Does Startpage Search Use Bing Search Results
In a significant development, Startpage, a privacy-focused search engine, has undergone changes in its search result sourcing, which is crucial for understanding its current functionality.
Previously, Startpage was known for serving search results based on Google's index. However, recent updates have shifted this paradigm. As of the latest changes, Startpage no longer relies solely on Google for its search results. Instead, it has incorporated Microsoft's Bing as a primary source for its search queries.
Startpage now acts as an intermediary between users and both Google and Bing. When a user submits a search query, Startpage anonymously forwards the request to these search engines and then returns the results to the user, ensuring that neither Google nor Bing can identify the individual making the search. This approach maintains user privacy, a core principle of Startpage's service.
The integration of Bing into Startpage's search results is part of a broader effort to enhance the search experience. Startpage has developed unique solutions in collaboration with Microsoft Bing, which include richer search results with embedded news, images, and videos relevant to the user's query. These enhanced search results aim to provide faster access to more information without compromising user privacy.
Users can refine their search results on Startpage by utilizing several settings. For instance, the "Region filter" allows users to receive results from a specific region and in the corresponding language. The "Search language" setting specifies the language of the search query, which can be used in conjunction with the region filter for more relevant results. Additionally, users can adjust the "Safe Search" settings to receive more search results by selecting the least strict option.
Startpage's new features also include interactive map results for local searches, which are private and 100% opt-in. This means users have control over whether their location is used for a single search or for all searches. The enhanced search results experience is powered by partnerships with various companies, including MapQuest, HERE Technologies, Priceline, Tomorrow.io, Search Expander, and Microsoft Bing, all of which adhere to Startpage's strict privacy standards.
In terms of search quality, while Bing provides good results, they may not be as intuitive as those from Google. However, the inclusion of Bing results has improved the overall search experience on Startpage, offering users a broader range of sources and better search suggestions, especially on mobile devices.
Overall, Startpage's transition to include Bing search results marks a significant step in its evolution as a privacy-focused search engine, offering users a more comprehensive and private search experience.
ahhhhhhhhhnnnnnnnd Startpage just f**ked themselves into irrelevance. Their search results are worthless now – near-COMPLETELY ignoring the search terms used (like a ten-pints drunk person vaguely able to comprehend speech, at best). If they were that damned broke, why not put a ‘Donate here’ link and see if anyone would provide enough funding to improve matters, longer-term? I can’t imagine they would, but I personally would, the design and service has been second-to-none. Except, here’s the thing: IF I donate, then my real identity gets associated with the search engine I use (which is a minority one). This makes it exponentially easier to track my habits. KYC is nothing to do with avoiding funding terrorism and everything to do with tracing who uses what services and products, in order to control and manipulate them.
If they had brought all these removals of freedom and civil liberties in, on the month after 9/11/2001, people would have rebelled HARD. So instead, they brough them in slowly, slowly.
But make no mistake, this is a predictable, planned agenda of control. We dishonor those who died on 9/11 and in any conflict for our freedoms, if we have so little self-esteem collectively, that we tolerate this undemocratic abuse of human rights.
Bitcoin is still too hard to use, and try buying it with untraceable cash. Notice anything? Yeah, they made that illegal. Why do you think, they cannot even fill in potholes in the roads, can barely run a government and democracy – but they prioritise removal of human right to privacy and get THAT of all things achieved swiftly?
The circumstantial evidence is HUGE for this agenda, even if people lie and suck the copium HARD by claiming people are conspiracy theorists and tinfoil hat wearers. We are also OFTEN CORRECT IN OUR PREDICTIONS. It doesn’t take a genius (personally I have TBI but can still work it out because, crucially, I simply give a f**k. Try it).
