Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Official; WiFi Model Coming April 11 for $399

The journey of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 began with the launch of Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in August last year.  Samsung pictured the 10-incher as a dream device for every user and as a tablet that would finally unseat laptops from desks – a tablet capable of everything tablet should.  However, just a few weeks after it hit the shelves, Note 10.1 proved to be a disappointment – in performance and ergonomics.  I have a feeling that Samsung’s decision to release Note 8.0 is more to correct the few mishaps of 10.1 than to reach a newer market.  Anyway, the news is, Samsung is officially making the WiFi model of Galaxy Note 8.0 available in the US market for $400 – but with a $25 Play Store credit.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0

The Galaxy Note 8.0 is basically an 8 inch version of the Galaxy Note 2 which was a big success in the market worldwide.  The 8 inch tablet, which was unveiled during the 2013 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in February, is marketed as a perfect mid-sized member of the Galaxy tablet and as a powerful home and office device with the advanced technology and power to make multitasking easy, to accomplish any office or school work and to use as a multimedia and gaming device.  Just like the Note 2, Note 8 can be used to place GSM calls (3G/4G version) and comes with S-Pen which is one of the bestselling features of the Note.

When it comes to hardware specifications, the Note 8 comes with the same processor the Note 2 has – 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 with a Mali 400 GPU.  It also boasts of 2 GB of RAM for optimum application performance, 8.0 800×1280 pixels screen, 5 megapixels rear camera, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS, choice of 16 and 32 GB onboard memory with microSD card slot memory expansion by up to 64GB and will be available in white.

This tablet will be the first to come with Samsung’s WatchON feature, a new search and recommendation service that makes channel surfing, on-demand video content and finding TV shows to watch easy and fast.  Samsung is treating Note 8.0 buyers with apps and services valued at over $200 on purchasing the device including 50GB Dropbox cloud storage for 2 years, Samsung Smart Remote, 1 month free unlimited music streaming through Samsung’s Music Hub and a $25 Google Play credit.

We know that Samsung will be making another version of Galaxy Note 8.0 available soon – a silver version with 3G/4G and WiFi but I am sure this version will cost more than the Wi-Fi only version.  If you are interested in buying the Galaxy Note 8.0, it will be available on April 11th from Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile, P.C. Richard & Son,, Staples, Amazon, h.h. Gregg and Newegg among other retailers.
