The LG Optimus 4X HD Review

Do not get your hopes up too high, the [easyazon-link asin=”B00699C0X6″ locale=”us”]LG Optimus[/easyazon-link] 4X HD is not on the American market yet.  But there is light at the end of the tunnel though.  This smartphone has already or is soon to land in 11 countries in Europe.  There is currently no official word on when it is expected to get to the US market, if ever, but it will based on the attention that the local market gave the Optimus G2X (internationally called the Optimus 2X).  Although the G2X had tons of bugs and it failed to win critical acclaim, customers appreciated the good side of the phone and hope that the 4X HD will be a fix for all the bugs the G2X came with.

The Optimus 4X HD is LG’s answer to the new Galaxy SIII super-smartphone.  Although it is not a superphone in a holistic sense, the 4X is the most formidable competitor to Samsung’s SIII based on its features and performance specifications.  The core features of the Optimus 4X are an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor (1.5 GHz), NVIDIA GeForce ULP GPU, HSPA+ 21Mbps data capability, Android 4.0.3 OS with Optimus UI 3.0, 4.7″ TrueHD (312DPI) IPS LCD 720×1280 display and 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage (12GB usable).  Other features include 8MP rear and 1.3MP front cameras, 2150mAh removable battery and MicroSD card slot. The phone is retailing at  a price of €500 (about $625 US).

The notable downsides of this Android smartphone is that although it has a great display, the viewing angles are awful because it is way below the bezel glass,  there are reports that the 4X’s signal reception fluctuates a lot and the rear camera has focusing problems.  The 4X HD may be the second most favored Android smartphone but LG will have to improve on a few performance issues to give Samsung a run for its money.

As LG rolls out this great phone, fingers are crossed as to when it will hit the US market. I guess we will have to just wait and see.
