and or attached. A list of hardware i will be displayed. On Device manager, it provides a detailed information of a specific device that you are looking for. This method is useful that you are trying to troubleshoot hardware related issues on Windows 10 and you need a specific information of the hardware.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Press Windows key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialog box at the bottom left.
  2. At RUN dialog box, type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter or click OK to open Device Manager.
  3. A list of hardware grouped into categories will be displayed.
  4. Double click on each of the specific category on the screen of the hardware information that you need to know the information of to expand it.
  5. Right click on the hardware and then select Properties from the drop down menu.
