Unfazed by the bend tests online, Samsung posts its own bend test video for the Galaxy S6

Galaxy S6 Bend Test

Last week, SquareTrade posted a video demonstration testing out the durability of the Samsung Galaxy S6. This has obviously irked Samsung as the Korean manufacturer has issued a video rebuttal to last week’s test, while claiming that it was not done under the right circumstances.

According to SquareTrade, the test was not conducted under regular situations which an every day user would encounter. Further clarifying its point, Samsung said – “Our internal test results indicate that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are not bendable even under 79lbf, which is equivalent to putting pressure to snap a bundle of five pencils at once.”

The company also asked SquareTrade to make another video with the screen of the smartphone facing down, which will apparently have a different impact on the durability test. It will be interesting to see if SquareTrade will give-in to Samsung’s request and conduct yet another test with the aforementioned conditions.

In any case, we have to mention that the Galaxy S6 is in no way a weak phone. So these tests don’t really make a difference as the smartphone is pretty capable of sustaining significant pressure without bending.

  1. It is pretty obvious that the attempt to make ever thinner devices is bringing all manufacturers dangerously close to the limits of current materials and assembly technologies. The right way to make these devices thinner from here on is to pursue a number of technology options:

    1) use of stronger materials
    2) lamination of all components, possibly using a structural core layer
    3) use of bendable technologies (the latter is a limited option in my mind).

  2. Well in my humble opinion it is impossible that a normal weighted person can bend the S6/Edge. I think that those Apple Fans just wanted to get vengance from the “¬∑iPhone bendgate”

  3. Until I wait:

You know what to do with the (DOT)
    30kg < 50kg
    iPhone 6 < Galaxy S6
