When your phone battery runs low the first thing that you will probably do is to look for the charger and charge the device. S5 Will Not Recognize Charger

Problem: My phone will not recognize its charger at all when it is on. I have tried multiple cords and charging boxes. When it is turned off it will start to charge and show the battery picture for about 6 seconds then it goes away. It does this over and over again. It will eventually charge this way but obviously something went wrong. I have tried a soft reset and cleaning the charging port. What else can I do? Thanks

Solution: Since you have already tried using different cords and charging boxes then we can eliminate this as causing the problem. What you need to concentrate on this time is the phone software, battery, and the charging port. Follow the troubleshooting I’ve listed below.

  • Take out the phone battery. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute then reinsert the battery. This procedure discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Check if you are now able to charge your phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset do not install any app in your phone yet. Try to check first if the phone will charge.
  • Try using a new battery on your phone.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. It’s possible that there could be an issue with the charging port or with the power IC of your device.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: Help please!! I used the same charger all the time the all of the sudden last night it wouldn’t charge my phone. The message I get when I plug the charger in. “Unable to charge. Use original charger. The connected charger is incompatible with your phone. To prevent damage to your phone, charging has been stopped. To continue charging, use the original charger and cable that were provided for this phone.” It is the original charger.

Solution: There are two possible factors that could be causing this problem. First, it could be caused by the charger. Second, it could be caused by the phone. Follow our troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem. Move to the next step if issue still persists.

  • Try using a different charger. Make sure to use a different charging cord and charging block. If possible try to check this other charger with another device and see if it works.
  • Clean the charging port of your phone. Sometimes there could be some dirt or debris present in this port. This can often interfere with the charging process. To clean the charging port use a can of compressed air, a cotton bud dipped in alcohol, or blow on it using a straw.
  • Take out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then turn on your phone.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from recovery mode. This deletes the temporary data in your phone which could be causing the problem.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Not Charging With Particular USB Cable

Problem: Hi just curious I have a Samsung s5. I brought a new usb charger but the phone wont charge at all with the new cable in. I’ve checked and other usb cables are charging my phone perfectly. The reason I’m confused is because the new usb cable will charge another s5. Could software be preventing my phone from accepting the new usb cable or any other reasons as it works on another s5 with no problem. I use the official samsung plug thank you for your help.

Solution: This is indeed a strange issue since the new cable is recognized by another S5 but not on your device. It’s possible that the phone software is causing this issue. Try troubleshooting this issue by performing the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Check if the USB cable works.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Try to move or bend the USB cable while it is connected to the phone then check if it gets detected. If there are instances when it gets detected then the problem could be caused by a loose connection in the USB cable itself or the phone charging port.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: My phone won’t charge no matter the cord or wall outlet I use. When I plug in the USB cord it displays the empty battery with a thunderbolt sometimes, other times it doesn’t display anything at all. Very occasionally will it actually charge, and even then it’s just for a few minutes up to 1 or 2%, then cut out.

Solution: Try to perform the troubleshooting steps listed below to resolve this issue. Move to the next step if the current step fails to resolve the problem.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone. You can use a can of compressed air or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
  • Try using a different charger. Make sure to use a different USB cord and charging block.
  • Replace the battery with a new one.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the issue then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Does Not Turn On Or Charge

Problem: After heavy use of photo apps I attempted to install a spirit level app and phone reported lack of memory so skipped the install. Later phone was fine for texting and a call. A while after that pressing power did not light the screen. Pressing and holding power gives a flickering green LED but no wake up. Pressing and holding power and volume up produced flickering green LED but nothing else. Similarly holding power and down was no better. So I removed phone from case, pulled battery and memory card. Still no improvement, including simultaneous button holds. Tried charger, saw flickering green LED and phone and battery got hot quickly. Finally removed battery, held power for 1 min, inserted battery and played on charger. No green charging LED and no heat. Waiting 20 min before attempting next power up.

Solution: Try starting your phone in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone. If this does not resolve the issue then do a factory reset in this mode. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.

If your phone is unable to acces the recovery mode then I suggest you try getting a new battery.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail then bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Turns Off When Disconnected From Charger

Problem: My phone turns off within seconds of taking it off charge. When I do take it off it vibrates, the logo screen comes on, it vibrates again, and repeats. the only way to use my phone is while it is on charge. I’m willing to do anything, but factory reset. I would really need the help. Thank you

Solution: It’s very likely that the problem is caused by a weak battery. Try getting a new battery and see if this fixes the problem.

S5 Erratic Charging

Problem: When you plug in the charger it will charge on and off and will drain very quickly. When it is not plugged in it will say its charging on and off.

Solution: In most cases like this the problem is usually caused by a defective charging port. You should however check first if the phone software is causing this by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. If the issue still remains after this then bring your phone to an authorized service center and have your phone checked.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Not Switch On After Charging Issue & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 is one of the older generation mobile devices that is still being widely used today. First released in 2014 as a flagship device, this phone was one of the top smartphone models of that year. Today, a lot of people are using this phone as their primary device without any problems. Sometimes though, certain issues can occur on this particular model such as the one which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 will not switch on after charging issue & other related problems.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy S5  or any other Android device for that matter then feel free to contact us using this form. S5 Will Not Switch On After Charging

Problem: I downloaded a Samsung update overnight on the 7/2/17 with the charger plugged in but in the morning the phone was completely dead and will not switch back on or recognise the charger being re-inserted.

Solution: For this particular issue you should try taking out the battery  and the microSD card ( if one is installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Once this is done reinsert just the battery but don’t turn on the phone yet. What you need to do is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air making sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port gets removed. Try connecting the phone to a charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes. If you don’t get any charging indicator then check if the phone will charge from a computer USB port. If this doesn’t work try turning on your phone in recovery mode. In the event that the phone does turn on in recovery mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should try getting a new battery. This allows you to check if the battery is causing this problem. If the phone still doesn’t work then I recommend that you bring this to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Goes To Home Screen When Charger Is Plugged Or Unplugged.

Problem: Hi. I have a Samsung Galaxy s5. I use it A LOT, even while it’s charging. The problem is that if I plug or unplug it while I’m using it, it will closes out & goes to the home screen. I don’t see ANY charging settings (except for the LED). I’ve already tried taking the battery out AND have done a factory reset as well.

Solution: Since you have already performed a factory reset then it’s safe to assume that the problem isn’t caused by a glitch in the phone software. One possible factor that can cause this problem is that the plugging and unplugging of the charges causes some form of static electricity which in turn leads to this issue. Try using a different charger and charging cord then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Use Original Charger To Charge Faster Error

Problem: I plug my phone in with the charger that came on the package but when i plug it in it says “the phone might take longer to charge use the charger that came with it to charge faster” but i am using the same cord

Solution: Sometimes even when you use the orignal charger that came with your phone you will still be getting this error message. Listed below are some of the troubleshooting steps that you should perform to fix this issue.

  • Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port gets removed.
  • Try using a different charging cord. The cord that you are currently using might already be defective which is why this issue is happening.
  • Try using a different wall charger.
  • Try replacing your battery with a new one.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: So my samsung s5 will not charge. The charge light flickers on and off and has been plugged in all night with only 27 percent being charged.  I notice yesterday that a per saving notice/app thing came up and I pressed ok and did nothing else.  Could that have anything to do with it?  Everything I have read stated to do a factory reset, but what will I loose if I do that?  Any suggestions?

Solution: A factory reset should be your last option as this will erase everything in your phone. Take note that if you proceed with this step you will need to backup your phone data first.

Listed below are the steps that you need to perform to fix this problem.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air making sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in it.
  • Connect your phone to its charger. Try moving the charging cord connector on the phone side. Does the charging connect and disconnect? If it does then there’s a loose connection somewhere. Try using a different charging cord and of this fails try using a different wall charger. If the issue remains then your phone might have a damaged charging port. You will have to bring the phone to a service center if this is the case. Proceed to the next step if the charging does not disconnect and connect repeatedly.
  • Try replacing the phone battery.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Only Recognizes Original Charging Cord And Charger

Problem: Hi, I am using a Galaxy S5 and suddenly it will only recognize the Samsung charger cord and power block. It doesn’t recognize my portable power pack or any other cables, which is an issue as I use the device a lot. I haven’t dropped it recently and have tried cleaning out the port with compressed air. Thanks for your assistance I look forward to hearing from you.

Solution: Try using the original charging cord of your phone with the portable power pack. Does the issue still occur? If it does then try to connect a different power pack to your phone to check if the issue is caused by your power pack. If your phone does not recognize the power pack at all then there must be a problem with the slow charging pin of your charging port. To verify this further check if your phone can charge from your computer USB port. If it can’t then you will need to bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Does Not Turn On No Response To Charging

Problem: Phone battery was running low so I plugged in an external charger. Straight away the phone turned off, wont turn back on. Still wont turn on with spare battery either. Plugged it into the wall charger when I got home and same story. It’s completely unresponsive, and I’ve only had this phone for 3 weeks

Solution: It looks like some internal component of the phone got damaged, possibly the power IC or the battery might be defective. You will need to have this checked at a service center.

S5 Charges Only From Computer

Problem: Hey Droidguy,  I have been through all your suggestions on the web page.  My phone has a different issue, not listed. The phone will only charge with the original cable that it came with, but only from my computer.  Won’t charge from the wall plug in or other cables or car cable or other wall units with original cable, only from the computer.  Thoughts? remedies? This is the 4th S5 I have had, all had charging issues at one point or another. Oh the battery in it is a Samsung and is fairly new.

Solution: Have you tried cleaning the charging port of your phone making sure that any dirt or debris is removed? If you have already performed this then the problem could be caused by a damaged charging port pin that’s responsible for the fast charging function of the phone. You need to have this checked at a service center.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Refuses To Start Up Issue & Other Related Problems

Most people want a powerful smartphone that has a user removable battery. This is actually advantageous since the battery can be easily replaced without going to a service center should anything go wrong with it. This is also one of the main features of the #Samsung #Galaxy #S5. This former flagship model which was released in 2014 is still being widely used today owing to the fact that it is still getting constant software updates and it has decent hardware specs. Although this is being used as a dependable daily driver there are instances when certain issues can occur on the device. This is what we will tackle today as we address the Galaxy S5 refuses to start up issue & other related problems.

S5 Refuses To Start Up

Problem: Good day I have tried all of your techniques but my Samsung Galaxy S5 refuses to start up. The ‘Samsung Galaxy S5 powered by android’ logo appears, the screen flashes grey then it goes black, it then vibrates as if it’s starting up then the whole process begins again. I left it while it was doing this for 10 minutes and it turned off completely and won’t show any signs of life until you plug in a charger, it is also extremely warm. I have had this phone for approximately 4 years now. It had a cracked screen a year ago that has been repaired. Do you have any suggestions that I could try?

Solution: Try checking first if the phone will compete the startup process while it is connected to its charger. If the phone starts this way then you might want to try replacing the battery first. If the problem persists then remove the battery and microSD card (if one is installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then go ahead and see if the phone will turn on.

If the problem still occurs then follow the steps listed below. Move to the next step should the problem still occur after performing a step.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. If you are able to access this mode then the issue could be caused by an app you recently downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode. Wipe the cache partition of your device.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode. Do a factory reset. Take note this will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then this might already be a hardware related issue. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S5 Working But Screen Not Turning On

Problem: I have dropped my phone a bit in the past and it was working until now. I’ve had it for a year and ab it. When i turn my brightness down the screen flickers multi colors and when i leave it to turn off it flickers as well and when i turn it off and on it does it. When i turn my phone on i can hear it vibrate and the lights come on but just not the screen. The screen is blank. I hear notifications come as well. All the lights work but the screen. I’ve done a factory restart in hope that it will work but it is still occurring. Please can you tell me how to solve this and what the problem is. Thank you

Solution: This problem could be caused by a defective phone display or a loose connection between the display and the motherboard of your phone. For this issue I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked. There’s a possibility that the display assembly will have to be replaced if it is found out to be defective already.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: Hi, my Samsung Galaxy S5 will not charge. I have tried a different charger, tried aligning the charging port on the phone, I have tried to see if it was an app with Safe Mode, I have also tried manually clearing my cache by pressing the power, volume, and home button all at the same time. I am at a loss and now my phone is completely dead. Please help!

Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris that’s stuck in this port as this can usually cause issues with charging. Once you have made sure that the charging port is clean you should also try charging the phone using a different charging port.

Should the issue remain unresolved I suspect that the charging IC of your phone might  be damaged. I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center that does board level repairs.

S5 Randomly Restarting

Problem: Hi, I am having issue with my Samsung Galaxy S5 randomly restarting. I have done troubleshooting by starting up in Safe Mode, and the problem still persist. I restore by doing factory reset and the problem still occurring. I am confuse as far as what causes this restarting dilemma. Please help I really need his phone to be working as this is my only way of communication and a gift from my brother. Thank you!

Solution: Since you already checked the software side it’s time to troubleshoot the hardware side. What you can do next is to try to replace the battery with a new one. This allows you to check if your old battery is already faulty and causing the problem. If the issue still occurs even after using a new battery then we might be looking at a hardware component inside the phone that is failing to work. If this is the case then I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S5 Not Booting Up Solution

Problem: Hello Guys, Kudos for the great work so far. i am not here to ask a question but to add how i solved mine after the help here did not apply to my issue. Samsung Galaxy s5 had boot up issues. No response at all. however, when a charger was connected, the battery icon would flash briefly then be gone for a while, pop up again like that on and on. I could boot to recovery and download mode initially. later, only download mode. This led me to believe it was a firmware problem as discharging, wiping cache and switching between 2 batteries being used  were to no avail. Almost flashed a stock ROM unto it but the loss of user data was a problem. I finally noticed that one of the batteries had a black scorch mark on the terminal. scrubbed it clean with a metal and did same for the the phone terminals too. That solved the problem!!!…. The same worked for the other battery. though it had no scorch mark, scrubbing the terminals made it power up the phone. So that’s a solution  i didnt see here. Hope it helps someone. All the best and thanks for your help.

Solution: Thanks for sharing this tip which can serve as a useful guide to our readers.

S5 Keeps Switching Off And On Repeatedly

Problem: HI My s5 keeps switching off and on repeated. I have left the battery out the phone overnight tried to wipe cache. It switches on shows me the Samsung screen shows me the service provider screen and again the Samsung screen black with little blue dots or strings. After this screen it switches off. Tried rebooting without my sd card and SIM card but still nothing.

Solution: Try starting the phone in Safe Mode. If you are able to access this mode then the problem could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the phone still switches off and on even in Safe Mode then follow the steps listed below. Check if the issue occurs after performing each step then move to the next if it does.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding.

S5 Randomly Turns Off

Problem: Good morning, My Android will randomly turn off on me, by having the screen go black. It will sometimes turn back on when I press the power button, if that doesn’t work, I have to pull that battery out and put it back in to get it to power up. When it does finally power up, the battery will say it’s critically low even though the battery life was much higher before the phone went dead. And when I plug it in to charge, the battery life will go up fairly quickly at first, then slow down to usual charging speed. This issue never happens when I am plugged into a charger the whole time. Just when I use it without being plugged in, and with multiple apps being used.

Solution: Try starting your phone in Safe Mode first then check if the issue still occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the problem occurs even in Safe Mode then proceed with doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete don’t install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the problem still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the issue then you can do the following steps listed below.

  • If your phone has a microSD card try removing this as this could be causing the problem.
  • Try using a new battery.

S5 Copy Data From Water Damaged Phone

Problem: Hello. I stupidly took my Galaxy S5 into the pool with me and so caused some water damage (okay, destroyed the phone). I’m getting the phone replaced and all, but I’m sad to say that I had weeks of game progress saved on the phone with no cloud backup! Is there a way I or a proper technician would be able to remove the flash drive and copy the data?

Solution: The contents stored in the internal storage of your phone are protected which means that the phone has to be turned on first before you can retrieve the data. Removing the on board storage of the phone is a risky process and you won’t be able to copy the data stored in it. You might have luck having your phone checked at a service center capable of doing board level repairs.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: The phone will not charge and the battery sign shows up with a caution symbol over it. I believe the charger I used may have been damp and caused an issue but I am not sure where to go from here. The phone was still working completely fine until it ran out of battery.

Solution: The caution symbol over the battery means that it is not communicating with your phone. There are various reasons why this can occur on a device which we will tackle below. Perform the troubleshooting steps listed below, move to the next step if the current step fails to resolve the issue.

  • Take out the battery from the phone. Clean the battery contacts using an eraser. Do the same with the battery pins of the phone. Take care not to bend the pins. You should also clean the phone charging port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Reinsert the battery then check if the issue still occurs.
  • Check the battery if it is water damaged. To do this just look at the sticker located on the metal contact side. This sticker should be white. If it is red, pink or purple then the battery is water damaged. If this is the case you need to replace the battery.
  • Try using a different battery.
  • Try using a different charger.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

S5 Does Not Charge

Problem: Hi,  over the past few weeks I noticed my phone was getting really hot and glitching/being slow. The other day I tried charging my phone and saw that it wouldn’t charge or show any signs that it was connected to a charger. My battery died eventually. There’s no water damage according to the sticker. My friend has the same phone so I borrowed her battery and my phone was working fine. She put my battery in her phone and charged it up just fine. Then she tried using her charger to charge my phone and it wouldn’t work. So I think the battery is fine. I’ve tried putting in recovery mode but the process won’t work at all. (Volume + button, home, and power)

Solution: The issue could be with the charging port of your phone. Turn off the phone and take out the battery. Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. This will take out any dirt or debris which could be present in the port and could be causing the problem. Try to check if the phone will charge.

If the issue still persist then the next step is to check if the phone software is causing this problem. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check if you are able to charge the phone.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem the this could already be caused by a defective charging port or a faulty power IC. I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Is Dead Does Not Charge

Problem: The phone is dead with no signs of charging. I suspect this is because overnight I plugged it into a non-USB 3 receptacle (the thing with the actual electrical prongs you plug the USB into). I didn’t look to see if it was charging. In any case, I cannot charge it even now using different sources. This is the first real trouble I’ve had with this phone in two years.

Solution: Try using a different battery on your phone. This way you eliminate the possibility that the battery is causing the problem. If the issue still remains even with the new battery then try to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol then connect the wall charger and charge the phone for at least 20 minutes before turning on the device.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue then have the phone checked at an authorized service center as this may already be a hardware related issue.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: my phone worked well… until this other day, when I took it out and saw the words “Downloading… do not turn off target” panicked by the heading i removed the battery since i wasn’t familiar with whatever that was happening…  ever since that moment,.. no matter where/how i plugged in my phone, it just wouldn’t charge… any help in solving this issue would be much appreciated.

Solution: When you see the “Downloading.. Do not turn off target”  message in your device it is getting software updates. Since this got interrupted then issue such as this could happen. What you want to do right now is to take out the battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then check if you are able to charge the phone.

If you are still unable to charge the phone then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the step you performed does not solve the issue.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. What you want to do is to take out any dirt or debris that may be present in the port which could be causing the issue.
  • Try charging your phone using a different charging cord.
  • Try charging the phone using a different wall charger.
  • Replace your phone battery.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs after performing the steps above then you should have you phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Charged Overnight Does Not Turn On

Problem: Hi, I charged my Samsung S5 G900F overnight , the next when I wanted to power on it has no respond and won’t turn on . Have tried to remove battery and performed hard reset but it failed. I noticed the phone is very warm when the battery is placed inside. Please help . Many Thanks.

Solution: Try taking out the battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This action discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then try to turn on the phone.

If the phone does not turn on then try using a new battery.

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue I suggest you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Stuck In Boot Loop Unless Connected To Charger

Problem: Okay, so my galaxy s5 continues  to reboot it’s starts up says Samsung galaxy s5 and the turns off and does it again,  now the reason why  I can’t find an answer on any forums  is that it does not turn off or reboot if it is plugged in and charging. There are no charging issues, it charges perfectly. But if it was a hardware issue I think it would still do it when it was charging. If you could help me solve my issue I’d really appreciate  it.

Solution: There are two things that you need to do to resolve this issue. The first step that you should do is to get a new battery and see if this fixes the problem. Sometimes if the battery is not providing the correct power to the phone issues such as this can occur which is what we want to check. If the problem still remains even with a new battery then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Refuses To Charge Issue & Other Related Problems

While #Samsung is having a huge success with their latest flagship model there are still a lot of people quite content with the two year old #Galaxy #S5 that they have. This former flagship model is already showing signs of age as it can’t compete in performance with the current high end models however it is still a solid device that is reliable as a daily driver. There are however instances when issues can occur in this phone which we will be discussing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 refuses to charge issue & other related problems.

S5 Refuses To Charge

Problem: So, recently my phone has been refusing to charge properly. It charges for a couple of seconds, but then it stops. Rinse and repeat. I’ve tried moving the charger/wire around, but that didn’t do much to fix the problem. Also, I’m using the original charger that I got with the phone.

Solution: For intermittent charging issues the problem is usually hardware related. The trick is finding out which particular hardware part is causing the issue. Below are the recommended troubleshooting steps that you need to do to fix this problem. Move to the next step if the issue persists.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Make sure to take out any dirt or debris that may be present since this will interfere with the charging process.
  • Try to use a different charging cord when charging your device.
  • Try to use a different wall charger.
  • Use a different battery in your phone then check if it charges.

If the issue still persists at this point then you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will eliminate the possibility of a software problem causing this issue. If the problem remains after the reset then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked. Some possible factors that could be causing this issue is a loose charging port or a faulty power IC.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: My phone will not charge when plugged in.  If the phone is turned off and plugged in, you can feel power “zapping” or surging through the usb cable.  The screen will show a line across the bottom of the screen that appears as you feel the power surge through the cable.

Solution: Try to eliminate the charger as a factor causing this problem first. Use a different charger with a different charging cord when charging your phone. If you still experience the same issue then proceed with cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. This will take out any dirt or debris that could be in the port. Try to charge your phone again.

One last troubleshooting step that you can do is to replace the phone battery with a new one as this could also be causing the problem. If the issue still persists then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Slow Charge After Getting Wet

Problem: Phone got wet, took cover off, battery out etc and dried off.  Phone still works.  Turned off due to low battery.  Attempted to charge following morning and phone would not charge (using original charger).  Submerged phone in bowl of rice for 24 hours in attempt to remove moisture.  Phone continues to display battery icon with lightning bolt every few seconds indicating no charge but when when left on charger for a couple hours then turned on it does show a minimal increase in battery life indicating a very slow charge.  Got as high as 23% so far.

Solution: If your phone got wet then there’s a possibility that some component inside your phone has been water damaged and is now causing this slow charging issue. Placing the phone in a bowl of rice is a smart move as this eliminates the moisture of the device. However, this won’t fix a damaged component. What you can do right now is to check if it’s the battery that got damaged by replacing it with a new one. If the issue still occurs even with a new battery installed then you will need to bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Goes Black When Bumped

Problem: If I bump my phone the screen goes black, when I try the power button or the screen button on the bottom it will light up on the page and return indicators but nothing shows up on the screen.  It won’t power up so I remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, replace the battery and then it allows me to power up again.  As long as I don’t bump the phone it works fine.

Solution: It looks like there is a loose connection inside your phone. One possible scenario is that the flex cable connecting the display to the main board may be loose. Another possible scenario is that the battery is not secured tightly in place so when you bump the device it loses contact with the phone. I would suggest that you have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Turns Off Randomly

Problem: My phone will turn off randomly but I have to take the battery out wait a bit then restart my phone everything it goes off. If I let my phone screen turn off I can’t get it to turn back on and have to go through the process of taking out the battery all over again.

Solution: The quickest way to resolve this issue is to first check if the phone software is causing the problem. To do this you need to backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. It’s recommended if you do the factory reset from the recovery mode.

If after the reset the issue still occurs then try using a new battery on your device.

If the problem still persists then you need to have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

S5 Boot Loop

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport. The phone was working perfectly fine one minute, then restarted itself. When trying to turn back on, it only goes to the first screen that says Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport powered by Android. After a couple seconds of showing this screen, the screen turns off again and the phone vibrates and shows the same screen again. Then back to a black screen and another vibration, to the same screen again. Nonstop. I tried wiping the cache and that didn’t work so I factory reset it. Still didn’t work.

Solution: This issue of the phone constantly restarting is usually referred to as a boot loop issue. Usually a factory reset will resolve this issue however in this case it seems like it doesn’t. Below are the additional troubleshooting steps that you need to do to resolve this issue. Move to the next step if the current step you performed fails to solve the problem.

  • Take out the battery and microSD card ( if your phone has one installed).  Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This action will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.
  • Connect the phone to its charger then turn it on. If the issue does not occur then you will need to replace the phone battery.

If the above steps fail to fix the issue then you should consider flashing your device with an updated firmware file. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

S5 Screen Goes Black Not Turning On

Problem: Hi there, I got a problem with SGS5. Often happens, that the screen goes black (OFF) and it doesn’t want to turn on. It looks like the phone is on, but I can’t see a thing. Then I have to take out the battery and leave it OFF for some time. Sometimes it takes up to an hour to turn on again. I bought the phone online and I don’t have any warranty on it. Is there something I can do to fix this? Or do I need to take it to repairs. Thanks.

Solution: You will need to check if the problem is software related. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. It’s better if you do the reset from the recovery mode. If this doesn’t resolve the issue then have your phone checked at an authorized service center.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Won’t Charge & Other Related Problems

The #Samsung Galaxy #S5 is a former flagship model that has several outstanding features. Released last 2014, this device is best known for using a wonderful display. One other feature that this model excels at is its battery life. Using a 2800 mAh battery this phone can easily provide 27 hours of 3G talk time, 9 hours of web browsing, or 11 hours of video playback on a single charge. Of course when the battery runs out there’s always the wall charger which charges the phone quickly.

Samsung Galaxy S5

There are however instances when charging this phone can become quite a problem. This is what we aim to resolve today as we troubleshoot the Galaxy S5 won’t charge issue & other related problems. While we have already discussed this problem extensively in our previous posts we would like to tackle the latest issues of this nature sent to us by our readers.

S5 Won’t Charge

Problem: My husband’s phone won’t charge all of a sudden we could charge it for a couple if days turned off then we starting getting the yellow  triangle and today it started all of a sudden turning on when we turn it off. Right now we both have the S5 active so we are swapping batteries. Then we got this we are screen of like a boot up. What could it mean no charger will work and it isn’t the battery

Solution: Here’s what you need to do to fix the problem. First, take out the battery of the phone as well as the microSD card if one is installed then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out the RAM. Next, inspect the charging port of the phone for any signs of dirt or debris. If necessary clean it using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Reinert just the battery then try to turn on your phone and charge it.

If your phone still does not charge then try using a different charging cord when charging your device. The charging cord you are using may already be damaged especially if it is constantly bent or coiled. If the issue persists then try charging the phone with a different wall charger as well.

If the phone still does not charge then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Will Not Charge

Problem: I just recently bought a new extended battery and charger it been working fine for the passed couple of days. But yesterday when I change and put the old battery back and now it wouldn’t charge for either one of the battery. I try to take the battery out and hold the power button for 1 min, and then 3 mins but it n still wouldn’t work. When I the phone power off with the charger plug in there is a white static line on the bottom screen it beep. But when I turned it on it still wouldn’t take charge. Please help. Thanks you.

Solution: The first thing you need to do is to check the charger port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. This interferes with the charging process and the presence of these foreign material may prevent your phone from charging. If necessary you should clean the charging port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

Next, try to replace the charging cord then check if the phone now charges. This cord easily breaks especially if it is constantly bent or coiled. Follow this up by replacing the wall charger if the phone still does not charge. Make sure to only use a Samsung charger or a charger that is certified to work with the S5.

If the problem still occurs then you need to get another battery and see if your phone charges with it.

If at this point the phone still does not charge then I suggest you bring it to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Doesn’t Appear to Charge

Problem: Hi my phone died last night. I simply just forgot to charge it. This morning when i plug it into any charger including the one it came with.  The green light blinking rapidly and nothing comes on the screen. The device won’t turn on!! Please help it doesn’t appear to be charging.

Solution: If the phone battery has been totally drained then it may take some time for the phone to respond after you connect the charger. Try to connect the phone to its wall charger for at least 20 minutes then check if it turns on.

If the phone still does not charge or turn on then disconnect it from the charger. Remove the battery and the microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges the phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone.

If the phone does not turn on then carefully inspect the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. If you see any then clean the port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol. Connect your phone to the wall charger and let it charge for another 20 minutes. Make sure to use a different charging cord when charging your phone as the one you are using may already be damaged. If the phone still does not charge then try using a different wall charger.

If the problem persists then try to get a new battery as the battery you are using may already be defective.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S5 Battery Drains Due To Unified_Daemon

Problem: Hi, I’m having an insane amount of battery drain with the unified_dameon. It started out of nowhere, and I’ve tried every solution I could find..I even resulted to a factory reset and it still came back. My battery goes down sooo  fast and even goes down sometimes while charging. Please help! I haven’t gotten any new apps so I can’t understand what caused this. I have gathered that it is somehow connected with mees, weather, ect..I’d rather not have that than deal with this issue and even when I turn it off it still runs. My preference would of course be to have a fully functional smartphone but that doesn’t seem to be much of an option at this point. If this can be fixed please let me know.

Solution: The Unified Daemon is a Samsung pre-installed app that unifies the information in your device such as that from the weather app, stock market, and news. This app runs in the background and will use your phone battery as well as data since it is in-charge of refreshing the information of the apps that depend on it. You can set the app to refresh at longer intervals by going to Setting > Data usage > Unified Daemon then have it update to every 12 hours. Alternatively, you can also disable this app even if your phone is not rooted. To do this just go to Settings – General tab – application manager – all apps – Unified Daemon – turn off.

S5 Does not Start After Software Update

Problem: Okey.. So 2 days ago (2015-12-11) there was an update on my phone. I installed it and everything. But the thing is; Now I can’t start the phone. The only thing that comes up is: The normal “Samsung Galaxy”. White text and black background. The thing what happens is. It comes up as normal, vibrates and then turn black. And after that screen shows up. Vibrates and then turn black. And it goes like that over and over and over again.. Ive read ALOT of your threads about peoples with the same issues. But nothing works.. literally nothing. I’ve tried to reboot it, and everything that you guys wrote on the site. NOTHING works. And this makes me really mad. I hope you can solve my problem. It would’ve be great. REMEBER: I Downloaded the latest update. And after that all this happened.

Solution: It appears that the update may have corrupted the phone software. If you have already performed most of the troubleshooting steps that we have suggested without any success  then the best way to resolve this issue is to flash your phone with its original firmware. You will need a copy of your phone firmware as well as the latest version of Odin installed in your computer. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
