Problem 1: Galaxy S6 edge won’t connect to network after an update
I recently got an S6 edge and all was working fine. Then after I updated the Android version to 6.0.1, I can’t connect to the mobile network. I can make calls and send texts but there is not even a symbol (ex. 4G) above the signal symbol. I’ve tried multiple fixes and a factory reset but none have worked. There’s is nothing wrong with my SIM card either and I don’t necessarily want to reverse the Android version since I don’t want to brick it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! — Williamwikmann
Solution: Hi Williamwikmann. Updates can sometimes lead to problems for a number of reasons and one of them, although it’s rare, can be a corrupted modem firmware. Your phone’s networking function is managed by the modem, which has its own operating system called baseband. Like Android operating system, baseband also needs update from time to time and sometimes, it can get messy as well. Baseband updates are rolled out by the modem manufacturer, not by your carrier or Samsung, though they are usually pre-packaged with major Android updates. There’s no telling what the real issue is with the phone right now but it’s possible that it’s baseband-related. We assume you updated Android officially (via OTA update or Samsung Smart Switch), but if you didn’t, the only option for you is by reverting to the previous OS version.
Alternatively, you can also try to see if you can find any good tutorials in the web that can walk you through the steps on how to update the baseband manually. Like flashing the bootloader/firmware, the steps in updating the particular phone’s baseband is unique to a specific model. Try to ask help from forums that support Android modding and flashing like XDA-Developers so you can get first hand information from folks who may have tried the steps you need to do.
And just to be sure, contact your carrier for any support, especially if you downloaded the update they rolled out. There’s a chance that the update may be buggy and if there’s enough number of users like you reporting the trouble, they may take a look at the possible coding problem.
Problem 2: Galaxy S6 not working with in-vehicle Bluetooth system, won’t read SMS out loud
Just purchased a Samsung S6. We have a 2013 Ford Edge. It connects with Bluetooth and will answer phone calls but when I try to turn on my text messages (so it can read them out loud) it says “unsupported.”Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks so much!!! — Cammy
Solution: Hi Cammy. The most probable reason for the problem is incompatibility. The error message you’re getting can be an indicator that your car’s Bluetooth system does not support a particular profile being used by your S6 or vice versa. Keep in mind that Bluetooth functionality and/or compatibility is NOT the same for all devices. Each of the device in a pairing must have all functionalities as the other one in order to prevent problems. As far as we know, a typical Galaxy S6 supports at least 15 profiles as listed below:
- Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
- Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
- Device Identification Profile (DI)
- Generic Audio/Video Distribution Profile (GAVDP)
- Generic Object Exchange Profile (GOEP)
- Hands-Free Profile (HFP)
- Human Interface Device Profile (HID)
- HID Over GATT Profile (HOGP)
- Headset Profile (HSP)
- Message Access Profile (MAP)
- Object Exchange Profile (OBEX)
- Object Push Profile (OPP)
- Personal Area Networking Profile (PAN)
- Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP)
- Service Discovery Application Profile (SDAP)
If you want another Bluetooth device, like your in-vehicle’s Bluetooth system, do the function you’re missin, it must have all or the particular profile necessary to access your phone’s SMS and read them out. The same is true for your S6 — this profile must be in it, in order to work with your in-vehicle’s bluetooth. Keep in mind that the absence of one profile does not render both devices as totally incompatible. Other functionalities should still work as long as both devices have the required profiles.
To fix your issue, we suggest that you do some research about your car’s Bluetooth system and see if there’s a compatibility issue with a Galaxy S6. if possible, try to talk to your car manufacturer and see if they can provide you with a list of profiles. That way, you can then compare it with the list of profiles we have for you above.
Checking Bluetooth profiles is only one of the possible reasons why your problem occurs. There are other factors that might be at play in this situation including Bluetooth protocols in use, Bluetooth version, quality of the Bluetooth transmitter, etc.
To fix compatibility issues, you must isolate possible factors so you’ll know where the problem lies. The most effective way to do this is by using the process of elimination by changing an aspect at a time. For example, if all the required profiles to make the missing functionality in both devices are met, you can then proceed to checking other factors by, say, updating to the latest version. Or you can try to connect your S6 to another in-vehicle system and test if the functionality you want is working. That way you can determine if it’s a phone issue or not.
In some cases, updating a Bluetooth system can fix problems. Make sure that you install the latest operating system updates for both your phone and your car’s bluetooth system.

Problem 3: Galaxy S6 won’t connect to wifi networks
Hi. I’ve got a Samsung Galaxy S6 that has otherwise has no problems connecting to wifi until yesterday. All other devices will connect, even my husband’s phone which is the exact same. I’ve restarted the phone, restarted the router, put it in safe mode, tried to connect via static IP but nothing works. The router is old, doesn’t have a reset or WAP button. I’ve even tried going into the IP address settings and nothing works. When I reset my phone, WIFI connects for a minute, then disconnects. All other times, it’ll disconnect right after saying its connected, within a second. Nothing is working, so you can imagine my frustration. The signal is good and like I said, my phone is the only device not working. I am at the end of my rope and cannot think of anything else to do to solve the problem. Last night it connected to a different WIFI but was having the same issues with a third I tried. I have a feeling it’s my phone that is the problem, but my husband and I got ours at the same time so they’re the same age and model but his is working fine. Help a girl out? — Robyn
Solution: Hi Robyn. Unless your S6 has the same exact apps, same exact software version, and same exact software environment in general, there’s really no point in comparing your device to that of your husband in this context. There may be a unique bug, update, app, or service that causes your phone’s wifi to fail. Since the problem also occurs when you connect it to a different wifi network, you can bet it’s a phone problem. You must do some basic software troubleshooting to fix the problem (if it’s fixable at all).
The first thing that you want to do is to ensure that your phone runs that latest Android update. As mentioned above, modem operating system (baseband) can sometimes become problematic and updating it may be an easy fix. If your phone is already running the latest Android version from your carrier at this time, make sure that you also update all your apps. This is to minimize problems due to app incompatibility.
If installing updates won’t fix the problem, you can then wipe the phone by doing a factory reset. This will ensure that you return all software settings back to their known working defaults. Here’s how to do that:
- Create a backup of your important files such as photos, videos, contacts etc. You can use Smart Switch for this task.
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
If a factory reset won’t fix the problem at all, consider sending the phone in so it can be repaired or replaced.
