Verizon launches White Droid Ultra and Droid Mini smartphones

Droid Mini - Droid Ultra White

Droid Mini - Droid Ultra WhiteThe Verizon Droid Ultra and Droid Mini were rumored to be getting White paintjobs a few days ago and the day has finally come. The carrier is now offering the two Motorola smartphones in a new shiny White avatar. As we expected, the entire chassis is now white, so the smartphone is white all around. There’s not much to differentiate between the two smartphones apart from the size, so the hardware is pretty similar.

Verizon is offering the smartphones for the same price with the Droid Mini costing $49.99 on contract and $399.99 off contract or $16.81 if bought through Verizon Edge. The Droid Ultra will cost $99.99 with a two year agreement or $18.97 through Verizon Edge and $449.99 off contract. It’s rather strange that there’s no white variant of the Droid Maxx smartphone, especially since it’s one of the most sought after handsets in Verizon’s Droid lineup. But we are hopeful that Motorola will eventually launch the White Droid Maxx as well. The Droid smartphones pack a very similar specs sheet as the Moto X but with added Verizon branding and other cosmetic changes.

Verizon LG G2 in White leaks out ahead of its official availability

White LG G2 Verizon

The LG G2 on Verizon is one of the most unique variants available in the U.S. as it features a slightly different design on the back, mainly with the rear buttons. However, this variant has been available only in the standard black variant while the rest of the carriers sold a White variant as well. But that will soon change as the carrier will be launching a White variant of the smartphone in the coming days. And now we have a glimpse of that variant thanks to renowned Twitter source Evleaks. The variant is no different from the standard black variant in terms of design, so we know what to expect.

It’s a tad surprising that it took this long for Verizon to launch a White variant of the smartphone. The handset is expected to be launched in the coming days, possibly for $149.99 on contract. Although third party retailers like Amazon are offering the smartphone for as low as $0.01.

White Nexus 4 Poses For The Camera Again, Google I/O Announcement In The Cards

I’ve been trying really hard for the past 12 hours or so to hunt down an Android story unrelated to Google’s I/O event set to take place later this week, but there’s simply nothing out there. Nada. Zilch. You know, except for Sony’s attempts to make people even more confused about the Xperia family, which we already covered.

Thankfully, there’s so much in the rumor mill regarding what Google could bring in San Francisco for this year’s I/O that, even if there were other stories around, we’d probably ignore them to talk more about the X Phone, second-gen Nexus 7, LTE-enabled N4, LTE-enabled N7, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, 5.0 Key Lime Pie, Google smartwatch and, last but not least, white Nexus 4.

Nexus 4

Wait, did anybody say “white Nexus 4”? Yes, I did, even though the thing did appear to be an internet hoax and nothing more for a second there. Or more like for three months, but you get the idea.

The first time we spotted what looked like a snowy LG/Google Nexus 4 was back when snow was in fact a very used word in our vocabulary – near January’s end. The snazzy device smiled nicely for a Vietnamese camera, but in lack of subsequent confirmation or further proof of its existence we were just about ready to file it under shameful fakes.

Only now the handheld is back to haunt us (in a pleasant way, obviously), again courtesy of pics shot in Asia. The white N4 did however move a little in the past three months, crossing the South China Sea that separates Vietnam from the Philippines.

A Google+ user around those latter parts going by the name of Ervin Sue posted the device’s new photos, “forgetting” to mention how he got ahold of the white N4. What he did do is link to the #io and #io13 hashtags, which could mean he has inside scoop the new phone will be showcased in San Francisco this week.

Either that, or he’s just making a (very logical) assumption. In any case, what we’re dealing with here is a Nexus 4 with a white and sparkly (in a certain angle) back and pitch black front, most likely replicating all the specs of the original LG-made Nexus phone. Save maybe for the storage and connectivity options, given recent rumors that Google is looking to bring an N4 rehash with 32 GB of memory and LTE.

As for pricing, if the “new” Nexus does come with 4G speeds and double the storage of the original, it will probably raise the bar to around $400 outright. But enough with the “coulds”, “maybes” and “probablys” and let’s just wait the extra couple of days until I/O’s debut. We’ll be here to report on everything that goes down at the conference, so stay with us.

No one quite understands why people just love a white phone. After all white phones are harder to keep clean. Whatever the attraction, Samsung is responded. Samsung will start offering a white version of the Galaxy S II.  According to Pocketnow, Clove, a UK wireless phone retailer will start selling a white version of the Samsung Galaxy S II in mid August.

Alternative white battery plate for the Incredible?

White Android phones are on their way. the White EVO at Best Buy, the Motorola Droid 2 R2D2, and now the HTCIncredible? Sort of. Leaked photos on The Droid Life this morning revealed an alternative battery plate from HTC showing all white. While cases and third party replacements already exist for several phones, an alternate option from the manufacturer sure is nice in theory.

The back of the phone is really nice looking. The white battery cover is a fresh change of pace for a mostly dark lineup of Android phones. The front of the phone, however, remains unchanged. For many, this sharp contrast between white and black creates a jarring visual experience that mankes the phone less desirable. Should it be all white or nothing at all? How do you feel about manufacturers releasing multiple color options for their handsets?
