S9 Messages App Not Opening

Problem: Just updated my phone 2 days ago. When I turned it on my messages app would not open. I restarted the phone, and tried again. Nothing, it would try to open but the app wouldn’t respond. For like 2 hours. Now I only get notifications that I have a text message when I unlock my phone. Example: rcvd text at 900a. Unlocked the phone at 908a then received notifications. It’s like that for every text. On top of that when i unlock the phone it gives me like 3-4 notifications for one text. Extremely annoying. Any assistance would be great.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do is to check if the problem is caused by a glitch in the messaging app. You should clear the cache and data of the messaging app from the application manager. Once this is done try to check if the issue still occurs. In case it does then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will have to do a factory reset as the problem could be caused by some old software data that has not been completely removed during the update process. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

S9 Stopped Receiving Text Messages

Problem: I have a samsung S9 that has all of a sudden stopped receiving texts. I can make and receive phone calls. I can send texts. I took out the SIM card. I checked to see if I needed to delete any messages. I cleared the data and cache in the messenger that came with the phone. I don’t have any other messaging apps in my phone. I also did a factory reset but still not receiving text messages

Solution: If a factory reset fails to fix the problem then this could either be a SIM card related problem or an account related problem. Try getting a new SIM card then check if the issue still occurs. You can also contact your carrier regarding this matter and have them check if there are any issues that can prevent your phone from getting text messages.

S9 Randomly Not Sending Text Message

Problem: Randomly my texts will not send to someone and it doesnt notify me that they didn’t send. This happens even when my service is great. Then days later when I am in an area of no service, they will send to the original person. I’m not sure why but it is still happening. Very frustrating. Has never happened with any of my other android phones. I have had a couple samsungs since 2014 (from an iphone) then switched to this about two  months ago.

Solution: To fix this problem you should follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. After performing a step immediately check if the issue still occurs and if it does you should proceed to the next step.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager.
  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it’s very likely that an app you downloaded is causing the problem. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
