Both my original Motorola Defy and Defy Mini had removable batteries and were fully water proof so that’s not a valid reason for excluding a removable battery.
The entire NOTE 7 debacle could have been eliminated by a user replaceable battery…
I second what Alan said – I would LOVE a V20 with a pen. I have a Note 4, I love my stylus, I use it countless times a day (and MAYbe mainly for games – so what!?). The Note 4 is the best phone I’ve ever had, for so many reasons. I’ve abused it for over 2 years now, it’s held up like the beautiful champ it is.
I’m so scared of the Note 8…I want to keep my stylus badly, but at the cost of losing a replaceable battery AND my mircoSD slot? I just really don’t think that’s a smart move…I guess I’ll have to buy a separate stylus and carry it around like a dweeb. ugh.
I have a disturbing feeling that the Note 8 will be another Toy Smartphone with two pieces of glass to break. I have a Note 4 and an Active 4 (which has a simple system for sealing the back the only difficult part to seal is the Micro USB, the back is as easy as sealing a jam jar, the manufacturers must think that we are stupid.
I have noticed that both the Note 4 and LG V20 have increased in price by $200, possibly as customers fear that the Note 8 and the LG V30 will be Smartphones for casual users and not adventurous, travelling, flexible lifestyle, creative people.
I would love a V20 with a pen.

Accprding to the same source, it’s battery is really removable.
Non-removable battery takes some (very important!) functionality from the phone.
What it gives? Making it “slim”? “Waterproof”? More “portable”?
What is the catch? It will hit the garbage pile as soon as it’s battery dies!
So, to get a new battery, you have to buy a new phone.
In other words, they want to sell you a replacement battery for the price of a new phone!
I can make a phone with all those “selling points”: it will pr “paper thin” (literally!) “feather light”, “water proof” etc. On top of that, it will have a “beautiful” antique outlook!
How to create this miracle? It is very simple: make a picture of your century-old phone, print it on a modern high-quality printer and laminate it to make it water-proof! Easy work for a DIY’er!
However, there will be a very little catch: it is not going to be functional…
To your point, non-replaceable battery makes phone unusable in a couple years, which plays exactly into the hands of the manufacturers, they need these phones to be obsolete in a few years to sell more phones. just great right?

I think it’s absurd that “the market” wants “slim” and “waterproof” phones. Almost every “slim” phone gets put immediately into a protective case that destroys the “slim” aspect. I don’t know anyone who wants a “waterproof” phone. Nobody takes a shower with their phone.
Making batteries non-replaceable is a way to GUARANTEE that a phone will be close to unusable in 18 months. Sure wish somebody would break the trend.
