Amazon Adds Paypal as a Payment Option to Buy With Prime

Amazon Expands Buy with Prime with PayPal Payment Option

In a significant move to enhance the shopping experience for its Prime members, Amazon announced on Wednesday that it is integrating PayPal as a checkout option for its Buy with Prime feature. This development allows Prime customers to use PayPal when purchasing items from participating merchants' websites, further expanding the convenience and flexibility of the Buy with Prime program.

Key Details of the Integration

  • Immediate Availability: Starting immediately, Prime members can use PayPal to check out on websites that have integrated the Buy with Prime API. This means that shoppers can now leverage their PayPal accounts to complete transactions on third-party e-commerce sites that offer Buy with Prime.
  • Future Account Linking: Beginning next year, Prime members will have the option to perform a one-time link of their Amazon account to their PayPal account. This linkage will enable Prime free, fast shipping benefits to be automatically applied whenever they use PayPal while shopping with Buy with Prime on participating merchants’ websites.
  • Growth Metrics: The Buy with Prime program has seen substantial growth since its launch in April 2022. Orders through the service have increased by more than 45% year-over-year, and there has been a 16% average increase in revenue per shopper for merchants offering Buy with Prime.
  • Merchant Benefits: The integration of PayPal into Buy with Prime is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to help merchants grow and scale their businesses across various sales channels. Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF), which allows merchants to leverage Amazon’s fulfillment network for orders from their own websites, other marketplaces, and social media channels, has also seen significant growth. MCF now serves over 200,000 U.S. merchants and has experienced a 70% year-over-year increase in total orders fulfilled.

Additional Enhancements to Buy with Prime

  • Real-Time Delivery Estimates: Amazon is introducing real-time delivery estimates in TikTok ads for Buy with Prime merchants, enhancing the shopping experience by providing shoppers with clear visibility into delivery times early in their shopping journey.
  • Combined Checkout on Shopify: Shoppers can now purchase items with Prime and without Prime in a single checkout on Shopify stores, extending the functionality of the Buy with Prime app for Shopify.
  • Faster Delivery Options: Amazon MCF is speeding up its Standard Delivery option from 5 business days to 3 business days at no extra cost to merchants, further improving the delivery experience for customers.

Impact on Merchants and Shoppers

The addition of PayPal as a payment option and the other enhancements to Buy with Prime are designed to drive traffic and increase sales for merchants. By leveraging the trust and recognition of the Prime brand, merchants can offer faster, more reliable shipping options, which has been shown to increase shopper conversion rates. For example, sports apparel company NXTRND saw an 8.9% increase in revenue after using Amazon MCF delivery estimates.

This move underscores Amazon’s commitment to providing a seamless and convenient shopping experience for its Prime members while supporting the growth and scalability of its merchant partners.
