How To Open Tesla Glovebox Set Pin And Voice Command

Opening the glove box in a Tesla is a straightforward process, but it varies slightly depending on the model of your vehicle. Here’s a detailed guide on how to open the glove box, set a PIN, and use voice commands.

Opening the Glove Box

Model 3 & Model Y:

To open the glove box in a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Car Icon: On the touchscreen, tap the car icon located at the corner of the screen.
  2. Select Glove Box: Tap the "Glove box" button that appears on the screen. The glove box will automatically open, and the light inside will turn on.

Model S & Model X (Newer Models):

For newer Model S and Model X vehicles, the process is similar:

  1. Access Controls: Tap "Controls" or "Quick Actions" on the touchscreen.
  2. Select Glove Box: Tap the "Glove box" button. The glove box will open, and the light will turn on.

Model S & Model X (Older Models):

For older Model S and Model X vehicles (pre-2021), you need to:

  1. Press the Glove Box Button: Locate the triangular glove box button to the right of the touchscreen and press it. The glove box will open.
  2. Close the Glove Box: To close it, push the glove box upward until it clicks into place.

Using Voice Commands

One of the most convenient ways to open the glove box is through voice commands:

  1. Press the Voice Command Button: Press the voice command button on the steering wheel.
  2. Speak the Command: Say "open glove box." If your glove box requires a PIN, the screen will prompt you to enter it; otherwise, the glove box will open immediately.

Setting a Glove Box PIN

To add an extra layer of security to your glove box, you can set a PIN:

  1. Access Safety & Security Settings: On the touchscreen, go to "Controls" > "Safety & Security" > "Glovebox PIN."
  2. Follow the Instructions: Follow the on-screen instructions to set your 4-digit PIN. This PIN will be required every time someone tries to open the glove box.

Removing the Glove Box PIN

If you decide to remove the PIN:

  1. Access Glove Box PIN Settings: Go to "Controls" > "Safety & Security" > "Glovebox PIN."
  2. Disable the PIN: Tap "Disable" and enter your current PIN to remove the security protection.

Forgot Glove Box PIN

If you forget your glove box PIN, you can reset it:

  1. Enter Tesla Account Credentials: At the bottom of the glove box PIN screen, enter your Tesla account login credentials.
  2. Follow the Instructions: Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PIN.

Additional Security Notes

  • Glove Box Locking: When the vehicle is locked, the glove box is also locked, unless the vehicle is locked through the touchscreen. Using your keyfob, phone, keycard, or the app to lock your car will also lock your glove box. In Valet Mode, the glove box is automatically locked.
  • Manual Access: While the glove box is designed to be secure, it is possible to manually open it by accessing the side panel of the dashboard and releasing the latch. However, this requires access to unlock and open the passenger side door.

Troubleshooting

If your glove box won’t stay closed, it might be due to a faulty trigger mechanism:

  1. Check the Triggers: Manually pull out the round triggers on the left and right side of the glove box and try to close it. If it stays closed, the triggers may need to be replaced. This issue is covered under Tesla’s warranty.
