5 Best Bluetooth Headphones for TVs

Watching TV is fun relaxing until your neighbors come knocking on your front door complaining they can’t sleep. And god forbid you have a small baby or a spouse who works opposite shifts as you. Unless you have ears like a bat and can keep the volume low and still understand what’s going on, you can probably greatly benefit from a pair of Bluetooth headphones for TVs.

What If My TV Doesn’t Have Bluetooth?

Most modern TVs come with Bluetooth functionality, but what if your doesn’t? In that case, you can purchase an affordable Bluetooth transmitter, such as the Mpow Bluetooth Receiver & Transmitter.

This dual-purpose device can add Bluetooth functionality to any old TV with a 3.5 mm audio jack, and it also works as a Bluetooth receiver, allowing you to wirelessly transmit music from your smartphone to your car’s stereo system or make any regular headphones wireless.

1. Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT

The Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT are great both when you’re on the couch and when you’re on the move. Their elegant, minimalistic design has been crafted from a combination of durable materials, so you don’t need to worry about them breaking when you fall asleep in the middle of a movie with the headphones still on your head.

We appreciate Sennheiser’s choice of the material for the earpads, which are soft, breathable, and comfortable enough even for a Star Wars or Lord of the Rings marathon. The same can also be said about their battery life, which hovers around 25 hours depending on your preferred volume level.

The sound of the Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT is clear, detailed, and carries with it a satisfyingly dynamic bass that makes action scenes come to life. The headphones support Bluetooth 4.0 and aptX, so you can sit very far away from your TV and still enjoy a strong signal.

For what they offer, the Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT are reasonably priced, and we can’t recommend them enough to anyone who agrees that sound is an important part of the TV experience.

2. Sony WH-1000XM3

If you live with roommates or have noisy neighbors, you know how difficult it can be to enjoy a good movie in peace and quiet. With the Sony WH-1000XM3, you can make distracting noises disappear thanks to their industry-leading noise cancellation technology, which relies on Sony’s new HD noise-canceling processor, called QN1.

The headphones, now in their third generation, are among the most comfortable on the market, featuring large, plush earpads that wrap around your ears and let you listen for hours on end without any fatigue. If you fly a lot, you’ll appreciate their unique atmospheric pressure optimizing technology, whose purpose is to deliver optimal sound at high altitudes.

The Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones deliver some of the best audio performance you can currently get, and they support the LDAC audio coding technology for streaming audio over Bluetooth connections up to 990 kbps at 24 bit/96 kHz. Charging is done via a USB-C port, as it should be these days.

The only real downside is their price, but it’s important to keep in mind that you’re paying not only for the best noise cancellation technology at the moment but also for excellent audio performance and exceptional comfort.

3. Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum

It’s not true that you can’t enjoy immersive 7.1 surround sound without an expensive home theater speaker system. The Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum cost less than $100, yet they deliver true 7.1 surround sound with their custom-tuned 50 mm neodymium speaker drivers. They also come with a foldable microphone, making them perfect for gamers who would rather pay only for a single pair of headphones that can do it all.

The headphones are compatible with all TVs that have a powered USB or RCA audio output port, and they also work with the PS3, PS4, and Xbox One gaming consoles. In fact, you can mix multiple audio sources at the same time, so you can, for example, play music while gaming or answer calls while binging on your favorite TV show.

You can customize your Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum headphones thanks to their RGB lighting and swappable backlit custom tags, but the lighting reduces their wireless battery life from 12 to 8 hours. What you won’t find on any other headphones except for these are 3 programmable G-keys to assign macros for complex game commands. That’s right: you can control your games using your headphones.

4. V-MODA Crossfade 2

The V-MODA Crossfade 2 are striking headphones. They look like a knight in a battle-marked armor, but they’re more than capable of producing crystal-clear highs and finely balanced mids and lows. Just like real knights, the V-MODA Crossfade 2 can survive just about anything you throw at them. Their Steelflex headband with vegan leather exterior is nearly indestructible, and so are the optional custom side plates, which V-MODA calls shields.

Even though we like to compare the headphones to knights, we could just as well compare them to those fair maidens knights in fairy tales always rescue because of how gently they sit on the ears. You can adjust the tension of the headband for maximum comfort, and we like how plushy and breathable the provided memory cushions are.

The V-MODA Crossfade 2 are tuned for powerful bass, but they do an excellent job of preventing it from bleeding into the mids and highs. You can listen in both wireless and wired mode, and the provided cable has survived over 1 million bends in testing thanks to its 45-degree plug. As long as you’re not an audio purist that demands nothing but a perfect balance of lows, mids, and highs, the sound of the V-MODA Crossfade 2 will delight you.

5. Mpow 059

Mpow’s marketing department was probably tired when coming up with a name for these Bluetooth headphones, but the rest of the company did an excellent job. For just $35, the Mpow 059 deliver surprisingly great sound quality with their 40 mm neodymium drivers powered by a CSR Bluetooth chip.

The headphones have a built-in microphone with echo and noise cancellation for hands-free phone calls, and there are handy call/playback control buttons on the right earcup. You can switch between wireless and wired mode with a 3.5 mm audio cable, which comes included with the headphones for free.

On a charge, the Mpow 059 give you around 20 hours of uninterrupted playback. When you’re done using them, you can fold them to save space. Unfortunately, Mpow doesn’t include a pouch or a hard-shell case with them, but you can buy one, such as the LTGEM Hard Headphone Case, for just a few dollars along with the headphones.
