Newest Samsung Galaxy S25 Specs and Release Date Rumors Updates
As the tech world eagerly anticipates the next flagship from Samsung, a plethora of rumors and leaks have surfaced providing insight into the upcoming Galaxy S25 series. Here are the latest updates on what to expect from Samsung's newest offerings.
Release Date
Following Samsung's traditional release cycle, the Galaxy S25 series is expected to be unveiled in early 2025. Specifically, analysts and leakers suggest that the launch could occur in January or February, aligning with the release timelines of the Galaxy S24 and S23 series.
Design and Display
The Galaxy S25 series is rumored to undergo significant design changes. The Ultra model, in particular, is expected to feature a lighter and more compact design, weighing just 219 grams, which is lighter than both its predecessor and the latest iPhone 16 Pro Max. The phone will have flat sides on all four edges, similar to the design of the Pixel 9 and iPhone, and will retain a 6.8-inch screen size despite being smaller in dimensions due to thinner bezels.
For the base and Plus models, there are indications of a slight increase in screen size, with the base model potentially featuring a 6.17-inch or 6.36-inch display, and the Plus model likely seeing a similar incremental increase. The Ultra model might have a slightly larger display, possibly reaching up to 6.9 inches.
Performance and Chipsets
The Galaxy S25 series is expected to be powered by cutting-edge chipsets. In most markets, the phones are likely to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which promises significant performance and power efficiency improvements, including the ability to reach speeds of up to 4GHz. However, in some regions, Samsung may opt for its own Exynos 2500 chip, built on Samsung Foundry's second-generation 3nm fabrication process.
The use of MediaTek chips is also a possibility, although this is less certain. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is anticipated to offer substantial upgrades over its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which caps out at 3.3GHz.
Camera Upgrades
The camera system on the Galaxy S25 series is set to receive notable upgrades. The Ultra model will reportedly feature a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with a 3x zoom, along with a 50MP sensor for the 5x telephoto lens. While the main camera sensor might remain similar to the one in the S24 series, the ultrawide and telephoto lenses are expected to see significant improvements.
For the base and Plus models, Samsung has announced new camera sensors, including a 50MP GNJ sensor, which is expected to enhance efficiency in preview mode and 4K video recording at 60 fps. However, major hardware upgrades to the camera system for these models are not highly anticipated.
Battery and Charging
The Galaxy S25 series is rumored to come with larger batteries to compensate for the increased power consumption of the new chipsets. The Ultra model is expected to retain a 5,000mAh battery with up to 45W charging, similar to its predecessor. Other models might see batteries as large as 5,500mAh, although this is less confirmed. Additionally, there are rumors about the use of stack technology for the battery, which could improve energy density by up to 10%.
Software
The Galaxy S25 series will likely run on Android 15, with Samsung's One UI 7 layered on top. This update will include a four-year guarantee of software upgrade support, ensuring the devices stay current with the latest features and security patches.
AI and Power Efficiency
Samsung is focusing on enhancing AI capabilities with the Galaxy S25 series. The phones will utilize Gemini Nano 2 and are expected to feature advanced on-device AI solutions, with Samsung planning to double its workforce dedicated to developing these solutions for Exynos chips. The Exynos 2500 chip is also expected to deliver improved power efficiency compared to its predecessor.
Other Features
The Galaxy S25 series may include next-generation OLED displays with fingerprint scanning capabilities anywhere on the screen and the ability to scan multiple fingerprints simultaneously. The phones are also expected to have brighter screens, higher refresh rates, and tougher glass. Design enhancements could include rounder edges, new colors, and improved dust and water protection.
Pricing
While Samsung has maintained consistent pricing for its Galaxy S models in recent years, there is speculation that the Galaxy S25 series might see a price increase, particularly for the Ultra model. The base and Plus models have historically been priced at $799 and $999, respectively, but the Ultra model saw a $100 price increase in 2025. The final pricing will depend on market conditions and component costs closer to the launch date.
