How to set up Iris Recognition (Iris Scanner) on Galaxy Tab S4
With Galaxy Tab S4, Samsung has intentionally shied away from fingerprint unlock and instead replaced it with Iris Unlock and Facial Recognition. In this short tutorial, we show you how to prepare your device to recognize your Iris to unlock it. In order to set up Iris Recognition properly, make sure that you are in well lit room or environment with plenty of light. If you are wearing glasses or contact lenses, remove them. In order for this feature to work optimally, avoid using screen protectors or tempered glass.
Steps to set up Iris Recognition (Iris Scanner) on Galaxy Tab S4
- From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen. These instructions only apply to the default Home screen layout.
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Biometrics and security.
- From the Biometrics section, tap Iris Scanner.
- If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
- Review the disclaimer then tap NEXT.
- Tap OK.
- If presented, tap CONTINUE.
- If presented, select a lock screen option (e.g., Pattern, PIN, Password) then follow the steps to complete the process.
- Review the info then tap CONTINUE.
- While holding the phone 10-14 inches away, open your eyes wide and look at the screen. Position your eyes within the circles shown on the screen until your irises have been registered.
- Review the info then tap the right Arrow icon > (lower right) to continue. Repeat this step until all notifications are read.
- If presented, tap the Notifications switch (upper-right) to turn on.
- Tap DONE.
- When on, configure any of the following:
- Hide content (Tap to turn on or off.)
- Notification icons only (Tap to turn on or off.)
- Transparency (Slide the blue bar left or right to adjust the level while viewing the preview at the top.)
- Auto-reverse text color (Tap to turn on or off.) This reverses the color of notification text based upon background color.
- When on, configure any of the following:
- If presented, tap TURN ON.
- That’s it!
Setting up your device for Iris recognition is as easy as following instructions. Be careful though not to overdo it to avoid any unnecessary hassles. This feature may not be available all the time, depending on how your firmware is setup. For devices provided by your company, Iris recognition may not be available. If you are getting an error when setting it up, contact your IT department to know whether or not this is being blocked.
