Solved Samsung Galaxy S8 Black Screen When Camera Is Used

Welcome to another installment of our troubleshooting series where we aim to help our readers who own the #Samsung #Galaxy #S8 fix the issues that they are experiencing with their phone. This model is one of the best smartphone models released last year and in fact is still great to use today. It has a powerful hardware architecture that allows it to run several apps with ease. It also has a great 12MP dual pixel rear camera that takes high quality photos even in low lighting conditions. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when  certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. Today we will tackle the Galaxy S8 black screen when camera is used issue and other related problems.

S8 Black Screen When Camera Is Used

Problem: Sometimes, when I want to use my camera, a black screen appears. I can leave this screen via the home button, but I cannot take a picture. Same goes for scanning via the Camscanner-app. Sometimes when I restart my phone, the problem is solved. However, it keeps reoccurring. Do you know what could be wrong with my phone? Could it be the app?

Thanks in advance!

Solution: The first thing that you will want to do in this case is to check if a glitch in the camera app is causing this problem. To do this you will have to clear the cache and data of the camera app from the application manager. Once this is done try to check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.

S8 Video Recording Failed Error After Software Update

Problem: A week ago when there was an update I would I try to record a video, on any resolution /size I get the “recording failed” pop up. After the 2nd update I thought it would have fixed this but it didn’t. I’ve seen things online to clear the cache – nothing changed. I deleted my recently downloaded apps – nothing changed. I backed up and master reset – nothing happened. Please help as I like to take videos.

Solution: If this issue happened right after a software update then it’s possible that this is caused by a software glitch. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem. After performing a step immediately check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed to the next step.

  • Clear the cache and data of the camera app from the application manager.
  • Check if the issue occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S8 Photos Are Greyed Out

Problem: Hi, My phone will transfer some photos from my phone to the PC, but not all of them. When I check in the ‘Gallery’ on the phone some of the photo tiles are there on view and the rest are greyed-out (completely) with a mountain peak symbol in the centre and an exclamation mark. It would appear that these are the ones that won’t transfer. Any ideas? I’ve tried the soft reset already.

Solution: If your photos are greyed out with an exclamation mark then these photos are corrupt. Is the camera set to save the photos to the microSD card? If it is then the microSD card could be causing this problem. Try to change the default save location to the internal storage of the phone then remove the microSD card. If the issue does not occur then you will have to use a different microSD card as the one you are using could already be faulty.

In case you do not have a microSD card installed in the phone and the issue still occurs then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset as the problem is most likely caused by a software glitch.

S8 Camera Freezes

Problem: Every time I turn on my camera and want to take a selfie, the camera freezes and it gives me the message “fatal error”. Also in Snapchat, the front camera will freeze often and it is honestly very annoying at this point! I have tried so many things! Please help!!

Solution: What you should do first in this case is to clear the cache and data of the camera app from the application manager then check if the issue still occurs. If the issue persists then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

In case the issue persists at this point then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
