How to Beat Flaahgra in Metroid Prime Remastered Guide
Encountering Flaahgra in Metroid Prime Remastered
Flaahgra, a formidable photosynthesizing plant, is one of the early bosses in Metroid Prime Remastered, encountered in the Chozo Ruins' Sunchamber. Defeating this boss requires a strategic approach, leveraging Samus's abilities and understanding the mechanics of the fight.
Preparing for the Battle
Before engaging in combat, it is crucial to scan both Flaahgra and its tentacle. These scans are necessary for completing the Creatures section of the Log Book and are only available during this encounter.
Stunning Flaahgra
To begin the fight, use Samus's Beam to fire at Flaahgra until it becomes temporarily stunned. This initial step is essential as it allows you to target the mirror arrays without interference from the boss.
Disabling the Mirror Arrays
While Flaahgra is stunned, focus on the mirror arrays that are reflecting sunlight onto it. Use a fully-charged Charge Beam or Missiles to hit the red button on the back of each array, causing them to point upwards. This action will disrupt Flaahgra's power source, causing it to collapse and retract one of its tentacles, revealing a Morph Ball slot.
Using Morph Ball Bombs
Once the tentacle retracts, quickly transform into Morph Ball form and roll through the channel to the exposed Morph Ball slot. Place a Morph Ball Bomb here to deal significant damage to Flaahgra.
Repeating the Process
The battle becomes progressively more challenging as the number of mirror arrays increases. Here are some key strategies to help you succeed:
- Stun and Redirect: Stun Flaahgra before attempting to redirect the mirrors. If left active, Flaahgra will restore the mirrors to their original position.
- Use Missiles: Missiles are effective for quickly stunning Flaahgra, allowing you more time to redirect the mirrors.
- Morph Ball Mobility: Utilize Morph Ball form to speed up travel between mirrors and to the channel, making the process more efficient.
- Targeting Mirrors: Ensure you hit the red button on the back of each mirror with Missiles or a fully-charged Charge Beam to redirect them effectively.
Managing Multiple Mirrors
As the fight progresses, you will need to disable two, then three, and finally all four mirror arrays. Each phase requires you to stun Flaahgra and redirect the mirrors before placing a Morph Ball Bomb. The key is to maintain a rhythm of stunning and redirecting, using your Morph Ball form to quickly move around the area.
Reward and Next Steps
Upon defeating Flaahgra, you will earn the Varia Suit, which protects Samus from extreme heat and allows access to previously inaccessible areas. After the battle, proceed through the Sun Tower Access, avoiding obstacles and enemies along the way. This will lead you to new areas and further challenges in the game.
