HMD Global has expanded its smartphone portfolio with the announcement of the Nokia G42 5G. Keeping consumer interests at the forefront, the company promises easy repairability of this new 5G-enabled device.
Nokia G42 5G Features and Specifications
Sporting a 6.56-inch 90Hz LCD screen fortified with Gorilla Glass 3, the Nokia G42 5G is equipped with a Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G chipset. It offers RAM options ranging from 4GB to 6GB and flaunts an expandable storage capacity of up to 128GB.
Powering the device is a hefty 5,000mAh battery designed for two or three days usage on a single charge. Simultaneously, it also supports connected living with Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, and NFC capabilities. The audio experience is expected to be immersive thanks to OZO 3D audio technology included for capture and playback.
The mobile’s camera system consists of a trio in its rear setup – it houses a primary lens of 50MP accompanied by twin sensors each of 2MP for macro shots and depth sensing respectively. Selfie enthusiasts can count on an 8MP front-facing camera embedded in the handset.
Nokia G42: First Consumer-Repairable Smartphone
In collaboration with iFixit, known for their expertise in consumer electronics repairs, HMD Global ensures that owners will be able to replace parts like display, battery, charging port, and back cover by themselves using guides and components provided.
These parts are anticipated to be available via iFixit for about five years from launch date. However, these are not removable in the conventional sense as one may need a pick tool to detach any faulty part.
Device Price and Availability
The Nokia G42 model with comprehensive memory configuration (6GB/128GB) comes priced at $199 or €249 or £199 based on your geographic location. There will be another variant featuring lower memory (4GB/128GB) aimed at European markets but pricing details for this option remain unconfirmed.
The company said that US-based consumers along with their UK and European counterparts will have access to So Purple and So Grey versions of this smartphone.
In addition, UK buyers have been notified by HMD Global about availability starting tomorrow at £199 apiece. The Digital Lavender color option appears to reflect current trends whereas Pink and Grey variants are expected to follow soon.
