5 Best Gallery App For Android in 2024

A lot of smartphones such as from Samsung or LG come with their best gallery app for android. This is usually a bare-bones stock app that is quite simply a place to store images. For Samsung phones, there are a few extra features inside the gallery app, but for the most part, stock gallery apps that come with your smartphone aren’t much to talk about.

And more often than not, they’re difficult to navigate, which makes it hard to go back months or years at a time to find old photos. That’s why you need a gallery app for Android that was designed well, not only with an excellent user interface but something that can do more than be a place to store your photos.

Not sure what the best gallery apps are for Android? If you follow along below, we’ll show you some of the best that you can pick up for Android.

1) Google Photos

Google Photos is one of our favorite gallery apps for Android. That’s because Google Photos doesn’t rely on your system storage to store photos. Instead, it uses the Cloud. Google Photos has a couple of excellent options for this. One, if you don’t mind losing some resolution to your photos, you can get free, unlimited Cloud storage for Google Photos.

If you want to keep your resolution, you still get Cloud storage, but it counts towards the free 15GB of Cloud storage that you get with your Google account. Once you hit that limit, you’ll have to purchase more space.

Aside from the unique storage options that Google Photos brings you, it has a lot of other essential features that you would expect out of a gallery app — shared albums, automatic creations, and there is even a built-in advanced editing suite. You won’t have to worry about storage either, as you can choose to automatically back up all your photos and videos for free in high quality.

One of the cool things about that is that you won’t just be able to access your photos from your phone, but on any connected devices that can access the Internet.

The “automatic creations” is one of our favorite choices, actually bringing photos and videos to life with automatically created movies, collages, animations, and more. If you want, Google Photos even gives you the ability to create those yourself.

2) Amazon Photos

If you don’t mind tying in the Cloud into your photos, you cannot go wrong with Amazon Photos either. Just like Google Photos, Amazon Photos can Auto-Save your photos and videos from your phone, so they get backed up automatically. Once your photos are stored in Amazon Photos, you can delete them from your device to make room on your phone, just like Google Photos!

Amazon Photos is a free photo storage app that can help you keep your photos and videos safe; however, it is most ideal for folks that already have an Amazon Prime subscription. Amazon Prime members get free unlimited photo storage, plus 5GB video storage as part of their Prime membership. However, if you do not have an Amazon Prime subscription, you’re going to need to get one.

The one benefit to that is that Amazon Photos will allow you to share your unlimited photo storage benefit with five other people by adding those people to the Family Vault.

One of our favorite features of the app is the memories portion. It can show you what happened on this day, one year ago, or two years ago, and so on, so long as there was a photo taken that long ago. It’s an excellent way to go down memory lane!

One of the other cool features about Amazon Photos is that, because of its intelligent AI, you can effortlessly search and bring up photos by keyword. Type in “dog” or “sunset,” and Amazon Photos will show you your photos and videos related to those keywords.

3) Piktures

Enter, the aptly named Piktures gallery app. This is primarily a photo gallery first, but within that, Piktures has a built-in photo editor, as well as Cloud integration. One of our favorite things about Piktures is just how beautifully designed the app is. It’s straightforward to look at your photos, and Piktures organizes it all in a way that makes it easy to find specific photos, too.

Additionally, Piktures has a unique gesture-based experience that makes it easy to sort through your photos. Piktures also supports a Secure Drive, which allows you to password protect specific photos and albums.

Piktures uses your system storage; however, you can hook your Cloud service of choice up to Piktures, and then upload and backup photos and videos to the Cloud that way. Cloud storage still isn’t free this way, so you will have to make sure that, in whatever service you use, you have enough storage space to back up all of your photos.

4) Slidebox

Next up, we’re looking at a gallery app for Android called Slidebox. This gallery app allows you to organize your photos through gestures. You can scroll through your photos in fullscreen, and swipe up to delete unwanted photos or pick an album to sort into. They take gesture-based swiping a little bit further, allowing you to compare similar or duplicate photos. Then, you can quickly delete them with a simple swipe. It’s so easy!

For sorting into albums, you can choose an album at the bottom to sort a photo into. Slidebox allows you to add an existing collection from your gallery easily, or you can create a new one right within Slidebox to keep your photos organized.

Slidebox says that all photos and albums are organized directly in the Android system’s gallery, so albums that you mess around with and still sort with Slidebox should all still work great with any of your existing apps and services.

That said, it’s worth noting that Slidebox does not copy or duplicate your photos or albums. If you delete a photo in your stock Android gallery, it won’t be accessible from Slidebox. On top of that, if you delete a photo or album from Slidebox, it won’t be accessible from your Android photo gallery, either.

5) Gallery Go

Coming up last on our countdown, but certainly not least, we have Gallery Go. This is yet another one from Google, and it has a ton of similarities to Google Photos. While Google Photos is very Internet-heavy, Gallery Go was optimized to work offline. Working off-line e, Gallery Go can manage all of your photos and videos without using up all your data.

Gallery Go is beneficial for folks that are more concerned about data. If you don’t have vast amounts of data available or are in areas where the service is spotty, Gallery Go is an excellent gallery for preserving your data plan.

Gallery Go is still very similar to Google Photos —  for example, Gallery Go again automatically organizes your photos to groups, usually sorting by People, Selfies, Nature, Animals, Documents, Videos, and Movies. That makes it so much easier to be able to find that one photo that you wanted to show your family and friends.
