Today we will tackle the Galaxy S6 intermittently receiving text messages issue & other related problems. What happens in this case is that messages sometimes arrive very late or sometimes not at all. We will take a look at why this is happening. We will also be addressing the other issues concerning this device that have been sent our way.

S6 Intermittently Receiving Text Messages
Problem: For about the past 10 days, I have only intermittently been receiving text messages. Sometimes they arrive a day late, sometimes not at all and rarely have they arrived timely. I have performed a soft reset and cleared the system cache. Today, I restarted my phone in Safe Mode, and it appears to be working better. So, does that mean it is likely a 3rd party app that was updated about 10 or 11 days ago? My app update history only shows apps updated in the last couple of days. How do I know which apps were updated about 10 or 11 days ago (since it appears that is the app causing my issue)? I have many, many 3rd party apps installed on my phone, and I wouldn’t even know which one(s) to begin uninstalling first. That’s why it would be nice to see a history showing which apps were updated starting about 10 or 11 days ago. Thank you!
Solution: Since the problem does not occur when the phone is started in Safe Mode then there’s a chance that an app you downloaded is causing the problem. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to pinpoint the exact app. What you will have to do to determine what app is causing the problem is a trial and error method. Uninstall or disable one app then start the phone in standard mode. Check if the issue still occurs. If it does then the app that you uninstalled is not causing the problem. Repeat the procedure until you get to the point where after uninstalling an app the issue does not occur anymore.
One shortcut to fixing this problem is a factory reset. You will however need to backup your phone data first before performing the reset as it will be erased in the process.
S6 Speakerphone Activates when Making Calls
Problem: When I swipe right, on message page, to place a call, it seems to always be on speaker phone although speaker phone icon not illuminated. I tap icon, it comes on, I tap it again and it goes off thus turning speakerphone off. I just don’t know why it always starts calls off on speaker phone?
Solution: Try going to the S Voice setting of the phone then make sure that the auto start speaker option is unchecked. In case it is already unchecked and this issue still occurs then perform the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Clear the cache and data of the phone app from the application manager
- Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S6 Is Making A Buzzing Sound
Problem: Hello, i have a samsung galaxy s6 that is constantly making a buzzing sound. I have looked into the problem by typing “samsung s6 making buzzing sound” into google however all the results were related to the camera making noise and i don’t believe it is coming from there. If you could help that would be great thanks.
Solution: Usually the buzzing sound will come from a component of the phone that moves and this component is the camera module. The reason behind this is that the camera has optical image stabilization which uses a dual axis gyroscope.This gyroscope moves around to achieve a stable image. If you dropped your phone recently then it’s very likely that the gyroscope has become loose thus causing the buzzing sound. If this is the case then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
In case the issue is not caused by the camera then one other thing that you should look into is if the problem is caused by an app you installed. To verify if this is the case you need to start the phone in Safe Mode. If the buzzing sound does not occur in this mode then it might be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
One last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
S6 Cannot Use Third Party Keyboard
Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 running 6.0.1. I use Keeper a lot. So I prefer to have the KeeperFill keyboard as my default keyboard. I have it enabled and ready to go. However, when I try to set the default keyboard to KeeperFill, I can’t even close the settings before it reverts to the Samsung keyboard. Tried a soft reset without success. Would love to solve this without doing a factory reset. Thanks.
Solution: Try to check first if the issue is caused by KeeperFill keyboard by downloading another keyboard app from the Google Play Store then using this keyboard app as the default phone keyboard. If you are able to use this other keyboard app then the problem is caused by the KeeperFill app.
In case the issue is the same even if you try another third party keyboard then you should try wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode. Check if the issue still occurs after this. If it does then you should consider doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
S6 Radio Streaming Stops
Problem: I’m an electronics technician, so testing is my job. I’ve troubleshot this issue and believe that there is a fundamental issue with Android (Marshmallow) and/or the Samsung S6 related to streaming and possibly the movement of the device. I’ve tried 3 different radio streaming apps to listen to a local radio station: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.securenetsystems.krad1 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jacobsmedia.krxq https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tunein.player All have the same symptom: if I put the phone in my pocket and walk around, whether it’s on mobile data with a strong 4G signal or on Wi-Fi, the app stops streaming, usually after 30 seconds to a couple of minutes. The first two stop streaming after about the same time period even while sitting on a desk, again with full signal or strong Wi-Fi. When I check the app, it’s fully “stopped” and I have to click “Play” to get it to start streaming again (this is true on all 3). It could be that all 3 are using the same base code core which has some issue with the S6, I don’t know. However, here’s the key: all 3 work nearly flawlessly on my old S4, so it does seem to be an issue with the S6 specifically (I don’t have an S5 or S7, so I can’t verify whether or not the same exists on those). I don’t know if you can help, but you seem to be hugely knowledgeable about Android, so I’m hopeful. Do you have any contacts with Samsung or Google engineers? Maybe if they knew about this issue they could figure something out? I have tried all the things you’ve mentioned: clearing cache/data, reinstalling the apps, full shut down, wait, and reboot, etc. I think the key is that they all work fine on the S4, but not on the S6. Plus, the problem does seem to be compounded by device movement. Perhaps there’s some unintentional accelerometer interaction in the code? Do you know of any way to turn off accelerometer interaction with a specific app (or in general) so I could test this theory? You seem to be able to disable pretty much everything else except device movement reaction. Thanks for any help
Solution: Have you tried checking if the issue is caused by the Wi-Fi turning off when the phone sleeps?
- Swipe down from the top of the screen
- Tap and hold on the Wi-Fi icon
- Tap More
- Tap Advanced
- Tap Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep
In case the Wi-Fi is on even when the phone sleeps and the issue still remains then I suggest that you update your phone software to Android Nougat.
S6 No Sound Notifications
Problem: Android Nougat in Samsung Galaxy S6 here, a few days ago I wanted to change my notifications sounds and since has been stuck in silence. Text messages and Facebook messenger notifications do have a sound. Everything else like Gmail and other message services are muted. Tried using the default Android sounds, restarting the phone, and checking if said apps notifications were on.
Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to check the notification sound settings of the phone. Tap Settings > Sounds and vibration > Notification sounds and configure the following options:
- Default notification sound: Set the default sound for notifications.
- Messages notifications: Set the default sound for new messages.
- Calendar notifications: Set the default sound for calendar events.
- Email notifications: Set the default sound for new email.
You should also make sure that the phone is not muted. Go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Sound mode then choose this option (Sound: Your phone uses the sounds, vibrations, and volume levels you have chosen in Sound settings for notifications and alerts.)
Make sure that the Do Not Disturb feature of the phone is disabled. Tap Settings > Sounds and vibration > Do not disturb then make sure that it is off.
In case the issue persists then perform the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- If the problem occurs in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
