China’s Wuhan province and some neighboring regions have faced outbreaks of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus over the past few weeks with the death toll now rising to nearly 500. This is said to have impacted China’s neighboring regions as well, including countries like South Korea, which happens to be the home region of manufacturer LG.
The company has now announced that due to the outbreak near its home country and “with the safety of its employees, partners and customers foremost in mind,” it will stay out of the Mobile World Congress 2020 event scheduled to be held in Barcelona later this month. It’s worth mentioning that LG is not the only company to stay out of the event with ZTE deciding to stay out as well.
This increases the likelihood of more companies skipping the event as a safety precaution. Reports mention that Xiaomi has canceled parts of the event for the annual event, but the company is still expected to be present at the MWC.
The virus has a tendency to spread rapidly around the atmosphere. You can gather more details on it from CDC’s official page here.
Meanwhile, fellow South Korean manufacturer Samsung is expected to announce its trio of Galaxy S20 flagships on the 11th of February in San Francisco. The company is also expected to take the wraps off the Galaxy Z Flip at the same event.
