Kia Will Launch The EV4, A Compact Electric Sedan In March 2025 Offering Over 300 Miles Range
Kia is set to make significant waves in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the upcoming launch of its EV4 sedan, scheduled for production in March 2025. This new model will represent Kia’s first dedicated electric sedan built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which is also utilized for the small SUV EV3.
The EV4 aims to cater to consumers who prefer sedans over SUVs, thereby broadening Kia’s appeal in the competitive EV landscape.
Key Features and Specifications
The Kia EV4 is expected to deliver impressive performance metrics, likely sharing battery and motor specifications with the EV3. The long-range version of the EV3 boasts a range of up to 600 kilometers (approximately 372 miles) using an 81.4 kWh battery, producing a maximum output of 150 kW (around 201 horsepower).
Given the more aerodynamic design of the sedan, the EV4 may even exceed these figures, potentially offering an estimated EPA range of over 300 miles.
Production Plans
Production of the EV4 will primarily take place at Kia’s Gwangmyeong plant in South Korea, with plans for a European offshoot to be manufactured at its facility in Zilina, Slovakia.
This strategic move aligns with Kia’s broader goal of establishing a robust presence in the European automotive sector, particularly in light of recent tariffs imposed by the EU on Chinese-made EVs.
The Zilina plant has been operational since 2006 and will play a crucial role in meeting European demand for electric vehicles.
Expanding the Electric Vehicle Lineup
The introduction of the EV4 is part of Kia’s broader strategy to expand its electric vehicle offerings. Alongside the EV4, Kia plans to launch several new models, including:
- Small SUV EV3
- Semi-medium-sized Sedan EV4
- Semi-medium-sized SUV EV5
- Semi-medium-sized Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) EV6
- Semi-large SUV EV9
This comprehensive lineup is designed to meet diverse consumer preferences and enhance Kia’s competitive edge in both North America and Europe.
Future Goals and Market Positioning
Kia aims to significantly increase its global electric vehicle sales, targeting one million units by 2026 and 1.6 million units by 2030. This ambitious plan reflects Kia’s commitment to innovation and sustainable growth as it navigates challenges within the automotive industry.
With the upcoming launch of the Kia EV4, the company is poised to strengthen its position in the electric vehicle market. By focusing on local production in Europe and expanding its lineup of dedicated electric vehicles, Kia aims to meet growing consumer demand while contributing to a more sustainable future.
As automakers worldwide pivot towards electrification, Kia’s strategic initiatives will be critical in securing its place as a leader in this rapidly evolving industry.
