How to Fix Call of Duty Install Suspended Error
The “Install Suspended” error in Call of Duty prevents you from playing the game while it is still downloading or installing content. Here are all the methods to fix this error on PlayStation and Xbox.
Method 1: Wait for the Full Installation
Call of Duty games are very large and download content in the background even after the initial install appears complete. The “Install Suspended” message often means the game is still downloading required data packs.
- Check your download queue to see if the game is still downloading additional content.
- On PlayStation: Go to the notification area to see the download progress.
- On Xbox: Go to My games and apps, then Manage, then Updates.
- Let all downloads complete before trying to play.
Method 2: Check Your Internet Connection
A slow or disconnected internet can cause the download to pause, triggering the install suspended error.
- On PlayStation: Go to Settings, Network, Test Internet Connection.
- On Xbox: Go to Settings, General, Network settings, Test network connection.
- If your connection is slow, restart your router.
- Use a wired Ethernet connection for faster and more stable downloads.
Method 3: Check Storage Space
Call of Duty requires a massive amount of storage. If your drive is full, the installation will be suspended.
- On PlayStation: Go to Settings, Storage, and check available space.
- On Xbox: Go to Settings, System, Storage.
- Free up at least 100GB for a full Call of Duty installation.
- Delete games or apps you no longer use to free space.
Method 4: Pause and Resume the Download
Pausing and resuming the download can fix a stalled installation process.
- Go to your download queue.
- Find the Call of Duty download and pause it.
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Resume the download and let it continue.
Method 5: Restart Your Console
A restart clears temporary issues that can cause downloads to hang or suspend.
- On PlayStation: Press the PS button, go to Power, and select Restart PS4/PS5.
- On Xbox: Press the Xbox button, go to Profile and System, then Restart console.
- After restarting, the download should resume automatically.
Method 6: Delete and Reinstall the Game
If the installation is stuck and will not resume, a fresh installation from scratch can fix corrupted download files.
- Delete Call of Duty from your console.
- Restart your console.
- Download and install the game again from your library or disc.
- Keep the console on and connected to the internet until the full installation completes.
- Do not put the console in rest mode during the initial installation.
