Solved Samsung Galaxy S9 Not Fully Charging

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S9 is the newest flagship Android smartphone of the South Korean giant that is a refinement over its predecessor. This new model sports a much powerful processor ( Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 depending on market region) combined with 4GB of RAM allowing the phone to perform very well. It still uses the same 5.8 inch Super AMOLED display as the S8 with the screen occupying most of the front part of the phone. Although this is a solid performing device there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S9 not fully charging issue and other related problems.

S9 Not Fully Charging

Problem: Hi, So I have a Galaxy S9 and i have had it for a month. I plugged my phone in and it displays the amount of time until fully charged and it said 2 hours and 10 min. I was at 80%. I left it alone for 2 hours and came back and it was at 83%. I tried my two charging “blocks”(the things that go into the wall) and then 6 micro usb chords in each some 3 ft and some 6ft and the charge time remained the same. I don’t know what to do but I need to have a fully charged phone and it taking over 2 hours to charge 20% is not going to work. As of right now it still is not fully charged and i plugged it in at 4:30, its 8:00 now. Please get back to me asap bc I dont really have time to go to the store if it is something I can fix.

Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to check the charging port of the phone for any signs of dirt or debris as this could interfere with the charging process. If necessary you should clean the port with a  can of compressed air. Once the port is clean try charging it again (it’s better to try different charging cords and wall chargers when charging the phone). In case the problem persists then continue with the steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then an app you download might be causing the problem by constantly using battery hungry resources such as the processor. You should find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete check if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component, possibly the battery. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S9 Battery Draining Very Fast

Problem: Battery is draining very fast. After charging all night without being on within in 5 minutes of use down 6%! My phone used to last almost 24 hour with minimal use. I don’t play games on my phone and no social media. Now it won’t last till 2 PM. It is also slower.

Related Problem: My phone for a while would charge slow other times at a normal rate , but since last night I was having trouble trying to get it to charge so i left it charging all night. This morning i got my phone which loses battery super fast , by the time it was on 30% i tried charging it but it wouldn’t charge at all , it didn’t show the charging icon either , later on in the evening i charged it while it was off and it charged about 5% but definitely super slow, the screen goes of and on none stop , what should i do or what can help ?

Solution: The most common factor that can cause a battery to drain fast is an app installed in the phone or some corrupt data. This is what we will be checking first.

  • Make sure that your phone is running on the latest software update.
  • Try starting the phone in Safe Mode then check if the battery still drains fast in this mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone. If you have a microSD card installed in the phone then remove it. Try checking if the issue still occurs.

In case the issue persists and your phone is using an Exynos processor then I suggest that you wait for a future update to fix this problem as this is a known issue affecting the Exynos line of the S9.

S9 Not Turning On After Getting Wet

Problem: So just came back from vacation (beach) and after a snorkeling session, noticed moisture and my Samsung Galaxy S9 would not power up and the display was black. Tried the rice trick which did not work. Now the phone is blinking red when trying to charge the phone, question is, is there any hope of recovering any data from the phone at this time? So gutted!!! Any useful information is most appreciated.

Solution: If you have already placed the phone in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours and the issue persists then water might have already entered the phone causing some damage to its components. Although this phone has some water resistant features it is still possible for the device to get water damaged especially if the rubber seals are broken. Regarding the data stored in the phone you won’t be able to access this unless the phone switches on. Assuming the internal storage is not damaged then you can access this data if you have the phone repaired at a service center.

S9+ Not Charging After Battery Fully Drained

Problem: Hi Guys, my very expensive galaxy 9 Plus is not charging AT ALL. Not responding to anything. Nothing. I am extremely upset as this happened just 5 days after I went on holidays, I am only coming back to Australia (where I live and bought this ) in 4 weeks. I cannot tell you how infuriated I am as I bought this phone because of the camera, and now I am on holidays and cannot take any picture, not to mention the fact I can’t speak to anyone and I am travelling alone. Anyway, just want to ask you if this is something that has happened to others users? Basically my phone went flat, and when i got back and connected to the charger it wouldn’t charge.Tried all your tips , didn’t work.  I am frustrated as hell as you can see, and I hope I can return the phone and get my money back, and of course get back to Apple as I never had any problem in 8 years of using iPhones. Thanks for your time and help

Solution: When the battery of a phone has fully drained it will take some time for it to respond when you connect it to a charger. In case you are using a wall charger to charge your phone and it doesn’t respond after 20 minutes then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port as this could cause charging problems.
  • Try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge the phone.
  • Try using a wireless charger to charge the phone.

In case the phone remains unresponsive then you will need to have this checked at a service center as it could be caused by a faulty hardware component.

S9+ Not Turning On After Interrupted Software Update

Problem: Hello, good morning. My phone is a S9+ 2018.  Came with 50% battery, used it, reached 0%, charged it 100% and started using it, but still without SIM or micro SD. I missed a notification that said I needed to update, but I put it up for the night. It was to be held between 2:00 and 5:00 a.m. I’m pretty sure I’ve set the right time, but I might as well not. At about 9:30 p.m. I went to get him and he was with the screen as if it was on, it said “Samsung” and the name of the cell phone (“The typical power screen”). I had left it on with 86% of the battery. Since I couldn’t get past that screen, I pressed the volume down and on button to force a reset. It went out and didn’t start anymore. I’ve already tried all of his techniques with different combinations of buttons, but none of them worked. The cell phone won’t start, and there’s no reaction to anything. I put it on load and nothing happens. What will it be? It occurs to me that I may have had a badge short, or a battery failure. But I also think that the update may have been started, and when I turn it off, the system crashes. I bought it in Panama and I live in Argentina, I’m looking for a way to enforce the guarantee, but in the meantime I’m trying to get it started. What else can I do, without invalidating the warranty? Solution: The best way to fix this issue right now is to start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that if you have any data stored in the phone it will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When you see a green Android logo , release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the factory reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S9+ Not Turning On After Getting Wet

Problem: Hi. I have Samsung Galaxy S9+. I was in a swimming pool and used it mostly out of water, but once or twice for a couple of seconds under water, not deeper than 1 m. depth. Moisture detector has got on and later I turned it off, but it won’t turn on now, though I kept it under the sun for an hour approximately and several hours later dried it with hair dryer.  Still not turning on and not charging. Please help.

Solution: Placing the phone under the sun is not a good idea as the high temperature will damage the phone battery. What you should do instead in this case is to make sure that the phone is dry by placing it in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. The rice will absorb any moisture present in the phone. Once this is done make sure that there is no debris present in the phone charging port. If necessary clean this port using a can of compressed air. Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger then check if the phone will turn on.

In case the issue still persists then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
