Solved Samsung Galaxy S8 Not Receiving MMS Messages After Software Update

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 is considered as one of the best Android smartphones released last year. This is a flagship model that sports a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display that occupies most of the front portion of the phone which is made possible since the phone no longer has a physical home button. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 835 processor which when combined with its 4GB of RAM allows the device to run smoothly. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8 not receiving MMS messages after software update issue and other related problems.

S8 Not Receiving MMS Messages After Software Update

Problem: I recently installed the Oreo system update and noticed I wasn’t able to receive mms messages. I would get a notification that I received one but it never downloaded. I understand that it’s because my mobile data is turned off (and yes, once I turn it on it works), but I was previously able to keep my mobile data turned off and it would automatically turn on temporarily to receive the mms messages and would turn back off once received. Has the Oreo update changed/removed a setting to automatically turn on/off data? Is there a way to configure it to do this again so that I don’t constantly have my data running in the background? Are there any third-party sms apps that would allow me to configure this setting? I’ve read your previous advice and have tried just about everything listed, but I wanted to see if there is a way to get this automatic mms data toggle back.

Solution: Sending and receiving an MMS requires a mobile data connection. If you were able to send and receive an MMS when the mobile data switch is off ( because it will turn on temporarily when needed) then this feature might not be included in the latest software update. To check if this is the case and not just a software glitch you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If after the reset the problem still occurs then you should consider using a third party messaging app  that you can download from the Google Play Store.

S8 Group Text Message Not Sending After Software Update

Problem: Since update last weekend, my group text messages are not consistently sending. Time stamp implies they all send but recipients are not getting all of them. Called AT&T and they did reset of phone. Only worked for a little while. I did soft reset and cleared cache…no luck. Took phone to AT&T. They installed new sim card. Still didn’t work. They told me it was a Samsung update glitch issue…not their problem.

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset from the recovery mode. This way you will be able to remove any old software that has not been completely remove during the update process. This old data will usually cause issues such as this.

Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Make sure that you have a working mobile data connection before checking if the issue still occurs.

In case the problem still persists then this could be caused by a bug in the update. You will then have to check if another update is available and install it in your phone as this might fix the problem.

S8 Not Sending Group Text Message

Problem: Been having issues with sending texts. Mainly to group conversation. Not everyone will receive the messages I send. Sometimes none of them get the message. Happens a lot with pictures. Also having issue with sending multiple pictures to one person. They only get some of the images. Tried to factory reset. Did not work.

Solution: If a factory reset does not fix the problem then the problem could be network related. Try checking if the issue occurs on a specific area or location. If it does then there might be a network problem in that area. You should also try replacing your SIM card to eliminate any SIM related problems. When sending a group text message make sure that you have a strong mobile data signal.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will have to contact your carrier regarding this issue.

S8 Not Sending Video File In Text Message After Software Update

Problem: Since the last update. i have not been able to send video via text messages or email….pictures are fine but when i try to send a short video “Unable to attach. File not supported” shows up. I can view the video from my gallery but cant send it. Previously I had no problems sending video. Thanks

Solution: It’s very likely that this phone is caused by a glitch in the update process. There might be some old software data that has not been completely removed from the phone which is causing this problem. The best thing to do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete make sure that your phone has the correct APN settings.
