S5 Screen Unresponsive To Touch

Problem: The screen on my S5 is totally frozen. It is completely unresponsive to touch in any way. This has happened before and usually just a simple battery break would do the trick, or sometimes I would have to take out the SIM card as well. Now nothing is working. Everything else about the phone seems to be working fine. It will notify me when texts come in and when I get emails etc. except I can’t see them because my phone is locked. It was recommended to me that I do a hard reboot. I did, but to no avail, the screen is still unresponsive.

Solution: The problem could be caused by a faulty digitizer. Since you already performed a factory reset which failed to resolve the issue then it’s very likely that this could already be a hardware problem. I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Goes Black

Problem: My phone goes black and will not turn back on unless I take out the battery and it has glitches on me before and I’ve tried updating it but it says I have no system updates… I don’t want to go through Verizon because they are rude… But i would like help

Solution: Since you mentioned that the issue temporarily gets resolved by taking out the battery then it’s very likely that this is caused by issues with the phone software. Listed below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do in cases such as this. Move to the next step if the current step you performed fails to resolve the problem.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the phone’s temporary data which if corrupt can cause this problem. Restart your phone then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Flashes Yellow Then Go Blank

Problem: Occasionally (about 50% of the time) when I turn the screen on, the screen will flash yellow, and go blank. Sometimes it will return to normal after pressing the power button a few times, and other times, I have to take out the battery to get the phone to restart. I haven’t downloaded any new apps in the past month or so, and the yellow flash just started happening the other day.

Solution: There are many ways to attack this issue. You can start by checking if an app is causing the problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the preinstalled apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. You need to observe if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Another factor that can cause this problem is some form of corrupt temporary data in the device. To check if this is the case you need to start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This action takes out the temporary data of the phone.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy of your phone data before doing this.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue then this could already be a hardware related issue. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center if this is the case.

S5 Screen Turns Black After Firmware Update

Problem: I recently updated my firmware to the latest version and since then my screen keeps on flickering and sometimes the phone keeps hanging and then restarts itself. Your help will be very welcome. Thanks

Solution: Is this the official firmware which you got from the official channel? If it is then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will delete the old software data which could still be in your phone and is causing the problem. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone just yet. You should first check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should consider downgrading your phone back to the previous firmware version. To do this you will need to flash the previous firmware to your device. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Swipe Not Working After Phone Got Wet

Problem: After dropping my phone in the toilet and drying it the phone is turning on and the screen is fine but won’t allow me to swipe or touch it

Solution: It looks like the digitizer may be damaged by the water. Try starting your phone in recovery mode then see if you can do a factory from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to only do this if you have a backup copy.

If you are unable to perform a factory reset then this is already a hardware issue. I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Screen Is Black

Problem: I had the galaxy s5 for only 2months new, at first the scream would just turn black, now it stays black all other buttons work and the light on them by the screen remains black.

Related Problem: Screen remains black. I can hear when the phone rings or someone leaves a message but I cannot access as screen black. Thank you, would appreciate some advice.

Solution: What you can do in this case is to start the phone in recovery mode. This is a separate environment from the main operating system. If you are able to access this mode then it’s very likely that a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. I recommend you do a factory reset in this mode.

If you are unable to access the recovery mode then the display of the phone could already be damaged. Bring your phone to an authorized service center then have it checked if this is the case.

  2. I have a Samsung s5. I did an update and now the screen will not come on. I have removed the battery and the sim card. I can see the blue dot in the top left corner and the double rectangle plus the back arrow will light up. I can hear the phone receive stuff and I have even answered it when ringing……I have a protective glass ( although it is cracked) on the front and it has always been in a case. I can not get the screen to react and open up. What do I need to do?
