Note 4 Network Signal Drops

Problem: Galaxy note 4, since updating to marshmallow my signal drops from 4g to barely 3g then nothing. This is a constant issue all day long. Powering off to get signal back, airplane mode, turning mobile data off and on, and removing the battery for long periods ( more to keep me from throwing it at a wall). I kill all apps. I check what’s using data. I’ve disabled apps hard wired I don’t use. I’ve disabled background things from running. It’s a miracle to get one bar of 4G sitting with others who maintain several. I’m unable to watch a video before it drops so low…connection failure…you’re not connected…

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this type of problem is if this is caused by coverage issues. Try going to different location and check if the issue still occurs. If the problem does not occur when you are in a different location then the problem could be caused by poor network coverage.

Another possible factor that can cause this issue is a network activity that’s affecting the signal. Try to contact your service provider to verify if this is the case.

Once you have eliminated the above factors and the issue still occurs then it’s time to troubleshoot the phone. Perform the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the isuse still occur after performing a step.

  • Check if the issue occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. When your phone is started in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if you are getting a stable and strong mobile data signal in this mode. If you are then the problem could be caused by a third party app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary system data of the phone which could sometimes cause this problem.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This is a highly recommended troubleshooting step that should be done whenever issues occur after a factory reset. What this does is it deletes the old software data that might not have been completely removed and is causing a conflict with the new software version.

Note 4 Unlocked Verizon Internet Not Working On AT&T Network

Problem: I have what is suppose to be an unlocked note 4 that I had on verizon ( bought it used from a Verizon rep) that I have switched over to att. The phone works perfect as far as receiving and sending calls and text but if you go on anything that involves the Internet it says you are offline. I have taken it to the att store and they made sure everything was right on the phone and the account. I’m at a loss now on what to do since I can only have Internet when hooked to wifi. Also when you pull down the status bar it says Sim card is not from verizon. Please help and thank you

Solution: To be able to connect to your mobile data subscription try to double check on the APN settings of your phone and make sure that it is using the AT&T settings and not the Verizon settings. You should also go to the network mode settings of your phone and set it to Global. Manually set the network to AT&T as well from the network operator settings. Check if your phone can now connect to the Internet.

If you are still having a problem using your mobile data connection then try to start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if you can go online in this mode. If you can then the problem is most likely caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step you should consider to fix this issue is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Note 4 Some Apps Not Connecting to The Internet

Problem: Hey, I found your website and was hoping that you could help me with this internet connectivity issue on LTE. Sometimes (a lot of times) for some reason some webpages don’t load on any browser, the Twitter app won’t load, but bizarrely things like Google.com seems to work very fine, and even YouTube app works fine. But some of the other apps won’t connect, and the mobile data icon’s uploading and downloading arrows on the notification bar keep going on and off, one at a time or both together, while I attempt to reload the web page or refresh my Twitter or Instagram feed. Also after restarting the phone, everything works well until after about 10 mins or so, and then again things don’t work. Thanks for reading and hope you reply soon before this drives me crazy, because this is mind-numbingly frustrating. Regards.

Solution: Try clearing the cache and data of the apps that have a problem going online from the application manager. This deletes the temporary data of the app which could be causing the problem. You should also follow this up by wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.

If the issue still occurs then try to check if an app you recently installed is causing the problem. To do this you have to start the phone in Safe Mode. Only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the issues doesn’t occur in this mode then an app you downloaded is the most likely culprit. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step you should consider should the above steps fail is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Note 4 Wi-Fi Randomly Disconnects

Problem: My problem is that when I am in the middle of playing a game and there is no wifi available all of a sudden it stops and says do you want to connect to xfinity wifi or some other service. In order to do that it wants a password I do not have because I do not have that service. I just want it to stop asking me and interrupting me when I am playing a game or on facebook reading something. It is quite annoying. I hope I explained this correctly.

Solution: What you need to do first in this case is to check if the router that you are connecting to is causing the problem. Try to check if the issue occurs when your phone is connected to a different Wi-Fi network. Once you have eliminated the router as the possible cause to this problem it’s time to troubleshoot the phone by following the steps listed below. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Forget the Wi-Fi connection from your phone then connect to it again.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then an app installed in your phone could be causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary system data.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Freezes When Turning On Wi-Fi

Problem: My phone freezes when I try to turn on my Wi fi. Every other function connects and works but when I touch the Wi fi link the phone freezes. It used to automatically connect to my modem at home, now I can’t even turn it on to try to connect. I’ve tried rebooting, etc and everything on the phone functions except the Wi fi.

Solution: Try to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this could already be a hardware related problem. If this is the case then you should have your phone checked at a service center.
