Note 4 Won’t Update to Marshmallow

Problem: My phone won’t update to marshmallow , It says my phone is up to date, last install 11/2015. I bought the phone used in excellent condition. I am probably in need of a new battery, it does run down fast when I use some apps. Like from 80%-32% when using a simple app or game for 20min.I am also on Metro PCS, but my phone is a Tmobile and metro uses Tmobile air service. Screwed up because I also can’t use the Tmobile   apps in the phone even though I can’t turn some of them off/disable.. Thank you

Solution: The most likely reason why this is happening is that the phone is checking for the update on the T-Mobile servers. Since the device is now running on MetroPCS then it won’t be able to access the T-Mobile servers. This is also the same reason why you are unable to use the T-Mobile specific apps in your device. The best way to deal with this issue is to insert a T-Mobile SIM to the phone then do the upgrade.

You can also try to use Kies or Smart Switch to check for the software update. This is done by connecting your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running. Once your phone is detected you will get a prompt regarding an update that is available.

If the above steps fail to update your device then you should consider flashing the updated stock firmware your phone. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular android forums online.

Note 4 AT&T No Software Update Available

Problem: Note4 on at&t network won’t upgrade past 4.4.4. Can’t get much context using vr headset cause operating system is old. Always says there are no updates but I know there is one. Please assist

Solution: There are several reasons why your phone is not getting the update. If your phone is rooted then it won’t be getting the official update from AT&T. If your phone is running on a custom software then it also won’t be getting the update.

If your phone isn’t rooted or running on a custom software yet you are unable to get any updates then try to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done try to check if you are now able to update your phone.

If no updates are found using the OTA method then try to connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running. Use the software to check for any available updates for your phone.

If the above steps fail to update your phone software then you should consider flashing the phone firmware. Instruction on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 No Marshmallow Update Available

Problem: Received notification to update to 6.0 Marshmallow. Declined as was not ready. Phone apparently tried to update operating software by itself. Got message “Software not updated to N910VVRU2CPD1. Failed” – then date and “Error code: 553”. Now says phone is up to date on 5.1.1 with no update available. Cleared system cache, apps cache, deleted items for more available memory, took out battery, rebooted etc. still getting this message and no Marshmallow available. Cannot find out why. Thank you for letting me know what it could be.

Solution: This issue could be caused by a glitch in the phone software. Try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check first what software version your phone is running on. If it is still on Lollipop then check for the update using the OTA method. If no update is available then connect your phone using a USB cord to a computer with Kies or Smart Switch running. Once your phone is detected by the software you will receive a prompt if an update is available.

Note 4 Unresponsive After Marshmallow Update

Problem: I had a few good days after installing Marshmallow on my 1.5 year old Note 4, however it is now very unresponsive. The unlock pin, text input, opening applications, black screen, freezing, and during all and any of these operations, random crashes and shutdowns. Amongst this, my battery went from 100% at 8am, to 29% 9am, then shut down at 14% moments later. Needless to say, this is a major issue for a busy business phone. I’d love to rollback the OS! I’ve uninstalled numerous apps, disabled dozens more. Right now, I’m typing this and it’s fine. 5 min prior I was struggling with another freeze trying to unlock it. Wish me luck if nothing else.

Solution: It Look like this issue is caused by some form of data that is conflicting with the new software version. Have you tried to check if any of your apps have an update available? Since the phone is coming from Lollipop then the apps installed in your phone could still be optimized to work on Lollipop and not on Marshmallow. Open the Google Play Store then go to the My Apps section. From here you will see a list of apps that need updating. Update these apps.

If your apps are already updated and the issue still occurs then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. If this still fails to resolve the problem then your last option is to backup your phone data and do a factory reset.

Note 4 Not Turning On After Marshmallow Update

Problem: We had the os upgraded to marshmallow but after we had it updated my cellphone eventually had this issue of not completing the turn on process. Everytime i turn it on it just showed the welcome portion and it shuts down and restart again automatically doing the same process again. My phone is samsung note 4 and this issue started after i upgraded the os. Hope u can help me. thanx

Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it has then try taking it out then turn on your phone. You should also check if your phone is able to turn on in Safe Mode. If the phone boots in this mode then it’s possible that the problem is caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If your phone does not start in Safe Mode then you will have to start the phone in recovery mode. From here you need to do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so do this only if you have a backup copy of your data.
