T-Mobile’s 600 MHz 5G Spectrum Will Reportedly Cover 200 Million People by the End in 2024

Just as Sprint announced covering 16 million people with 5G across nine U.S. markets, T-Mobile now has some good news of its own. The company has announced that its 600 MHz 5G spectrum will cover 200 million people before the end of 2020. Unfortunately, T-Mobile hasn’t mentioned which markets will be getting 600 MHz bands. The company elaborates that it has been working on building the infrastructure of 5G-ready towers and dedicated cellular sites around the U.S.

As of now, T-Mobile’s reach in the U.S. is limited to six markets including New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Cleveland, and Atlanta. However, coverage is only available in some parts of these markets, so its reach is fairly limited as of now. It is important to point out that T-Mobile currently uses the millimeter wave or mmWave spectrum which offers snappy speeds but less coverage. The 600 MHz spectrum, on the other hand, offers slightly slower speeds but can offer better coverage while also going through buildings for a better range indoors.

In other news, T-Mobile also announced the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition as an exclusive on its network. This phone will be the second on its network to run on the aforementioned 600 MHz spectrum along with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G. So it’s pretty clear that the carrier is bracing for this new 5G rollout with the addition of new smartphones. Carriers like Verizon and AT&T are also building their 5G infrastructure significantly to brace for 2020.
