Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Problems and Questions About Lollipop Update [Part 4]

Straight-Talk-Galaxy-S4-4

We did receive a lot of questions about the availability of Android 5 Lollipop update for Samsung Galaxy S4 but as of now, major carriers in the U.S. didn’t provide an exact date as to when they would start seeding the update. There were also reports that lollipop is buggy that’s why Samsung stopped seeding it in Europe. So, we really can’t do a thing but wait until it becomes available for download.

The following problems were sent to us through email by our readers who also happened to be Straight Talk subscribers. As you know, ST doesn’t have a good online community like any other wireless providers. Well, they have one forum but users are often advised to privately contact their reps to be given instructions on how to fix their problems. Therefore, we found it necessary to publish posts like this even if we already have more than 60 parts of our Samsung Galaxy S4 Troubleshooting series.

For those who have just tuned in, we offer free Android support to our readers. You can send us your questions and problems via email at [email protected] or post on our Facebook wall and/or Google+ page.

When will ST Galaxy S4 receive lollipop update?

Q1: Hi guys. I have a Galaxy S4 phone and it is under Straight Talk. I just want to ask when lollipop update will arrive. It’s barely a year old but I haven’t received any updates yet. Thanks. — Heidi

Q2: I own a Straight Talk Galaxy S4 and so far, my experiences were all good. So, my question is, will there be a lollipop update for this phone?

Q3: Hello. I tried calling Straight Talk tech support to ask about the lollipop update for my Galaxy S4 but the representative said there will be none. Is it true?

Q4: My Straight Talk Galaxy S4 started to slow down in its performance since last quarter last year. Will lollipop update fix this problem? Thanks.

Q5: Hi droid guy. Do you have any idea if my Straight Talk Galaxy S4 will receive Android 5.1lollipop? Thanks.

Answer: Hi guys! Android 5 Lollipop is definitely coming to Samsung Galaxy S4 but the exact time when it will be rolled out in the U.S. hasn’t been confirmed yet. Users in Europe reported that the roll out already started, although, just recently, there was a report suggesting the update brings a lot of performance issues and bugs so the roll out has been put on hold and there’s no definite time as to when Samsung will resume the seeding.

So, it is expected that the update in the U.S. may be even more delayed than it already is. But for Straight Talk subscribers, we doubt that the update will reach your phone any time soon. It is because Straight Talk doesn’t support firmware updates and upgrades. You may need help from Samsung techs to get your phone updated to the latest firmware.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Drains Battery Faster

Problem: This is John, and i have a Samsung Galaxy S4 for almost a year now. I noticed the issue for almost a week when the battery of my phone starts to drain fast even if i’m not using it. And also, there’s an instance after I used it the back portion of my phone is hot. How can I fix it?

Troubleshooting: With regards to your issue John, there are a lot of factors we need to consider why you’re having a problem like that. These are the most common troubleshooting procedures that will help you know what the problem is all about.

  • Simply close those apps that you’re not using, or those that are running in the background, to minimize power usage.
  • Disable wireless communications like mobile data, WiFi and Bluetooth if not in use.
  • Adjust the screen brightness to a lower level and if possible turn off syncs.

After that, reboot your phone in Safe mode and observe if the issue persists. If it doesn’t, then the issue was caused by a third-party app or a group of apps. Know what these apps are and disable or uninstall them.

If all else failed, it is necessary to perform full hard reset before sending the phone in for repair:

  1. Switch your phone off.
  2. Hold down the Power, Volume Up and Home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. Release them when the Android logo appears on the screen. This will bring up the unlock/reset menu.
  3. To navigate through this menu, use the volume up/down buttons to scroll up and down and the power button to confirm selections.
  4. Scroll down and select Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  5. Scroll down and select Yes – Delete All User Data.
  6. When prompted, scroll to and select Reboot System Now. The phone will then reboot to its factory settings.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Freezes While Adding Contacts

Problem: Hello guys, I’m with straight talk for 6 months now and I have Galaxy S4. The issue started after I updated my phone’s software to android 4.3. However, 3 days after i noticed that i cannot anymore add phone numbers to my contacts. Every time i create a new contact my phone just freezes. This is the first time I encountered issue like this. How can I fix it? — Mark

Troubleshooting: Well, your issue seems like there’s a problem between the Android 4.3 and your contact apps. First thing first, you need to do reboot your phone if you haven’t done so. After that, simply go to Settings˃ Application Manager˃ All tab˃ Contacts. Then Tap Close Force first, and then Clear Cache. After that, go back to the Home Screen and launch contacts again. However, to test if the contacts will go through wait a few seconds and create new contacts again. If it’s not resolved, then you don’t have a choice but to clear the data of both Contacts and Contacts Storage. But remember, to clear data you may lose all your contacts and other files on your device. So before hitting the button make sure that you have a backup on your files.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Shows E Instead of H

Question: I have a minor issue with my Galaxy S4. I noticed the issue just this week when my 3G network doesn’t work anymore. Usually, letter “H” is showing on the screen when i use my 3G network. However, as of now letter “E” is showing on the screen instead of “H”. I reset my phone twice but my 3G network still not working. Please help!

Answer: The problem is not with your phone. It’s the availability of HSPA in your area; H stands for HSPA/HSDPA while E stands for Edge. Probably, when you encountered that issue, your service provider slowed down the data transmission speed in your area and there’s nothing we can do about it if that’s the only available network fed by your service provider. However, to be certain, you can call your service provider and ask why you’re getting Edge signal instead of HSPA. But I’m pretty sure there’s nothing wrong with phone and why you’re unable to get 3G network. But it won’t also hurt to check if the phone is set to connect to HSDPA network.

Can’t Update Straight Talk Galaxy S4

Problem: I have a Galaxy S4 and I’m with Straight talk for 5 months now. The issue started last week when I could not update my phone’s software using USB cable and KIES. I tried several times connecting using KIES but it won’t work. Also, I tried using USB cable and connected to the computer but after a few seconds the message pop-up “please connect a device.” I don’t how to fix this issue if you can help that would be great. — April

Troubleshooting: Regarding your issue, make sure that all necessary drivers on your computer are installed properly and Samsung KIES as well. After checking all of it and your computer cannot detect your mobile phone then there’s something wrong with your USB cable. But if your computer can detect the phone then use KIES connection troubleshooter. To be sure that KIES will work you can re-install and install back and use different port on your computer.

Galaxy S4 Camera Snaps Dark Pictures

Problem: Hi, my Galaxy S4’s camera is not working properly. I noticed the issue since last week when I took pictures, and when I reviewed the photos it looks darker. I adjusted the settings of my phone and try taking pictures again but the photos still looks darker. This is the first time that the camera of my phone is doing like this. Is there any way that I can fix this issue? – Mikey

Troubleshooting: If it is the first time this problem happened, then it’s probably that the subject is underexposed when you took the photo. Try take pictures in a well-lit environment to see if there’s a difference. If the outcome is still the same, check if the lens is obscured by dirt or the brightness was set to a lower level. You may also try to view other pictures that were previously taken by the camera to know if they, too, have a darker hue. If they looked normal, then there’s probably an issue with the sensor. It is imperative you perform full hard reset to rule out the possibility that it is just a minor firmware glitch:

If the reset didn’t fix the problem, then it’s time you had the phone checked by a technician. The sensor can easily be replaced if it were the problem. Proper diagnosis is necessary!

Galaxy S4 Clock Takes Time To Update

Problem: Good day droid guy, I have an annoying issue with my phone. After I updated my phone’s software my S4 keeps on lagging and it takes 10-15 seconds before the time will update on the lock screen. However, the clock will work when I set the time for 30 minutes but if I set it at night for the morning it won’t turn off and when you set the time it turns off also. Please help! — Leo

Troubleshooting: If this problem occurred immediately after the update, then the cache of the Clock app may have been corrupted. Try wiping the cache partition so that the phone will be forced to create new caches for pre-installed apps.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  3. When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

If, however, wiping the cache partition didn’t fix the issue, then it’s time you backed up all your data and perform full master reset to bring the phone back to its default settings while keeping the recent update.

Bluetooth Often Disconnects/Reconnects on Galaxy S4

Problem: Hi, I’m with Straight talk for almost a year and I have a Galaxy S4. My issue is all about my Bluetooth, every time I browse the web or YouTube it suddenly disconnects. But when I leave the web or YouTube it will suddenly reconnects. This is the first issue I have for this year. Thanks! — Ryan

Troubleshooting: You’re not the first one to have experienced Bluetooth problems with Galaxy S4. In fact, there have been a lot of reports or complaints like yours. It seems like the latest firmware has some bugs that affect the capability of the device to connect to Bluetooth devices. Wiping the cache partition may help especially if the problem started immediately after an update. Or you may download A2DP Connect app from the Play Store to help make BT connection more stable. Lastly, if all these failed, try doing factory reset to see if that makes a difference. If not, re-flashing the firmware may fix the problem.

Galaxy S4 Giving Error Message During Update

Problem: I have an S4 from straight talk, but every time I tried to update my phone’s software my S4 giving me an error message. But the annoying part is it’s not providing an exact message. HELP! — Bryan

Troubleshooting: Regarding your issue I’m not really sure what update did you do in your phone. Is it a firmware update or app update? If it’s a firmware update then you can resolve the issue by simply using KIES. However, if you’re planning to update your app using Play Store and you encounter error messages you can immediately stop and uninstall the app and download it again and re-install.

Galaxy S4 Camera App Loads Very Slowly

Problem: Hi team, I have my S4 since last month and I’m under Straight talk network. I have this issue for almost 3 days now, every time I open the camera of my S4 it stuck for about 3-4 seconds before I can successfully open it. However, when I compared my S4 to my other Android phone my S4’s camera is slower to open compared to my other phone. And when it comes on the comparison of photos the photos of S4 is blurry. And I checked the settings of my S4 but it’s not helping. How can I fix it?

Troubleshooting: You can try booting your phone in Safe Mode and launch the camera app. Wait for a few seconds and observe if the camera will still open in 3-4 seconds. If there’s still a delay in opening the camera app, then, the issue is on the app that you currently using. The best thing that you need to do is to clear Camera cache and data. After that and the issue is the same, then you don’t have a choice but to Factory reset your phone. However, after booting your phone in Safe Mode and the camera launches fast, then, the issue was triggered by the third-party app and you need to find that app and uninstall it to avoid complications in the future.

Galaxy S4 Charging Port, Power Button Issues

Problem: Hey Droid Guy, first off, want to say I really appreciate you helping out the community like this! Well my Galaxy S4 has run into quite a few issues lately. Let me preface this with the fact that it had a small drop on the tile floor before the issues started to come up. So I had a bad battery a few months back and bought a replacement through the Samsung retailer on Amazon. Everything was working fine until that drop I mentioned earlier. Then it wouldn’t hold a charge, black screen with no vibration or indication that it was receiving a charge at all. Put in my sister’s S4 battery, even my pre-replacement battery in to check if it was that. No luck. Figured it was the charging port, bought the parts and decided to do it myself. Bad move, I was too anxious to get it working that I stripped one of the screws and it wouldn’t come off so I wiggled and wiggled til it did. Didn’t break any parts near the logic board or charging port so I thought I was in the clear. Replaced the parts and screwed the rest of the screws back in place. Started fine and worked the first day but now the power (side) button won’t work! And now, the charging is ultra sensitive, won’t hold a charge if not placed delicately onto the nightstand while charging and turns off randomly now. I assume its the loose screw that I couldn’t tighten that’s affecting the whole thing? (The screw was one of the two screws that is holding the metal/aluminium part of the charging port down) Any guidance is appreciated! Because now I have no idea why the power button is messed up too, pretty sure I put it all wires and such back in place when put in the new charging port. Help!

Lady Phone Newb in Disstress,

Karol

Troubleshooting: Hi Karol, I’m a little confused here. You said you replaced the parts but what I’m wondering is if you replaced the entire daughterboard where the USB charging port is attached, or just the charge port. If ever you replaced the entire module, then there’s nothing you need to check but the flex cable. Just make sure the connectors are properly connected. If it was the latter, then just re-solder the charge port. I don’t think one screw could mess it all up.

The Power key problem may also be limited to that part. Just double check if the switch still snaps if pressed, otherwise, it, too, needs replacement.

Multiple Issues With Galaxy S4

Problem: I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 and it seems to be experiencing a myriad of issues. First of all it recently has been charging extremely slow and isn’t holding a charge well either. Sometimes it can take 12 hours to reach 100%! And sometimes the charger is plugged in and it seems to not be charging at all. And the phone tells me I need to use the original charger when I am using the original charger. Its performance is laggy and slow at times and the 4G loses connectivity and is slow. Also I send texts messages and they aren’t received and vice versa a lot. When I’m finished with a call instead of the screen with the End button displaying the screen is blank and does nothing but eventually hangs up after other person hangs up. I have the wireless protection program insurance for this phone and was told by a local Verizon store to file a claim for the device to be replaced. But online it said I would have a deductible of $150! I am unable to pay this as I am a single unemployed mother of two at the moment. I’m wondering if the quoted deductible was wrong or if there is something I can do to try to fix my phone? Thank you…desperately need help! — Jaime

Troubleshooting: Hi Jaime, as of now, we really don’t know what the issue. So, we really have to troubleshoot and the first thing I want you to do is boot the phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps.

  1. Turn the device off completely.
  2. Press and hold the Power button.
  3. Once the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo appears on the screen, release the Power button.
  4. As soon as you release the Power button, press and hold the Volume Down key.
  5. Continue holding the Volume Down key until the phone has completed the reboot process.
  6. If you can read ‘Safe Mode‘ at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down key. Otherwise, repeat the process until you can boot the phone to Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode, try to charge the phone to see if it accepts the charge normally. Also, try to observe its performance if there’s a difference. If so, then some of your third-party apps are causing the problem and more often, it’s because of corrupt caches. Wiping the cache partition will fix the problem:

If the issues remained after the cache partition has been wiped, there’s no other option but to clear the data partition as well. You can only do so by performing full hard reset:

Straight-Talk-Galaxy-S4-Problems-2

Android 5.0 Lollipop for Samsung Galaxy S4 has already started rolling out in Europe. In the following days, users in the United States will be receiving notifications of the availability of the update. However, it seems like there will be users that will be left behind.

As the roll out nears, we started receiving emails from our readers asking whether or not they will also receive. Unsurprisingly, those questions came from Straight Talk subscribers. Some claimed they haven’t received any update since they got their phones, that’s why they’re worried their devices will not be updated to the latest version. The fact is, no one actually knows if Straight Talk Galaxy S4 will receive the lollipop update. Let’s just wait and see.

Your service provider doesn’t support updates. For more information, of course, call the company and inquire about it. If the rep can’t answer your questions, talk to a manager or people who know more about the company’s policy on updates and whatnot.

WiFi Connection Keeps Disconnecting

Problem: Hi Harold, last month I purchased a Galaxy S4 at Walmart and immediately subscribed on Straight Talk’s $60 international unlimited plan. In the first three weeks my phone was fine, I can easily browse the web without any delay. However, just this week my phone cannot anymore connect to my WiFi. I already checked my WiFi, and I’m pretty sure that my Wi fi has no problem because my laptop and my tablet can easily connect without any delay. Although, sometimes my phone can connect to Wi fi but after a few minutes my phone will directly disconnect from the Wi fi.

I asked straight talk’s customer service about the issue but they cannot fix it. I turned Off and On my phone several times but still I cannot connect to Wi fi. I also asked straight talk if they can send me a new one but they told me they cannot because my phone is not broken. So, I decided to send you a message and probably you can help me with my issue. I hope you can provide me solution on my problem. More power and thanks! — Hassan

If it didn’t work, however, then proceed with the wiping of the cache partition:

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Shows No SIM Card Error

Problem: Good day team, I just transferred service from AT&T to straight talk and immediately subscribed in one of there unlimited promos. After I purchased a straight talk sim card my phone is working great until such time I noticed that my phone cannot anymore recognize a sim card.

The issue started last day morning when I noticed that there’s a message on the screen “No Sim card”. I turned off and on my phone but the notification still stayed on the screen and I haven’t used my phone for almost 2 days now.

I called straight talk yesterday but the representative told me that my phone is fine and they will send me a new sim card. But I’m not convinced what the representative told me because he just turn my phone off and on and after that he suddenly offered me to send a new sim card. And by the way, my phone is Samsung Galaxy S4. Any advice guys is a huge help. Thank you and Godspeed! — Mark

Troubleshooting: It’s obvious the problem is related to your SIM card and the representative did what their protocols tell them to do–replace defective SIM card. Since you are not convinced that the SIM card is defective, try doing the basic troubleshooting.

  1. Turn off the phone.
  2. Remove the back cover and pull the SIM card out.
  3. Clean with a dry cloth the connectors on both the SIM card and the phone.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Black Screen Issue

Problem: Hello Harold, last month I purchased Samsung Galaxy S4 at Walmart which is under by straight talk network. The issue started after I charged my phone and when I tried to turn it on the screen won’t boot-up. I thought it’s normal but after a few minutes the screen is totally black and I cannot use my phone. I asked straight about my problem but the representative cannot fix it. Thank you for this free support guys, I hope you can help me with my issue. Thanks! — Jesse

Troubleshooting: Hey Jesse! We don’t know for sure what the cause of the problem was but let’s begin our troubleshooting with the simply soft reset:

  1. Remove the back cover and pull the battery out.
  2. Without the battery, press and hold the Power key for a minute.
  3. Replace the battery and secure it with the back cover.
  4. Attempt to turn the phone on.

If the screen remained black after that, the battery may have been depleted. Try to charge it and see if the usual charging indicator shows on the screen or if there’s red light. If these indicators are absent, try a different charger or battery. If the phone still won’t charge or power on after that, have it checked. It’s probably a hardware issue.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Can’t Browse The Web

Problem: Hi droid guys, last week I purchased a straight talk sim card at Walmart and after I activated the sim card I immediately mounted it on my Samsung Galaxy S4. During the first few days my phone is perfectly fine. However, the issue started last 2 days ago in which I cannot anymore browse the web. I tried several times turning on and off my phone but still I cannot browse the web. Last night, I contacted straight talk customer service and asked about what the issue of my phone. But the representative cannot identify what is really the issue   we changed the APN settings but after the changes my phone still cannot browse the web. I’ll wait of your reply guys and I hope you can help me with my problem. Thanks! — Mary

Troubleshooting: The question is, which network are you using when browsing the web? If you’re on a WiFi network, the APN has nothing to do with. If you’re using mobile data, then make sure it is enabled in the first place. Once enabled, try browsing the web through a browser and it didn’t work, call Straight Talk again and have your account checked thoroughly, then have the rep send you through SMS the correct APN settings for your phone. Try using a different phone in calling tech support so the rep can troubleshoot the problem.

If all else failed, have the SIM card replaced. During my tenure as a tech support, I’ve encountered SIM card related problems and one of the effects is that the phone couldn’t connect with the mobile data network.

I called straight talk about the issue but the representative told me to send my phone to their warehouse for repair but I refused on the offer. I don’t know what is really the problem with my phone and I’m not a tech-savvy person as well. Any advice guys is a huge help for me. Thanks!- Anne

Troubleshooting: Have you tried using the speaker phone? If not yet, then try it to see if it also has static on the line because if that’s the case, it’s not the phone that has a problem but the network. You may be in an area where the coverage is not so good. However, if there’s no static when using the speakerphone, then it’s a hardware issue. I understand it would take weeks before you can get your phone back but that’s the only viable option left for you to get the problem fixed, although, there’s no guarantee Straight Talk technicians can fix it. But just try, okay?

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Shows Vertical Line on the Screen

Problem: Hello guys, my phone is Samsung Galaxy S4 and I purchased it at Walmart last year and I immediately subscribed on straight talk network. By the way, the issue started when I accidentally dropped my phone on the floor. After a day, my phone has no problem but yesterday I noticed that there’s a white vertical line in the center of my phone screen. I asked the representative about the vertical line on the screen but the representative cannot provide me an exact resolution about the problem. Instead she offered me to ship my phone to their warehouse for immediate repair but I declined on the offer of the representative. And thank you for this free support your articles is a huge help to us as customers of straight talk. I hope you can help me with my issue! — Ruby

Troubleshooting: Well, apparently, the drop somehow caused some sort of damage to the display and we cannot appreciate the extent of the damage simply by looking at it. I don’t understand why you declined the rep’s offer to ship your phone to their warehouse to be repaired when there’s no other viable option. Oh well, there is, have a local tech take a look at it.

My point is, it’s a hardware issue and there’s nothing we can do on the firmware that would fix or get rid of the vertical line that runs through the screen. The best thing you can do right now is to backup your data so they will not be deleted if the technician decided to factory reset the phone. It’s for your privacy also.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Won’t Charge

Problem: Hi droid guys, I have a 1 month old Samsung Galaxy S4 and it’s not originally a straight talk phone. After I activated the straight talk sim card my phone has been working great. However, the issue started when I charged my phone overnight and when I tried to charge it again my phone won’t charge anymore. I thought my battery was damaged because I charged it overnight but after I purchased a new battery and I charge it, my battery still won’t charge. I called customer service but all of my calls were disconnected and I hate calling it back. Please help me droid guy and I hope you can give me a solution on my issue. Thank you and more power! — Kharen

Troubleshooting: You said you bought a new battery but the phone still refused to charge. Well, it could be the charger. Have you tried using a different charger? You may also try to connect the phone to a computer just to see if it charges. If not, then it’s a hardware issue. The charging IC may have a problem and you need to have it checked by a technician.

If, however, the phone charges when plugged to a computer, then the charger is the problem. Buy a new one.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Shows Insert SIM Card Error

Problem: Good day guys, please help with my problem, my phone is just 2 months old and I purchased it brand new at Walmart. After I activated my Galaxy S4 and enrolled on unlimited promo of straight talk my phone worked great.

However, the issue started when I dropped my phone from jeans and after few days my phone cannot anymore recognize a simcard and there’s a message “Insert SIM card”. I thought my Simcard was damaged after I dropped my phone so I buy again a new straight talk simcard and transferred all the minutes left from my old simcard. But after the transfer the notification still appeared on my phone screen. I already contacted the customer service but they cannot fix the issue. My phone is not working for almost a week now and I wasted money purchasing a new Simcard but the issue is still the same. I hope you can help me guys and I’ll wait for advice. More power guys! — April

Suggestion: Obviously, the impact of the dropped somehow damaged your phone or, at least, affected its capability to detected mounted SIM card. There’s no way we can fix it by tweaking or changing settings. It’s a hardware issue and you need to have it checked as soon as possible. I understand you already wasted time and money but there’s no fix to this issue. You may send it in or just bring it to a local technician in your area. Your choice.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Can’t Download and Browse Via Mobile Data

Problem: Hello guys, I’m hoping you can help me with my problem; I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T two months ago. The problem occurs after I ported my phone number from AT&T over to Straight Talk. In the first few months of subscription with Straight Talk I don’t have a problem downloading and browsing a web with my phone. However, since last week until now I notice that I cannot anymore download and browse a web using my mobile data. I also checked my Wi-fi and there’s no problem with it. The signal bars are full, I tried also turning my phone Off and On but there’s no use. I’m hoping that you can give me a solution or remedy to fix my phone. I’ll wait for your reply guys and thank you and more power!

Troubleshooting: Issue like cannot download or browse the web is one of the most common issues that we are receiving right at this time from our readers. However, there are lots of factors that we need to consider why your phone is having this issue. First, if you prefer to use the data of your phone, make sure that mobile data is turned on. Second, make sure that there’s no signal interruption in your area by checking the signal bars of your phone. Weak signal can also affect if you’re downloading or browsing the web.

In addition, APN settings must be correct. You need to check if all characters are correct. If you’re not sure that you have the right APN, I suggest that you call your service provider and ask for the right one. There are instances that the APN settings of the phone is lock or set on the system where you purchased the phone. For example, from AT&T, sometimes the APN settings of the phone is set only in AT&T. Although, it will work for a few months but there is a possibility that the APN settings will automatically set-back from its original setting which is the AT&T setting.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Shows No SIM Card Error

Problem: Hi guys, I hope you can help me with my problem. Last month I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 from Walmart and have Straight Talk service on it. The phone is actually good, however, just this few weeks I encountered an error it shows on the phone screen “No SIM Card”. In fact, just this week it happened everyday on my phone, and the only thing that I’m doing is just to reboot my phone but after a few hours the error message shows-up again. I don’t know what is really the problem is it the SIM card or the phone itself? I’ll wait for the response and thank you for this free support it’s a big help for us and more power! — Nick

Troubleshooting: Hello Nick. Basically, that kind of error message is very common especially if you’re using an Old Straight Talk SIM Card. You mentioned that every time the error message shows-up on the screen you just reboot the phone and the it will be back to its normal operation. I think there’s no problem with your SIM Card.

You need to observe the performance of your phone. Try to remove the battery and wait for a minute before putting back the battery to the phone. In case, the issue will occur again that’s the time that you need to call Straight Talk Customer Service.

The representative will provide some troubleshooting steps, which you need to follow. Straight Talk provides 1 year warranty for its devices, which you need to use if proven the phone has the issue.

The representative will try to fix the issue, but if they cannot fix it, most probably they will create a ticket and send you a box where you will put your defective phone together with the label. You can received the box in 3-5 business days depending on how far your area is from their warehouse.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Won’t Turn On

Problem: Hi guys, I have an issue with my Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, I don’t know if this is just a minor problem. Last night my phone was turned off, I tried to turn it on but unfortunately, it won’t. I charged the phone the whole night and the LED notification lit up and there’s a message battery full. I’m not a tech-savvy person but I can assure you that the phone wasn’t dropped or submerged in the water. I don’t know why this issue happened on my phone. Any response is much more appreciated and thank you! — Jane

Troubleshooting: Hey Jane. It’s probably just a minor glitch. I can’t see any reason why the phone won’t turn on after it has been turned off. For this, I want you to try the soft reset first:

  1. Remove the back cover and pull the battery out.
  2. Press and hold the power key for a minute, and then repeatedly press (as many times as possible) it in a bid to get it from being stuck.
  3. Insert the battery back in and secure it with the back cover.
  4. Attempt to turn the phone on to see if it can boot up successfully now.

If soft reset can’t fix it, then boot the phone in safe mode and just reboot normally after that.

Calls Go Straight To Voicemail on ST Galaxy S4

Problem: Hi guys, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and my service provider is Straight Talk. I subscribed to their Unlimited data, calls and text, however, right now I can’t receive any call. 3 days ago I noticed that people cannot call on my number. So, I used my boyfriend’s phone and try to call my phone number, but I was routed directly to my voicemail. However, after a day I tried again calling my own number but again I routed directly to my voicemail. Until now I cannot receive any calls and can’t make a single call. However, I hate calling the tech support because obviously they’ll have to transfer my call several times and it’s just a waste of time. Any response about my issue is a huge help for me and thank you! — May

Suggestion: Hi May, you really need to call Straight Talk’s tech support hotline because this problem is on their end and not with your phone. I understand why you don’t want to call them but there’s no other choice. Straight Talk’s representatives have a tool that can fix this issue in a single click of a button. Also, if the problem is with your account, then they can verify it and eventually fix the problem.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Has Very Slow Connection

Problem: Hello guys, I have a problem with my data. I have a Galaxy S4 and my service provider is Straight Talk, in the first two weeks of the month my data is really fast but in the third to fourth week my connection is really bad. Even a single site my connection takes so long to load. I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my phone or on my connection. Right now, I’m having much trouble, I don’t really know what’s the problem. Any response can help a lot, thank you and more power guys! — Jim

Troubleshooting: Straight Talk sure offers unlimited data plan but only a few of its subscribers know there is a cap. If I’m not mistaken, the cap is 5GB for every billing cycle. It means that when you consumed 5GB or more data, your connection speed will be throttled down, thus, you will experience slow browsing. There’s no way to fix this except buy a new unlimited card from Walmart. To prevent this issue from happening in the future, minimize streaming of videos from sites like YouTube, Facebook, etc.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Won’t Boot Up Completely

Problem: Hi droid guys, I have a Galaxy S4 and I use Straight Talk unlimited plan. Anyway, last day my phone shutdown on its own and I don’t know what the issue is. I tried turning it on but the phone was not responding. However, I tried also removing the battery of the phone and press the power button as what you mentioned in one of your articles and fortunately the phone turned on. But the problem is it is stuck on the Samsung Logo. After 15 minutes I checked my phone but the problem is still the same. Please help me, thank you for your free support and more power! — John

Troubleshooting: It could be just a glitch, could be anything else; we don’t know for sure. The consolation is the phone powers on. So, let’s make it to boot up to the Home screen. I don’t know the setup of your phone or why the problem happened so let’s take the safest route.

The first thing I want you to do is to boot the phone in safe mode:

If the phone can boot successfully in safe mode, try to reboot normally. Such procedure usually fixes problems like this. Otherwise, wipe the cache partition by booting in recovery mode.

ST Galaxy S4 Shows 1 Unread Message

Problem: Hi guys, I have a problem with my phone, every now and then there’s notification appearing that I have 1 unread message. I already deleted all of my messages but the notification still on the screen. I’m hoping this is not a serious problem. I need help for this issue; I’ll wait for your suggestions thank you! — Richard

Troubleshooting: Hey, Richard. It’s just a minor glitch in the service that handles data for notifications and badges. Don’t worry, it can easily be fixed. Just follow the steps below and you’re good to go:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Menu key
  2. Simply tap the More tab
  3. Tap the Application Manager, swipe to display All section
  4. Scrolll and locate BadgeProvider
  5. Tap Clear Cache, and Clear Data
  6. Reboot the phone

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Internet Has Stopped

Problem: Hi droid guys, this is my second email to you guys and my second problem. The solution your provided me with my first problem totally helped me. Thanks. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4 under Straight Talk network. The issue of my phone is, every time I browse the web using my data there’s a notification appearing on the phone screen “Unfortunately, Internet has stopped.” Please help me to fix my phone, and more power! — Sylvia

Troubleshooting: Internet is actually Galaxy S4’s stock browser, so if it stopped working, you’ll still be able to connect to the internet using other apps. One of the most common reasons why stock apps like Internet will crash is when there are other apps connected to it that were disabled. I’ve outlined a troubleshooting procedure for you below:

  1. From the Home Screen, tap Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings and then Application manager.
  3. Tap left or right to show the contents of the All tab.
  4. Make sure that no App is labeled “Disabled”
  5. Scroll and tap Internet app.
  6. Tap Force Close button.
  7. Tap Clear Cache button.
  8. Lastly, tap Clear Data button. (Take note you will lose all the bookmarks and browsing history.)
  9. Tap OK to confirm.
  10. After that, Launch Internet again and wait if the error message will appear again.
  11. If the error still on the screen, try wiping the cache partition. If these steps won’t work then you can Factory reset your phone or try to use other browsers like; Opera, firefox and Chrome.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Randomly Reboots After An Update

Problem: Hi droid guy, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and my service provider Is Straight Talk. My phone is keep on rebooting after I done an update to my phone. I don’t want to factory reset my phone because I have lots of important files stored on my phone. I hope you can help me, I’ll wait for any of your advice and more power. — Mila

Troubleshooting: Hi Mila. It seems like the recent update corrupted some data or caches and that’s what’s causing the reboots. We really don’t know for sure the extent of this problem but in our troubleshooting, let’s take the safer way. That said, the first thing I want you to do is boot the phone in safe mode:

If the phone can boot successfully with all third-party apps temporarily disabled, then the data that were corrupted belong to apps you downloaded. Without doing anything yet, try to reboot the phone to see if it can boot normally. Usually, this procedure works because the phone just needs to cache newer sets of data and replace those that were corrupted. However, if the phone failed to boot normally from safe mode, then you need to wipe the cache partition via the recovery mode.

If wiping the cache partition failed, then a full reset is necessary to bring the phone back to life. You can do so while in recovery mode:

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Redownloads Documents

Problem: Hi droid guys, I have a Galaxy S4 and has a weird issue. Anyway, my phone keeps on syncing photos and documents even I already turned off all syncs. Notifications appearing all the time and some other photos and documents already synced and downloaded. I don’t know what’s the problem of my phone. Please help me and more power! — Betty

Troubleshooting: It’s just a glitch with the system, Betty. Usually, this issue occurs after an update or when the phone shut down unexpectedly. The Download Manager attempts to download data that are still in the phone’s memory, or at least, it appears that way. Actually, those documents or data haven’t been re-downloaded, it’s only the phone notifying you that it has finished “downloading” something and when you touch the notification, nothing happens. It is more of an annoyance than a problem, really. To fix this, just follow the simple procedure below:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap More Tab
  3. Tap Application Manager
  4. Swipe left of right to show the All Tab
  5. Tap the Download manager
  6. Tap Clear Cache
  7. Tap Clear data and tap OK

MicroSD Card Randomly Unmounts on ST Galaxy S4

Question: Hi Harold, my name is Paul and I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 given to me by my son and I have Straight Talk as my service provider. I have a very annoying issue with the phone. Out of the blue it will notify me that the SD card has been unmounted unexpectedly but I didn’t touch it. The card was actually mine and I have been using it for years when I was still using my old Nokia phone. I have a hunch the card can already be damaged but is it really the case? I need your advice on this. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world.

Answer: Hey Paul! Honestly, I really don’t know if your microSD card is already damaged but based on your description, I think you’re right about your suspicion. I suggest you backup all your data first while you still can. Once finished, reformat the microSD card using FAT32 format and mount it back on your phone, and then observe closely if the error still pops up. If so, then it’s time you bought a new microSD card. However, if the problem is fixed, continue using the card but be cautious as it may be in the verge of being damaged. Don’t save your important data in it.

How to Fix Straight Talk Galaxy S4 Problems and Errors

Samsung Galaxy S4

This post is apparently intended for Samsung Galaxy S4 owners who are currently using services offered by Straight Talk in the U.S. but I just want everyone to know that the procedures I cited here could work in any S4 devices. I just felt the need to answer questions sent to us by several Straight Talk customers, hence, this post.

Based on the number of emails we received, I may continue supporting any Android device. So, if you have concerns, questions and problems with your phone, do not hesitate to email us at [email protected] and we will help you find solutions. However, we need you to provide as much information as possible so that we could provide appropriate suggestions.

Receiving duplicate text messages in Galaxy S4

Problem: Hi Harold, I’m having a bit of a problem with my Straight Talk Galaxy S4. More often I’ll receive two text messages in a row with the same content and there was even a time when I received three or four messages from the same person with the same content. I was thinking they were pranking, so I asked them; there weren’t. Using the phone of my wife, I sent a text message to my number and I got two. My S4 is not rooted and never been; everything in it is stock. That said, I use a stock messaging app. I do have, however, SMS Backup and Restore installed. I would like to think of it as an annoyance rather than a big issue. Do you think that’s causing the issue? So far, that’s the only app that’s connected to the messaging app so that could be it, right? — Jenkins

Solution: Hi Jenkins. It’s definitely not that significant but it can get annoying over time if left unaddressed. We have noticed a similar issue from one of the tech websites we have visited before about this and it appears that the only way to test our hunch is to allow the phone to operate in diagnostics mode, also known as Safe Mode. This should be enough to observe if third party apps are causing the problem. To perform a Safe Mode please follow the steps below:

  1. Press and hold the Power button to turn off the phone
  2. Select Power off
  3. Select OK and wait for a few seconds
  4. Press and hold the Power button until the S4 logo shows up then release
  5. While the logo is still on the screen, press and hold the Volume down button. Continue doing so until the Safe mode screen appears. You will know if you’re in safe mode because the words “Safe mode” will show up in the lower left side of the display. To go back to normal mode, simply restart the phone pressing and hold the Power button again, then select Restart.

While in safe mode, try to send yourself a text message and see if it has a duplicate. If you only receive one message after a few minutes, then it means a third-party app is causing the issue and maybe you are right about your suspicion that the app SMS Backup and Restore is causing the issue. You may try to disable that when in normal mode and see if that fixes the problem. If it still persists, continue disabling other apps that you think may have caused in.

However, if the problem is still the same even if you’re in safe mode, then we have reasons to believe it’s one of the pre-installed apps that’s causing the problem or perhaps the stock messaging itself. Since we cannot uninstall those apps, the best thing you could do is clear the cache and data.

If all else fails, call Straight Talk and inquire whether there are other customers who called the hotline complaining the same problem. If so, then it could be a network problem. Of course, if you think the problem won’t go away, backup your data and perform factory reset.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 system UI error shows up

Problem: Harold, I have a Straight Talk Galaxy S4 and the problem I have already happened to me several times. My phone is running Android KitKat 4.4. Whenever I uninstall apps or games I don’t use anymore, I get the error message, “Unfortunately, com.android.systemui process has stopped working.” I thought the problem happens when I uninstall apps but no. There were apps I uninstalled that didn’t trigger this problem but it is certain to happen when I uninstall huge game apps like Real Racing 3, CSR Racing, etc. — Shannon

Solution: Hi Shannon. “com.android.systemui process has stopped working” error is an indicator that one of the phone’s system files have been corrupted or in conflict with some installed apps. But it seems like this problem can be triggered only when you uninstall apps that has a lot of data. I’m pretty sure it’s not a big issue since it only happens whenever you uninstall apps and there is a very slim chance you install those apps back only to uninstall them again.

I hope this will help but I suggest you force close the game you want to uninstall first, clear its cache and data and proceed with uninstallation. In understand that could be a bit of a hassle but it will just take a few seconds. If you don’t want to do that, however, then I suggest you backup all your data and factory reset your phone to bring it back to the state when everything is working fine.

Mobile data not working on Straight Talk Galaxy S4

Problem: Hello, Harold. A friend told me about your site and I have just finished reading some of your support articles for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and I’m quite impressed how you can answer all those questions sent by users like me. Anyway, I have a problem with my phone, too. I’m using a Galaxy S4 I bought from Walmart and currently under Straight Talk. I can receive and make calls alright but I cannot browse the internet even if I have already enabled mobile data.

I visited a Walmart store yesterday and was advised I should call ST’s hotline. I tried, been on the phone without a rep for over 20 minutes so I decided I’d call later.

So I was reading one of your articles and at the end section I saw the link to your blog. In the about page of your blog, you wrote that you recently worked with Straight Talk, so I’m sure you can help me or probably give me some advice I could use. I really need internet in my phone as I got my internet at home disconnected thinking I can still receive emails through this phone. Please help. Thanks. — Jewel

Solution: Hi Jewel. Thanks for reading my posts and visiting my blog. Yes, I have been a tech support for ST and I could probably help you with your problem. The issue actually lie on incorrect APN (Access Point Name) settings on your phone. I understand that you bought your phone from Walmart and may have already been provisioned but there times when APN isn’t correct especially when ST changes the settings from time to time. Try checking the APN settings by following these instructions:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Wireless & networks
  3. Select Mobile Networks
  4. Select Access Point Names.
  5. Tap the three dots at the bottom right and select New APN
  6. Enter the following data on their corresponding fields:
    1. Name: straight talk
    2. APN: tfdata
    3. MCC: 310
    4. MNC: 410
    5. Authentication type: PAP
    6. APN Type: default
  7. Click the Menu button then select Save when done.

If things won’t still work for you after this, you may try the company’s online support to updating data settings. Before you that, make sure you have your phone number or SIM card number with you as you may need it, and then visit this page and enter the information being asked. Two things could happen, either the phone will be updated automatically or you will have to manually enter the APN.

Straight Talk Galaxy S4 soaked in water for 5 seconds

Problem: Hi guys. I have a really serious problem with my phone–it was soaked in water for a few seconds. After that happened, I tried to turn it on and the display actually worked. By the time I tried unlocking it, it wouldn’t just respond and then the screen turned off. Now, whatever I do, the phone just wouldn’t respond. So, I took the battery out for a few seconds and then put it back in, attempted to turn the phone on, still nothing. I had to do this process several times until the screen lit up again but there was this strange buzzing sound inside then the screen was showing some blotchy colors with what seemed like liquid. Had to buy rice for this and left it overnight but the problem remains. All I get is a lit up blotch screen and that’s it. Can you help me with this please? What should I do? — Miles

Solution: Hi Miles. We doubt if soaking your phone in a bowl of rice helps at all in this scenario. You know what, liquid may not actually damage the phone per se; it’s the act of turning it on after being soaked that could damage some of the components and circuits inside. I understand why you had to turn the phone on after it was soaked in water–to know whether it still works. Of course, it would work but not for long. I suggest you bring it to any Walmart store and have their tech take a look at it. The tech may need to open the phone and perform general cleaning before he can test whether something was damaged or not. At least, that’s your best option for now.

You should also remember that water damage on a phone must be treated with urgency to prevent rust from developing and the best way to do this is to manually open the phone to clean the board. There are guides in the web on how to open and clean the motherboard but we don’t recommend them here as they may add more damage than mitigate them. If you’re not confident it doing it yourself, please have someone with technical expertise check your phone so it will be cleaned thoroughly. If you’re lucky, the display may still be functional after cleaning the board and may continue using the phone normally. Alternatively, you can ask for a replacement from your retailer or from Samsung.

Problem: Good day again. I wanted to ask how I get my keyboard to remember the words I type and my typing styles and patterns. It used to recognize it before then it just stopped. I hope you can help me. Thank you. — Frank

Solution: Hi, Frank. It appears you need to reset the settings of your keyboard. Please follow these resolution steps:

  1. Go to Settings

  3. Select Language and input
  4. Select Samsung keyboard (settings)
  5. Turn off Predictive text
  6. Restart Phone
  7. Go back to Samsung keyboard settings
