ZTE Nubia Z5 Is World’s Thinnest Phablet To Date

The newly-launched ZTE Nubia Z5 has taken the title of the world’s thinnest phablet. The smartphone measures only 7.5 mm at its thickest point, beating other thin phablets like the Oppo Find 5, which measures 8.8 mm thin, the HTC Butterfly, which is 9.08 mm thin, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which is 9.44 mm thin.

ZTE officially launched the smartphone in Beijing China one day after Christmas, despite earlier rumors that it would be launching last December 21st. Allegedly, the launch date was postponed due to the release of the Meizu MX2 last December 19th or the delay of the arrival of the Qualcomm S4 processor.

The Nubia Z5, ZTE’s flagship phone targeted at the high end market segment, is the first smartphone in the Nubia product line.

It is available in two color options: black and white. Its display is a capacitive touchscreen by Sharp that spans 5 inches diagonally, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, and a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch.

It also features an aluminium unibody that has dimensions of 5.43 inches in length, 2.71 inches in width, and 0.3 inch in depth. It tips the scale at only 4.44 oz, making it fairly lightweight as compared to many other smartphones on the market today.

Under the hood, the phablet comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor. Also onboard is 2GB of memory plus 32GB of internal storage.

Its main camera packs a 13-megapixel sensor, LED flash, panorama and continuous shooting modes. This is complemented by a front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video chat.

The smartphone also offers Dolby sound, and a private cloud service for backup.

It retails for 3,456 yuan or about US $554.26. This makes it less expensive than 32GB model of the Oppo Find 5, although the two smartphones have similar specifications, down to the 5-inch display, the quad-core processor, the 13-megapixel main camera, and the 2GB of RAM available.

The Nubia Z5 will officially hit the Chinese market in January, along with a limited-edition titanium version of the phone. According to CNET, it appears that the smartphone will not be made available in the United States.
