Google Pixel 8 Series Rumored to Include Desktop Mode Feature
With the Google Pixel 8 series scheduled to release in October, leaked features and specifications have been appearing online. One intriguing piece of information suggests that Google’s upcoming flagship smartphones might support a desktop mode feature. This could offer users a more versatile experience similar to Samsung DeX technology.
New Leaks Surface About Google Pixel 8 & Pixel 8 Pro
A source within Google revealed that the company’s next-generation smartphones – the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro – will support USB DisplayPort Alternative Mode. If true, this would enable the devices to function as desktop replacements using their USB-C ports, mirrored displays, keyboard, and mouse support.
Notably, Samsung had introduced DeX technology in 2017, enabling users to experience a desktop mode with just a USB-C cable or HDMI adapter.
Key Specifications of Google Pixel 8 Series
Leaked specifications indicate significant improvements in display and camera departments for the upcoming series. The Google Pixel 8 Pro is expected to feature a 6.7-inch Samsung OLED flat display with up to a 120Hz refresh rate, 2992 x 1344 pixels resolution, 1600 nits brightness, and 490 pixels per inch (PPI).
Meanwhile, the basic Google Pixel 8 model is reported to come with a 6.17-inch FHD+ Samsung & BOE OLED flat display offering up to a 120Hz refresh rate, along with 1400 nits brightness and 417 PPI.
Additionally, the cameras will see upgrades as well. The Google Pixel 8 is rumored to have a 50MP GN2 main camera on the back panel accompanied by a 12MP IMX386 ultrawide sensor. The front-facing camera will sport a resolution of approximately10.8MP with its Sony-made J1 sensor.
Conversely, the Google Pixel 8 Pro will have a camera setup comprising of a 50MP GN2 main camera, a 64MP IMX787 ultrawide sensor, and a 48MP GM5 5x zoom camera. The front-facing camera will also house the same Sony J1 unit found on the regular Pixel 8.
Powering the upcoming devices is the new Google Tensor G3 mobile processor, and they will run on Android 14 out of the box.
