Unlock Luigi Super Mario 64 Guide: Steps Tricks Nintendo Game

Unlocking Luigi in Super Mario 64: Separating Fact from Fiction

Super Mario 64, a classic Nintendo 64 game, has long been the subject of rumors and myths about unlocking Luigi as a playable character. However, the truth is that Luigi is not playable in the original Nintendo 64 version of the game.

Luigi in the Original Super Mario 64

Despite numerous claims and videos circulating online, there is no legitimate way to unlock Luigi in the original Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64. Misinformation, including fake codes, hacked ROMs, and speculation about hidden text in the game's textures, has led many players astray. The most common myth involves the phrase "L is real 2401," which is often cited as evidence that Luigi can be unlocked, but this has been thoroughly debunked by glitch hunters and programmers.

Using Cheat Devices

While Luigi cannot be unlocked as a playable character, players can use cheat devices like the Game Shark to alter Mario's appearance. For example, you can change Mario's clothing to resemble Luigi's outfit, although this does not change his face or body shape.

Luigi in Super Mario 64 DS

Luigi is, however, a playable character in the Nintendo DS version of the game, Super Mario 64 DS. To unlock Luigi in this version, follow these steps:

  1. Collect Stars: First, collect at least 8 stars, including the first star from Big Boo's Haunt.
  2. Access Big Boo's Haunt: Go to the main floor of the castle, through one of the brown doors, and follow the Boo to the backyard. Ground pound the big Boo to reveal a small entrance to Big Boo's Haunt.
  3. Navigate Big Boo's Haunt: Inside the haunted house, go upstairs and through the door on the far right. Use Mario to get the Flower Power from the "?" block and float up to the platform above.
  4. Enter Luigi's Painting: Ditch the Power Flower and go through the door. You will see Luigi's painting; jump into it to begin your quest to save Luigi.
  5. Complete the Challenge: Navigate through the correct doors, cross the falling bricks, and use the moving platforms to reach the top. Defeat King Boo by ground pounding him in the mirror and on your side.
  6. Unlock Luigi: After defeating King Boo, you will receive Luigi's key. Go to the character switch room and unlock Luigi's door.

Common Misconceptions

Several misconceptions and urban legends have circulated about unlocking Luigi in the original game. These include claims that you must complete the game without getting hit a certain number of times, perform specific actions around statues, or follow complex sequences of movements. None of these methods are valid, and they have been disproven by the gaming community.

By understanding the differences between the original Super Mario 64 and its DS remake, players can avoid wasting time on false leads and enjoy the game with the correct information.
