Samsung Partners with Epic Games, Krafton to Bring Exclusive Games to Foldable Phones

Samsung is partnering with major game developers like Epic Games and Krafton to bring exclusive and optimized games to its foldable smartphones, according to reports. The move is part of Samsung’s strategy to differentiate its foldable devices, like the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, from competing devices coming out of China.

The company has reportedly created a Gaming Task Force team across several countries to work with developers on creating customized games for Samsung’s foldables. The teams are collaborating with gaming companies like Epic Games, Krafton, NCSoft, Nexon, Smilegate, Kakao Games, and Pearl Abyss.

Goal is More Immersive Experiences on Foldable Displays

The goal is to take advantage of the larger, more flexible displays on Samsung’s foldable phones to create more immersive gaming experiences. For example, games could utilize one half of the folded screen for game controls and the other for the gameplay.

Samsung believes bringing exclusive, optimized games to its devices will help drive further adoption of foldable phones. The first of these customized games are expected to launch in early 2024, potentially through Samsung’s Gaming Hub platform.

Part of Broader Effort to Improve Software Experience

Beyond gaming, Samsung is also reportedly working closely with Google to develop foldable-specific features for Android to improve the software experience on devices like the Galaxy Z Fold. With foldable phone sales expected to grow nearly 40% this year, Samsung is hoping these efforts will help them maintain a competitive edge.
