What to do if your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge turned off and won’t boot up successfully, other system issues

One of the problems I addressed in this post is about the #Samsung #GalaxyS6Edge that, according to our reader, turned off after the display got distorted and since then it just keeps on boot looping. This case is difficult to crack because it might be a hardware problem or just a firmware glitch. But read on to know what to do in case it happens to you.


I also included other system related issues that may also occur to anyone who owns the Edge including the security error that pops up when the device’s security service detects the firmware being modified or customized. Here’s the list of the problems…

S6 Edge screen got distorted then turned off and entered boot loop

Problem: I was watching something on YouTube, then the screen randomly distorted and turned off. Its now in a constant loop on the ‘Samsung Edge S6 Edge’ boot screen. Unless something was sent to my phone, I didn’t update any firmware or go into any reboot settings.

Troubleshooting: It might have been just a system crash and might have corrupted some caches or data. In a bid to prevent all the hassles of backing up your data, try booting the phone in safe mode first:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge’ appears, immediately release the Power key and then press and hold the Volume Down button.
  4. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the phone finishes the restart.
  5. When you see Safe Mode on the lower left corner of the screen, release the button.

If the phone can successful boot in this mode, there’s a chance it can successfully boot normally. If not, then try deleting all the system caches by following these steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problem remained after wiping the cache partition, there’s a chance the cause of the problem is in the hardware itself. It is impossible to backup all your data when the phone itself can’t boot up. However, it is imperative you try doing the master reset to find out if the problem will be fixed by bringing the phone back to its default settings. If not, then you need someone who can further check the device.

How to perform Master Reset on Galaxy S6 Edge

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

“Security Error: This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked.”

Problem: Hi, I just got my phone in the summer of 2015. It has been working well, although there are problems with the battery life. However, just today my phone won’t turn on when I just used it 5 seconds ago. I tried restarting it but it displays on the screen: Security error with a bright blue screen. I tried the power, volume up, home button procedure but it just turned black. What is the problem and is it fixable? Thank you so much.

Answer: I am almost certain that when you dial (if you still can) *#06# the IMEI is gone. This prompt can be tripped by unsuccessful rooting process and/or custom ROM flashing. If you didn’t do it, then you need help from your provider, however, if it occurred because you modified something, then you should know you messed up your phone’s EFS folder. It’s not a problem if you made a backup prior to doing what you were doing but if not, then you need someone who knows how to restore the IMEI or the entire EFS folder. And no, flashing the stock firmware won’t fix this issue.

Galaxy S6 Edge screen is black after filming a video

Problem: Was filming a video and then put it on the table came back 2 hours later to a black screen. Have since tried all soft and hard reboots to no luck. Tried plugging in to genuine charger and nothing. Please help. I think its a warranty job.

Related Problem: My phone was in great condition has not been dropped or no water damage. It was working just fine last night before I went to sleep, woke up and the screen was black and the home and back key were flashing. Can not get the screen to come back on. I do see the green light as to show that my phone is completely charged but the screen is completely black how can I fix this issue?

Answer: The good thing is you can always claim for warranty. However, you will have to go through all the hassles of explaining to the tech what happened and will be asked questions until the provider is satisfied and have the device replaced or fixed without any charges.

If your phone didn’t suffer from either liquid or physical damage, then there’s a chance it was just a system crash.

Just leave the phone plugged in for ten minutes just to make sure there’s enough battery to power up the hardware and then press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys together for 10 to 15 seconds. If it was just a crash, the device will reboot if not, then use the warranty.

Galaxy S6 Edge started to freeze for quick second when using third-party cable

Problem: Hey, I recently broke my first chargers wire (not the base, just the wire). After, I bought a long wire one eBay. It was very cheap, and ever since I ordered it, my phone has been freezing for a quick second and lagging. Should I buy a new charger from Verizon? Or is it too late where I won’t be able to make my phone faster? Please help.

Answer: It might just be a coincidence that a performance-related issue started by the time you started using a third-party USB cable. If the device was just charging fine with the cable, then there’s no problem with it. However, you still need to know what’s causing the freezing so I suggest you boot your Edge in safe mode to find out if the issue still occurs there. If not, then find the app that’s causing it and uninstall it, otherwise, all you need to do is backup your data and factory reset your phone.

How to Factory Reset Galaxy S6 Edge

  1. Tap Apps from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. From the Settings screen, scroll down to and tap Backup and reset.
  4. Scroll down to and tap Factory data reset.
  5. Read the Factory data reset details and tap Reset device to continue.
  6. Finally, tap Erase everything to initiate a hard reset on your device. Wait until the reset is complete and your phone is now reset to factory defaults.

S6 Edge can’t detect SIM card after being dropped in water

Problem: I dropped my phone in water for only a matter if seconds everything on the phone works fine the only thing is it is now not reading my SIM card at all just says there isn’t one entered at all?? But I have replaced the something tray and also used the SIM card in other phones and it does work I just wondered if there was anything I could do to get the phone to read my SIM card again? Thanks.

Answer: We don’t know for sure why the phone is acting up like this but if the issue started shortly after it fell into the water (even for a few seconds), it’s probably still be water damage, although it’s minor.

Try removing the SIM card and blow dry the SIM card slot and then try inserting it again to see if it could somehow detect it. If not, then you need a technician to do further troubleshooting.

S6 Edge shows overheating warning even if it’s not heating up after it fell into the water

Problem: I dropped my phone in a bucket of water, it works fine just says at the device is overheating. It’s not hot at all its cold, won’t let me use any of my apps because it’s over heating. I can’t even go to my settings. Hope you can help.

Answer: It looks like water has found its way into the phone and messed up one of the chips. We really can’t predict what will happen to the device it’s submerged in the water even for a second or two. But I suggest you immediately turn off your phone, don’t charge it yet, and see a technician about it.

Water damage left the phone dead and won’t turn on

Problem: Hi. So my phone fell in the toilet on Sunday as soon as it happened it took it out and wipe the phone off. When I got home I put my phone in a bowl of rice so that it could dry up the moisture that was left. After a day I tried to turn on my phone but it wouldn’t. When i plugged it into the charger it shows the battery symbol with 0% then I turned on my phone but as soon as it starts up it just shuts off right away. There were pictures that I took on Sunday that didn’t to get to back up and I’m trying to get them but the phone just wont turn on for the life of me. So is the phone done? and how will I get my pictures.

Answer: You will only recover your pictures when you can make the phone to turn on. If it charges or responds whenever it’s plugged, then there’s still a chance you can bring it to life again. Just leave it in a bowl of rice for yet another day just to make sure the moist is absorbed by the grains. After that, leave it plugged in for several minutes and then attempt to turn it on again. If it’s still not responding, then let a technician handle it.
