Problem 1: Galaxy S6 camera failed error, camera won’t load

Hi all. Whenever I try to open the camera app I receive an error message (Camera Failed). I tried everything to fix this issue with my device, Force stop & clearing Data Wipe cache partition Factory reset Samsung original system re-flash But nothing fixed this issue. So would you please help me with getting a solution. The phone has no warranty because the screen is cracked. Thanks. — Khaldoun AlGhatrif

Solution: Hi Khaldoun. We hate to tell you this but there’s only so much that you can do in this case. App troubleshooting in Android are limited to the ones you’ve already tried so you can assume that you have a bad hardware at hand. If factory reset failed to resolve the issue, then the camera assembly may have been damaged after you dropped or physically impacted the phone (which also cracked the screen). Like water damage, unnecessary shock or trauma in your device can damage hardware components for good. In this case you need to let a professional check the hardware so you’ll know if the issue is fixable or not. At minimum, you’ll end up with a camera replacement in this one.

If you intend on fixing the camera yourself, we suggest that you visit other websites  that can give you step-by-step instructions. iFixit is a good site to start. Do-it-yourself repairs are risky, especially if you are a first timer. Be sure that you have the right tools, replacement parts, and basic electronics knowledge before doing it.

Problem 2: Facebook app very slow when S6 is not connected to charger

I am having issues with Facebook app. It is very, very slow when it works at all. It works fine when it’s plugged into the charger but doesn’t if it’s not. I have tried disabling and enabling and changing password. I have rebooted.

Also, my charge is going down very quickly which was not happening before the Facebook app problem. — Letha

Solution: Hi Letha. The first troubleshooting step that you want to try is wipe the cache partition. This will lessen the chances of a corrupted system cache causing trouble. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If wiping the cache partition won’t result to a fix, you must then ensure that your operating system and apps are all updated. To check if Android is updated, go to Settings>Software update.

  1. To update all your apps, try the following:
  2. Open Play Store app.
  3. Tap Options (three horizontal lines in the top left).
  4. Tap My apps & games.
  5. Tap UPDATE ALL.

Since you appear to have a battery issue too, you want to also ensure that the battery is recalibrated. Sometimes, Android loses track of actual battery levels so you can retrain it by doing the following:

  1. Use the phone by playing games or doing tasks to hasten power discharge, until the phone turns itself off.
  2. Charge the phone without turning it back on.
  3. Wait until the battery says it is fully charged to 100%.
  4. Wait for an hour before unplugging the phone from the charger.
  5. Use the phone until battery reaches 0% percent. The phone should turn off by itself.
  6. Recharge the phone to 100%, wait for an hour before unplugging it again.
  7. The battery should now be recalibrated. Observe how phone works.

Finally, if all the steps above won’t change anything, do not hesitate to factory reset your device. This will ensure that you return all software settings to their known, working defaults.

  1. Create a backup of your important files such as photos, videos, contacts etc. You can use Smart Switch for this task.
  2. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  4. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  5. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  6. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  7. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  8. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
  9. Reinstall Facebook app and see how it works. Make sure not to install other apps at this point.

If Facebook app works fine after a factory reset but returns to being problematic after installing the rest of your apps later, that means that it’s not a Facebook issue at all. Use elimination method to identify which among your apps is causing the problem.

However, if Facebook app continue to show the same problem after a factory reset even when there are no other apps, it may be an isolated case. Contact Facebook support for help.

Problem 3: Galaxy S6 Google contacts notes field character limit

All of my contacts are synced with Google. One of my contacts has a lot of information in the notes section. All of the information does not show when I open the contact. I did not have this problem on my Galaxy S4. I’ve even tried opening the “edit” option to see if all the information will show and it doesn’t. It only shows about a third of the information. Thoughts? — Pat

Solution: Hi Pat. We tried to replicate the issue in our end and we can confirm that Google Contacts Notes field is limited to 1000 characters only. Again, it’s characters NOT words so that’s a very limited option. This is true for at least 4 devices we’ve checked so far (S5, S6, S7, and S8). We don’t use a third party app of this type so we can’t give any specific app that you can try. Try to visit Google Play Store and see if you can find an alternate contacts app that will allow you to store longer notes for each contact.

Problem 4: Recover files after Galaxy S6 was accidentally wiped, apps missing after factory reset

I am using Samsung S4 and S6 edge. I have the same Google ID on both phone. My S6 edge was showing red line on top of the display screen. It was under warranty. Vodacom fixed it for me but he wiped my phone. All contacts, image, apps, videos, music everything. Now how can i get all my stuff back? Solution: Hi Tarif_malek786. Unless all those missing stuff (photos, videos, contacts, and music) were copied to another device or to a cloud server before a phone wipe was done, you really don’t have a way to recover them. If by “wiped my phone” you mean a factory reset, then those files are gone at this time.

If you set your phone before the factory reset to automatically sync to Google or Samsung, there’s a chance that those files may be copied to any of them. Try to log in to your Samsung and Google Drive accounts and see if that’s the case. Otherwise, you’re out of luck; there’s just no way to get them back.

To prevent losing important files in the future, make it a habit to regularly create a copy of them in a second device. If your phone regularly connects to a wifi network, you can take advantage of allowing it to sync to any cloud service so you have a copy of your files all the time. Keep in mind that smartphones or storage media can fail anytime. Don’t assume that your smartphone, computer, flash drive, or hard drive can run normally all the time. It’s a surefire way of losing precious digital memories should something untoward happens.

Your list of apps should still be in your Google Play Store app. Just sign back in and see the list. However, local app information like game progress for a particular app, or any app-specific information that’s only stored in the phone locally are already gone. Unless those information were stored by the app server itself, there’s also no way to recover them as well.

Problem 5: Galaxy S6 screen grid option in Home screen is missing

My husband’s Samsung Galaxy S6 does not have the Screen Grid option. (If you hold your finger on the Home screen in a blank spot, the Screen Grid option should appear in the lower right corner.) Instead, his has Settings instead of Screen Grid in the lower right corner. I have the exact same phone, and I have Screen Grid option, so we do know where it SHOULD be. — Coleen

Solution: Hi Coleen. If your husband’s phone uses a third party launcher, screen grid option may be disabled to give way to customizations being offered by the said launcher. The phone must use TouchWiz home as launcher in order to get screen grid option back. To check, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps or Applications.
  3. Tap More options (three-dot icon) at the upper right hand side.
  4. Tap Default apps.
  5. Make sure that Home screen says TouchWiz home.

Problem 1: Galaxy S6 edge won’t open links in SMS

Hello. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and only in the last few days I’ve had trouble opening links. When I tap the link in a text message, my phone goes to a new browser and presents me with a blank page. Once I close out of the blank page, the page shows up properly for a moment or two. Just enough for me to see some colors of what should have been presented. Can you help me please? :O        Tayler Lee

Solution: Hi Tayler. There may be a bug in your messaging app and/or browser so make sure that you wipe their cache and data first. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
  2. Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
  3. Once in there, click on an application.
  4. You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more.
  5. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
  6. You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application.

Try another browser

If you’ve deleted the cache and data of apps involved and the problem remains, you must use a different browser. This will allow you to determine whether the current browser is the source of the issue. For example, if you’re using the native internet browser, try switching to another one like Google Chrome for Android or Mozilla Firefox for Android.

Once you’ve installed another browser, make sure that you set it as the default browser. To do that:

  1. Tap Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps or Applications.
  3. Tap Default applications.

Install  Android and app updates

Installing updates can sometimes fix issues. Make sure that you run the latest Android version (Android Nougat) and that apps are all updated.

Problem 2: Galaxy S6 email app keeps getting error Yahoo incoming pop server disconnected

Hi. Got Samsung Galaxy S6. Inbuilt email app is playing up. Sync of incoming email works. Sending works. However intermittently server error received connecting to Yahoo incoming pop server when MORE is clicked inside message where full message not dowbloaded by sync. When I used to have S4 I had no issues with this. But with S6 I have. I have 3G/4G data signal ok. Other apps connect to internet fine. Can you help? — Richard

Solution: Hi Richard. There are two possible reasons for this. One is a problem with your device, which can be an email app bug, and the second is an issue with the internet service provider (Yahoo).

To fix a possible app bug, make sure that you wipe the cache and data of the email app first. If the issue continues, try using another email app or Yahoo’s own email app from Play Store.

Should using a different email app won’t fix the issue at all, you can do a factory reset by doing the steps below:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Find and tap the Settings icon.
  3. Under the ‘Personal’ section, find and tap Backup and reset.
  4. Tap Factory data reset.
  5. Touch Reset device to proceed with the reset.
  6. Depending on the security lock you used, enter the PIN or password.
  7. Tap Continue.
  8. Touch Delete all to confirm your action.

Once the phone has been reset, do the initial setup and see if the problem continues.    Make sure not to install anything in case this problem is due to a third party app. If the issue is still there after, contact Yahoo for support.

Problem 3: Galaxy S6 can’t log into game apps

I have two games that won’t let me log into them, on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Android! When I try to log into them it tells me “Reload”! Vegas Downtown Slots and Goldfish Casino! This has been going on for two days! any help in this matter would be appreciated! — Robin Burgess

Solution: Hi Robin. If you were able to log into these apps before, there may be an issue with your account or with the app’s log in mechanism. Make sure that you contact the developer for more assistance.

On the other hand, if it’s your first time to try to log in to them, you may need to create an account first. If you’ve already tried that, delete the apps from your phone, then install them back. If the problem is still there, there’s nothing anyone can do to help you. Contact the developer and let them troubleshoot the issue.

Problem 4: Galaxy S6 can’t sync Hotmail emails

Hi there! I’m having trouble with my S6 edge. I’m not too sure if it’s from a software update — my email won’t sync to my phone. Everytime I try to sign into my Hotmail account in the email app all I get is a loading bar & a “checking incoming server setting” wording. My Internet connection is fine and I’ve even tried data. Any suggestions helps! Thank you! — Jenn

Solution: Hi Jenn. This can be a configuration bug that hasn’t been fixed by Microsoft. So far, the only effective solution that we’ve discovered for this issue is by turning off all security features in your Hotmail or Microsoft account before adding it in an email app. If you have a computer, try to sign in to your Hotmail account and disable all security features like 2-step verification or similar. Once you’ve done that, add your account in your phone. You should then be able to sign in and sync emails. After that, go back to your computer and re-enable the security features you’ve previously disabled in your Hotmail account.

Problem 5: Galaxy S6 front camera won’t work, camera failed error

The regular camera works fine when you troubleshoot it, by force stopping the app, or settings reset. but once the camera is working and you turn it to the front/selfie camara it goes black and won’t work again stating “WARNING camera failed” error. I keep troubleshooting it but My gs6 edge is doing that every time I try to use the front camera. — Victoria

Solution: Hi Victoria. Try doing a full factory reset and see what happens from there. If the problem is due to an operating system bug, a factory reset should be able to fix the problem easily. However, if the issue is due to a hardware fault like a display chip issue or a broken front camera, factory reset won’t do anything at all. In this case, you want to send the phone in so Samsung can repair or replace it.

Problem 6: Galaxy S6 apps open by themselves, screen keeps flashing for no reason

My apps are going crazy. It says it doesn’t support split screen, then flashes all the open apps, closes some, opens other and does this all while flashing like crazy. Since you don’t have the ability on this form for attachments I cannot send along the video of the issue, but will send it separately. — Holly

Solution: Hi Holly. If the phone seems to be opening apps randomly by itself, that may signal a screen problem. Try to see if you can fix with a full factory reset via Recovery mode. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.

If the problem continues to behave erratically after a full factory wipe, the screen assembly may be broken. Usually, this is caused by a bad digitizer or faulty flex cable. Contact Samsung so they can repair the phone. Otherwise, bring it to a local service center.

Problem 7: Galaxy S6 can’t clear cache and data of apps

Cannot find any menu in application manager>all apps, to clear the cache of clear the app data. I followed your directions. When I click on the app in settings as you directed, it only says ‘uninstall’ or ‘force stop’ Thanks for any help. — Carolyn

Solution: Hi Carolyn. If you are running Android Marshmallow or Nougat, the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons should be under Storage section.

Below are the complete steps:
