Galaxy S10 WiFi keeps disconnecting after Android 10 update

The Android 10 update for the Samsung Galaxy S10 and its variants is stable and there were just a few owners who reported some serious issues after installing it. However, minor issues may occur every now and then, and among the most commonly reported problems is about WiFi.Learn how to fix your Galaxy S10 that keeps disconnecting from the WiFi network

Some of the owners who just updated their devices reported that the WiFi service started to drop or disconnect shortly after the Android 10 update. They would still be able to connect to the network but the connection drops every now and then, which makes it pretty annoying, actually.

We have encountered similar issues a few times in the past and we can assure you that it’s not really that serious. In fact, you may be able to rectify the problem by doing one or a couple of procedures, and that’s the purpose of this post.

We will guide you in troubleshooting your Galaxy S10 that started to keep on disconnecting from the WiFi network after the device was updated. If you’re one of the owners of this device and are currently having a similar issue, continue reading as we may be able to help you.

What to do if Galaxy S10 keeps disconnecting from WiFi network

Just because your phone started disconnecting from the network after the Android 10 update does not mean it has a problem. Remember that for the WiFi connection to be successful, both your phone and the network device should be working properly. It can be just a coincidence that the network problem started after the update but we don’t know for sure. So, here are the things you need to do to try and fix your Galaxy S10 that keeps disconnecting from the WiFi network.

First solution: Do the Forced Restart before anything else

The problem started after an update so there’s always a possibility that it’s a minor firmware issue. Some services including the network services may need to be refreshed and there’s no better way to do that than the forced restart.

It is a simulated battery removal that refreshes your phone’s memory and reloads all services. If this is indeed just a minor problem that started after the Android 10 update, then you should be able to make your Galaxy S10 work perfectly after doing this procedure.

How to force restart your Android phone

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10 logo shows on the screen.

Once your phone has finished rebooting, make sure it is connected to the WiFi network and then use it like you often do to see if it still disconnects. Most of the time, for minor issues that occurred after an update, the forced restart is all you need to make things work perfectly again.

Second solution: Restart your Network Devices

After doing the forced restart and your Galaxy S10 still continues to disconnect from the network, then the next thing that you have to do is to refresh the memory of your network device or router. As I said earlier, just because your phone has this kind of problem doesn’t mean that it’s the one with the problem. It is always possible that your router has already started to fail. To rule it out, follow the instructions below to power-cycle your network device.

  1. Unplug your modem or router from the wall outlet or simply disconnect the power cord from the main unit.
  2. Leave it without power for a minute or two.
  3. After that, plug it back into the wall outlet or reconnect the cord.
  4. Wait for the device to become online and then let your phone reconnect to it.

If your Galaxy S10 still keeps disconnecting from WiFi even after this, then at least, we now know that your network device is working properly. It’s also better to try and test your other devices to see if they work properly on the same network. That will isolate the problem to your S10.

Third solution: Reset the Network Settings on your Android

This procedure is now necessary since the problem still continues to occur even after the first two solutions. What it does is refresh the connection from your phone itself as well as reset all the network services.

For minor network issues, this procedure is enough to fix it. It’s safe for both your phone and data but also very effective.

How to reset the network settings on your phone

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset network settings.
  6. Tap Reset settings.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

After doing the network reset, enable WiFi and let your phone reconnect to the network. Use it normally and see if it still disconnects or drops the WiFi signal. If the problem remained, then try the next solution.

Fourth solution: Delete the old cache so that it will be replaced

When the system cache gets corrupted, various issues may occur to your phone and this might be just one of those problems. Thus, the next thing that you need to do to rule out this possibility is to wipe the cache partition.

Doing so will delete the old system cache and the system will replace it. You can do so by rebooting your phone into the recovery mode and execute the command from there. Follow the instructions below to know how to do it.

How to wipe the cache partition on Galaxy S10

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy S10 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once your phone has finished rebooting after wiping the cache partition, make sure it’s connected to the WiFi network and try to see if the problem still occurs.

Fifth solution: Do the Master Reset on your phone

Here’s the thing, as long as the firmware has not been modified and that your phone does not have any signs of physical or liquid damage, this problem can be fixed by a reset. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data prior to the reset because you may lose them and not be able to retrieve them after the reset.

Also, it’s best to remove your google account prior to the reset so that you won’t be locked out of your device in case you forgot your password. This will also give you the freedom to use a different account after the reset. When ready, follow the instructions below to reset your phone.

How to Master Reset your phone

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

When the reset is complete, set up your phone as a new device and enjoy.
