S5 Freezing After Lollipop Update

Problem: Hi I’m Shannon. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. I have recently used the  software update on my phone. At first I kinda liked it but then my phone started running slow, it started freezing and then if I want to search for anything in Chrome or on the Internet it is challenging. I would really like to go back to the old version. I would more than appreciate it if you could help me get my phone back in the old version it was where I enjoyed it. Thanks and I hope you address this as soon as you can.

Solution: There is no official way of getting the old software of your phone back. It has to be done manually and you will some experience in flashing the phone software. What I recommend is that you try to work with the Lollipop update first. If your phone is running slow then try to update your phone apps first as they may be causing the issue. Once your phone apps are updated then the next step is to wipe the cache partition of your phone.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key
  • When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

If your phone is still freezing and running slow then I highly recommend doing a factory reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, Power key.
  • When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  • When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

S5 “Unfortunately, NetworkSystemProvider has stopped” Error

Problem: Hi, my name is Amber! Something is wrong with my connection to the network. I was playing on one of my apps and it said this and quote, “Unfortunately, NetworkSystemProvider has stopped.” What does that even mean? What do I have to do to fix it? Will the system reconnect by its self? And I know it’s not about the internet because my phone said my internet is connected. Please, help!

Solution: This issue may be caused by a corrupt temporary data. Wiping the cache partition of your phone usually helps in resolving the issue.

S5 Wi-Fi Takes Too Long to Turn On

Problem: Hi. I just got my phone (samsung galaxy s5) a few days ago and of course I did all the necessary things to do like signing up and etc. But when I turned off my wifi and turned it on again it would take so long to turn on or connect. When I tried to go to the wifi settings (by pressing and holding the wifi button), it would either wake so long to go to the wifi settings or it would go there but wouldn’t show anything. (Even if I tried to go the settings it wouldn’t even show anything until it would connect.) After maybe 30-50 sec it would normally go to the setting and connect to the wifi. I curently have the 5.0 lollipop. Any help would be appreciated.

Solution: Try to check if this issue occurs on any Wi-Fi network you try to connect to. If it occurs in only one particular Wi-Fi network then the problem may be with the wireless router.

If the problem occurs on any Wi-Fi network then try wiping the cache partition of your phone first.

If the issue persist then back up your phone data and perform a factory reset.

S5 Unfortunately, Samsung Accessory Service Has Stopped

Problem: I downloaded a system update the other day and now whenever I click a video or open an app, I get the error message “Unfortunately, Samsung Accessory Service has stopped. This also happens when I change the volume. The app market says my phone is not compatible with Samsung accessory service and I don’t have anything by that name on my phone. I tried resetting it and removing recently added apps, to no avail. This message pops up 2 or 3 times at a time. Thanks.

Solution: Do you have the Samsung Gear app installed in your phone? If you do try to disable this app then check if the issue occurs. If it doesn’t then you need to uninstall the updates to this app then update it again. If the issue still occurs even if the Samsung Gear app is disabled then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.

  • Clear the cache and data of the Samsung Accessory Service App from the application manager.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 TypeApp Mail Uses Too Much Storage Space

Problem: I noticed when I looked under my settings in management that TypeApp mail has half of a gigabyte in data stored on my phone. Is there some way I can send some of this to my SD card without losing my present emails? In other words I wouldn’t mind transferring over emails that are over two months old but not the ones that are presently of importance. Please help thank you

Solution: You can try to check if this is possible by going to the application manager of your device then clicking on TypeApp mail. If the option for “ move to SD card” is not greyed out then you will be able to free up some internal storage space by moving the data of the app to the microSD card.

S5 “unfortunately, clock has stopped” Error

Problem: Hello, I have a problem I hope can be fixed I have waited awhile for updates but none solve my problem. Ever since the recent android update my phone has changed, a bunch of my Widgets broke I fixed them but my clock app which is the one which comes with the phone and my “Sprint Zone” app which also comes with it are now completely broken. Every time I attempt to open the app it crashes with the message “unfortunately, clock has stopped.” And same with sprint zone. I hope I can hear back from you soon and can’t wait for a solution.

Solution: The first thing that you should do when you encounter any error that says “Unfortunately, (name of app) has stopped” the first thing that you should do is to clear the cache and data of that app.

  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to the All screen
  • Tap the Clock application
  • Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  • Tap Clear cache.

You should also perform this procedure for the Sprint Zone app.

If the issue persists then wipe the cache partition of your phone.

S5 Freezes When Using Snapchat

Problem: The other day, I was in Snapchat and my device froze. I waited for Snapchat to close and then closed all running applications and turned my phone off. The next day, the same thing happened. I tried to delete Snapchat, but it said I had no internet connection even though I had 5 bars. Again, I shut it down. Today, I turned my phone on and tried to delete Snapchat again. Again, it said I had no internet connection even though I had 5 bars. I turned my phone off. About 1 hour ago, I tried to turn my phone back on, but it froze while turning on. It’s been frozen for about 45 minutes. In the top left corner a blue light is glowing like it does when I turn my phone on, but my phone isn’t turning on. I tried hitting the power button again, I tried hitting the back button, and I tried just leaving it to load, but it’s still frozen. What do I do to fix this problem?

Solution: The Snapchat app itself may be corrupt already. You need to uninstall this app and install a fresh version from the Google Play Store. Since you are getting an error message when trying to uninstall the app you should try to start your phone in Safe Mode then uninstall the app from there.

To get to Safe Mode.

  • Turn the device off.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

From here you can proceed with uninstalling the Snapchat app.

  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  • If necessary, swipe right to the Downloaded screen.
  • Tap the desired application.
  • Tap Uninstall.
  • Tap OK.

S5 Contacts Not Responding After Update

Problem: Hi, I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S5 to Lollipop. After the update, my contacts is not responding and keeps on updating (please attached screenshot). I would like to ask on how to address this. Thanks

Solution: I can definitely say that this issue is not isolated to the S5 as it also occurs in my non-Samsung phone that is running on Lollipop. It appears to be a bug of the system software. What you can do right now is to restart your phone so that you will be able to access your contacts list.

You can also wipe the cache of the Contacts app as this has been known to resolve this error, although only temporarily.

  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  • Swipe left to the All screen
  • Tap the Clock application
  • Tap Clear cache.

S5 Can’t Access Apps While On Call

Problem: Hey Droid Guy, I have a Galaxy S5 with Verizon running Lollipop 5.0. Since upgrade I have not been able to access apps (like Calendar and Contacts) while on a call. The home button does not respond. What can I do?

Solution: Since this problem occurred after the software upgrade then I suggest you perform a factory reset. One of the reasons why this is happening is that there may be data from the old software version still left in your phone. This data which normally should have been removed during the update process is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. The best way to get rid of this old data is by performing a factory reset. Just make sure that you backup your data before proceeding.

S5 Google Play Store Randomly Opens App Download Page

Problem: Hi. My play store opens up randomly and it always goes to a app to download, it’s becoming very annoying now do you have any suggestions. Many thanks.

Solution: When does this issue occur? Does it occur randomly or does it happen when you are running a certain third party app?

If the Google Play Store opens when you are running an app then there is a big chance that app is causing the issue.  Try uninstalling the said app and check if the issue still persists.

If the issue occurs randomly then there’s a chance your phone may be infected with a malware. Back up your phone data and do a factory reset.

As a precautionary measure do not install apps coming from unknown sources. Always get your apps from the Google Play Store.

S5 Freezes On Facebook App

Problem:  I have a Samsung Galaxy S5, which has been freezes since the last update I installed.  Approximately 97% of the freezes occur when browsing Facebook, and it is the only app that I have to keep shutting down. I have already followed every instruction I could find, including updating apps and factory resetting the phone.  I’m just wondering if you have any suggestions?

Solution: Try to uninstall the Facebook app on your phone and see if the freezing issue still exists. If it doesn’t then this may be an app related issue. You may have to install the next version of the app that comes out to resolve this issue.
