Verizon Relaunching V-Cast Apps As Verizon Apps

The Verizon Developer’s Conference in Las Vegas ends today and we have a team on the ground covering all the goodness.  One of the big things to come out of the VDC is the fact that Verizon is changing the name of it’s online app store and revamping that entire part of the business.  Verizon’s V-Cast App Store will now be known as Verizon Apps.

Verizon Apps will run as a complimentary service to the Android Market which is already pre-installed on all Google approved Android devices. The Verizon Apps store will feature Verizon’s signature and proprietary apps like their NFL app along with recommended apps that are either optimized for Droid branded devices or that have been vetted through Verizon’s, Verizon Apps, vetting process.

More after the break

Verizon is partnering with CHOMP who will provide the search engine for the service. Verizon’s V-Cast service never caught on the way they had hoped. It may have been time to rework the V-Cast name as it’s been around since the days of just ring tones and wallpaper on feature phones.  Verizon added the iPhone to their portfolio mix last February but you won’t see any iOS apps int he Verizon Apps store as Apple doesn’t allow third party app stores to compete with the iOS app store which is technically part of iTunes.
