Time Warner Cable will reportedly offer live TV through Apple TV

Apple and Time Warner Cable are reportedly very close to hashing out a deal allowing existing TWC customers to watch live TV through the Apple TV. This will be the biggest Apple TV deal yet, with 300 channels coming to the Apple TV.

This deal will not be an extra add on for Apple TV customers, for users to gain access to the Time Warner Cable programming, they must already have a subscription on TWC with the cable provider. This has been done many times with HBO and ESPN also offering out apps for existing subscribers, but only through the cable provider.

Time Warner Cable already offers out their service to the rival Roku set top box, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console and on Android and iOS. We believe Apple is trying to grab as many content providers as they can, possibly for the release of the Apple HDTV.

Time Warner To Offer Streaming Video To Subscribers On Android 4.0 Soon

Time Warner’s Director of Digital Communication, Jeff Simmermon, took to Twitter on Wednesday to calm rumors that Time Warner Cable was going to start streaming video to their customers. Time Warner already offers customers streaming video on iOS devices and hopes to start offering the service to customers with Android devices by the end of the first quarter.

The only caveat is that for right now the Time Warner app for streaming will only be available to Android handsets running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Of course, many of you remember back to when Netflix was first released for a select number of Gingerbread devices. It was quickly hacked and made available to all devices. Soon after, Netflix released their original app for any devices with Android 2.2 or better.

We’ll see what happens at the end of March.
