How to Fix Redmi Note 8 Stuck on Fastboot Screen

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 can get stuck on the Fastboot screen and refuse to boot into the normal operating system. This usually happens after a failed update, interrupted flash, or software corruption, and the following methods will fix it.

Method 1: Force Restart

A force restart can break the Fastboot loop and boot the phone normally.

  1. Press and hold the Power button for 15 to 20 seconds until the phone vibrates and the screen goes dark.
  2. Release the button and wait for the phone to restart normally.
  3. If the Xiaomi logo appears followed by the home screen, the issue is resolved.

Method 2: Exit Fastboot from the Menu

The Fastboot screen on Xiaomi devices sometimes has an option to reboot normally.

  1. On the Fastboot screen, look for a “Reboot” or “Start” option.
  2. Use the Volume buttons to navigate and the Power button to select.
  3. If available, select “Reboot” to restart into the normal operating system.

Method 3: Boot into Recovery Mode

Recovery mode gives you access to system repair tools without needing to boot into the OS.

  1. While on the Fastboot screen, press and hold both the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously.
  2. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds until the Mi Recovery menu appears.
  3. Select “Reboot” to attempt a normal boot.
  4. If that does not work, try “Wipe cache” first, then reboot.

Method 4: Wipe Cache from Recovery

Corrupted cache files can prevent the phone from booting past Fastboot.

  1. Enter Recovery mode (Volume Up + Power from the Fastboot screen).
  2. Select “Wipe data” or “Wipe cache.”
  3. Confirm the action.
  4. Select “Reboot” after the wipe is complete.

Method 5: Factory Reset from Recovery

If wiping the cache does not work, a factory reset from recovery can fix deeper software corruption. This erases all data.

  1. Enter Recovery mode.
  2. Select “Wipe data” then “Wipe all data.”
  3. Confirm the factory reset.
  4. Wait for the process to complete.
  5. Select “Reboot” to restart the phone.

Method 6: Flash Stock ROM via Mi Flash Tool

If the phone will not exit Fastboot through any other method, you can flash the stock firmware using Xiaomi’s official tool on a computer.

  1. Download Mi Flash Tool from Xiaomi’s official website on a Windows computer.
  2. Download the correct Fastboot ROM for your Redmi Note 8 model from the official MIUI website.
  3. Extract both the Mi Flash Tool and the ROM file.
  4. Connect your phone (still on Fastboot screen) to the computer via USB.
  5. Open Mi Flash Tool and select the extracted ROM folder.
  6. Click Flash and wait for the process to complete.
  7. The phone will automatically reboot into the normal operating system.
